Grand Canyon University [GCU] lack of communication

Unable to speak with financial aid office about MY financial aid. Gcu "counselor" was supposed to submit a form and failed to do so so my financial aid was never submitted. This is not the first time that this has occurred. Student "counselor" fails to perform tasks that I could easily do in a timely manner because I'm not allowed to call financial aid myself. Terrible system in place!

Grand Canyon University [GCU] course/ classes

Horrible experience here. I had an A in my grad course all the way up to the last week. I had exteneuating circumstances my counselor was informed about. I heard nothing back about a problem with grade until 2 weeks later. Prof stated they will let me turn in missed work but will deduct 50%. One of the verification form for the classes was not available on GCU website so I submitted a diff field experience verification form instead from GCU that was available, professor still failed me by .80 points because she did not want to include that verification I submitted as the original one was no longer available. School offers no support and are not helpful in situations such as this. DO NOT GO HERE. Mind you I am very capable of passing a class, how ONE week can cause a failing grade is insane to me. I understand a letter grade but to go from an A to an F is absurd.

The best part now they want me to pay expenses out of pocket, which no one can afford. This school purposely fails students in order to get them to pay the money.

Grand Canyon University [GCU] did not comply with key professional counseling laws and now I have lost 44 credits.

Before I started GCU I asked them if they were regional credit university with the state of KY for professional Cousneling, they said yes. I called KY professional Cousneling, in Frankfort and they also said yes. So I enrolled in the master degree program. 47 credits later I get a phone call from the school stating that they did not comply with the state of Kentucky and are no longer regional credit and my credits are no longer good. They told me I had to options. I could transfer to another university, or sign a wavier. Well I have contacted other universities, and the most any of them will accept is 12 credits after looking at my transcripts. Therefore I am stuck paying for classes and student loans that I can do nothing with. If I want to finish my masters degree in counseling I have to start all over. Therefore I have wasted thousands of student loans and two years of time. The school is in no way saying they are sorry or trying to fix the problem. Pretty much I am just out of luck.

Grand Canyon University [GCU] withdrawn status vs. loa

I am writing because I need help desperately. I had taken a leave of absence for six months because GCU said that was the only way I could change my major. I changed from special education to elementary education. Because of this change I am now being penalized to the tune of $8000.00. I am still in school and currently in my last class of student teaching. I was not told that this would turn into a direct loan. Arizona is in need of good teachers and I am a good teacher. My data is higher than that of my team. I have been teaching as a long term sub here in Coolidge for 3 years with employment at my school for a total of 6 years. I really need some help here. It is as simple as GCU changing what they have for my status of withdrawn to a LOA leave of absence. I do not have this kind of funding. GCU is expensive and the interest rate is already killing me financially. I am not happy as of now with GCU and how they refuse to work with me. It is an expensive college already. I am asking please help me or tell me who can. I need this status change or I will be forced to drop of completely ending my years with GCU. Any help would be appreciated. Lorrie Berns [protected]

Grand Canyon University [GCU] finical aid and class transcripts

On November 2017 I was taking a class and had to withdraw because of my deployment orders when the hurricanes we just had hit. ( Hurricane Irma, Harvey and Jose)
I submitted notification of my deployments and how long I would be gone after speaking to Ron who is supposed the supervisor of one of the student advisers he told me that I would not be penalized for the class and would not have to pay the money back. Later on in my intercommunication class I discovered that the instructors were not really instructors and I would get response coming from a student instead of the instructors. The class no clear instructions and so I spoke to Ron again and told him my concern about the teacher retaliation, I was not the only student complaining about the instructor. I also discovered that the school had been sued in the past before and other students had bad reviews. When I spoke to m counselor she gave me her supervisor who insulted and started to attack me verbally and told me that I would have to pay back money for a class that I was told I wold not have to pay back due to having to be deployed. She started to yell at me and also told me that the BBB was not real but fake. This was very unprofessional. As for my finical aid I stop getting it they would not send it to me and kept it. I am asking for my transcript and half of my money back for having to take classes that I did not need.

Grand Canyon University [GCU] abd not awarded

While I did obtain my masters degree from gcu, I thought it would be a good idea to go ahead and get my doctorate degree. What a huge mistake! I successfully completed all classes and even got approved for my proposal. I thought I was well on my way until my review team was little to no help at all. They would provide me very little feedback on my research and moved so slowly, so much so that I was enrolled in extension courses. They moved so slowly with my feedback and providing me with ineffective feedback until they sucked my financial aid dry. I literally ran out of financial aid. And guess what, they would not give me what I earned... My doctorate with abd. I am a teacher and I am surrounded by other professionals who obtained abd. I spent all that time and money and cant even get credit for what I earned and they were rude about my concern.

Grand Canyon University [GCU] Financial aid stipend check

GCU issued the stipend check on 9/20/2017 of $3254, and the incorrect answer was in the system. Which I have totally taken ownership on that issue. I had asked for a stop payment at that time because didn't want someone trying to cash that check. But was told there was a 21 day wait period. Now, during that time was concerned that someone would try to cash that check and I would still be responsible for paying that loan money back. Now, I am told that the stop payment was requested but I can not find out status or when a new check will be issued. I really don't understand why there are so many vague answers.

GCU is slow with Financial Aid, 1st school I ever attend and they take forever to send out stipend. Not to mention tuition already paid. They need to do better with FA. Invest in putting stipends on a card.

There is nowhere that it says specifically. I started GCU 8/8/22 and my financial aid paid right away. By the 11th my aid hit my student acct. I saw it in the finance hub on the student portal . That left me (1,449) which a stipend shows being made 8/18/22 when my acct then went to zero. They told me that when it zeros out is when the stipend prints and is then sent. This is the info I've gotten. I'm expecting that any day so I can let you know. Have you heard anything yet or no?

I started classes on July 21, 2022, my financial aid was posted on July 29, 2022, and the stipend was posted on Aug 4, 2022. I have not received anything yet myself, I spoke with the two counselors and they told me It should have been there around the Aug 12th and to call back when 21 days have passed. Aug 25th is the 21 date. I found it odd though that they will discuss the stipend issues over the phone but not answer the emails that I send out about the stipend, I also asked if they had a financial aid office and was told no. I'm not sure where the stipend is I have just stayed positive and will keep praying but if its not here by Thursday I'll be calling and seeing if they can send another check out and also give me more information about what may be going on. I have never had this issue, my HBCU did send out paper checks but we didn't run across this issue.

I am going through almost the same exact thing right here except for I had stressed my concern on being mailed a check to Florida ahead of time due to not living in the best of neighborhoods. I was assured not to worry. My check of 1313.00 was mailed out March 21, 2022. However, when I had yet to receive my check by March 30, I had made multiple calls and emails concerning issue to my advisors and finally was answered back at almost 5 at night which is 7 at night in Florida where I live. I have asked sense this day for them to cancel my check and resend one they continued to insist on me going back to the bank. So, I did just that, and again was turned away this time I tried Walmart money cash they said check is no good and to call the creditor, so I then proceed to go to Amscot while calling and emailing my advisors bac to back and for what for them to keep giving me run arounds saying they have no clue of the problem and to call this number and that number and talk to this person and that person and for me to continue to argue with the bank and possibly risk going to jail for public disturbance and try forcing them to call this number and that number which the bank was not hearing at all. Back to Amscot, Amscot is the first and the only ones to tell me why my check was not being able to be cashed. Amscot says that the check will not pass security check and again that I had to have the creditor reprint the check. So now here we are 1 day from the 21 day mark to being aloud to print my new check and my advisor requested it be done. But heres the really screwed up part two more days past I finally recieve an answer that the request to cancel the od check and reprint my new one was made and waiting approval 3 moredays go by for me to get an email asking if im sure im trying to cash the right check. and i said well yes im positive as its the only check i have recieved for me to get another email stating that the request was denied because my check had already been cashed meanwhile i still have the check so that is nearly impossible i am on the verge of snappig as i have lost my phone and my internet due to relying on this check that i have still yet to recieved. Now i sit here and wait for them to look into this matter and i will get a call when they figure it out. so my funds have been released by the state to them and someone else has coected on my money which is dead wrong. And yet no one has yet tol be able to explain to me why there is no direct deposits offered through GCU. Dirct Deposit would minimize everybit of this and save a ot of problems. Just the fact i have been to the bank so many times and right from day one have continuosusly been told that the check was NOT GOOD, Or that i needed to contact the creditor because the check is bad And sense day one i have been played with mike a toy and put back on the shelf. put to the side while all my requests were ignored. I am starting to think GCU scammed me competely

This is always an issue with GCU.First, they won't give specific date when they send stipend.Secondly, advisor wont give ypu answer and will respond super late or either too many excuses.I received an email updatingy stipend check was returned due to undeliverable address.Which doesn't make sense since i am receiving documents from the university such as 1098-t forms.I asked for a proof that itwas really sent to me but no proper respond instead saying since I have updated a new address to portal it will be re issue.I am on 7 weeks of my class and never received the stipend yet which is ridiculous because i never had an issue with other university i attended with receiving stipend.I am looking at the timeline and found that finance department of GCU only works on Thursday. So if you know you got stipend, might as well contact your Student Counselor to give heads up earlier so you will get it after 4 weeks.

GCU has certain laws to abide by (waiting Period) to issue you a check. It usually can take three weeks but with covid everything takes two or three weeks longer. Patient's is the key. I have been with GCU 3rd year and this is the first time my check took a while too. GCU is very good school and the process for cutting checks is the same...itsa covid not the school

Not anymore. They did away with that. You might want to contact the Department of Education and file a complaint. The refund process is so inordinately slow and does nothing but stress students out. The budget is way too low for Doctoral learners as well. The whole system needs to be overhauled; they don't even have a organized, official Financial Aid office!

Grand Canyon University [GCU] the class is irrelevant and teacher is too hard on grading.

I have freshman and I have this university class and it is online. I just do not understand why GRand canyons policy is mandatory to take this class, where they basically force you to take this class. Where I don't see what you learn from this, even though you will already learnt he material in there all by yourself. Instead of forcing the student s to take this class to learn to be organized and be successful in college, you are just putting more stress upon them. I have A's and B's in my other classes which are actual on ground classes, which actually teach you something. Also go towards my major. This university has more assignments that don't make sense to what Iam studying and in my opinion I think it is ridiculous that I might loose my full ride scholarship because of this class. I work hard, but the requirements for this class is much higher than my other classes. Like I said This class is irrelevant and I don't understand why we should take this. One of the reasons students drop out is because of this. People say they fail this class and ruins there Gpa and scholarships.

Grand Canyon University [GCU] grand canyon university is not cswe certified to become a social worker in oregon

When I started at Grand Canyon University in May I was so excited about becoming a student and I was more excited because it was a Christian school but I feel I was deceived. I told my counselor that I wanted to become a social worker and they told me that I needed to take psychology classes. Then something told me to do more research and found out to become a social worker in Oregon the school needs to be CSWE program. I emailed my counselor back and told him I needed to withdraw from school and the class. He told me that I needed to finish the semester off or I will owe more money. I certainly owe 3, 600 in loans for three classes. I do not feel I need to pay for this considering I wasn't told the truth. The school know I was living in Oregon and I feel that they should have told me that the school is not CSWE certified. So I need to know what to do to resolve this issue. I need my loan to be forgiven and unenrolled me from Grand Canyon University.

Grand Canyon University [GCU] my complaint is the misleading financial aid information.

I attended 4 classes and decided the school wasn't for me but since the pay periods are set up for every 3 classes I am now being told I have to pay for the other two classes I never attended or posted in. Supposedly this is because my funds were returned to the board of education except I still have to pay for those funds that I took out through the federal loan department. I should not have to pay twice for classes I never took. The school also never gives you a document where you sign and agree to this.

I am five classes away from having a Masters degree. Grand Canon has been pending by Fin Aid science Sept 24. I have almost done and my Aid has not even processed. I was told that because I am over the credit limit, I have taken 3six credits but should but my program was for only 34. I have called and called asking why after six weeks my Aid has not even ready to certify, they keep saying everything is okay it is just taking a while. I never talk to Finical Aid only my student service person, ever wondered why? All they have to d is send out an Affirmation letter for me to sign for any over amount, it is not that difficult. For what ever reason, no one knows what to do. All my finial classes cost five thousand total, I am at the finish line and they want to hold up Aid. This school, if I can call it that needs to be sued or shout down, messing with Aid is a Federal offense.

Grand Canyon University [GCU] scholarship disbursement withheld

I have been a cash paying student at GCU. If you look at my account you will see that I have a positive balance with GCU. I am requesting that the money be returned to myself and or my employer who disbursed a check to GCU in the amount of approx. $2300.
I will not be held captive by your university. I have had educational expenses that I have paid and applied for the scholarship to help me with those expenses. I do not have an outstanding balance so I don't know why the money has not been disbursed to me for expenses I have already incurred. If we can not reconcile I will pursue legal representation and I will be notifying my employer regarding GCU's practices and request that they o longer send scholarship funds directly to GCU.
For this reason I have not registered for another class with GCU. I will complete my education but it doesn't have to be with GCU.

Grand Canyon University [GCU] chick-fil-a

We entered chick-fil-a at 10:30 pm knowing that they closed at 11:00pm. I said to my friends Questioning why they would be closing at 10:45 (that is how long we waited to be served) when they obviously are supposed to close at 11:00. The manager of Chick-fil-A said very rudely “We aren’t closing 15 minutes early, we have 15 minutes of guests to serve.” They were not serving many more guests because I could see food already made. The fact that this woman was so rude, inserted herself into my conversation with my friend group, and proceeded to make a scene within the chick-fil-a/subway area is very inappropriate considering that any other business would serve customers before closing time. The fact that this happened on the Grand Canyon University campus is not okay. The manager also went up to the subway line to cut off my friend who had already been waiting in line and forced her out of the line which was not her place. Also earlier that day three out of four orders were incorrect and not fixed properly. I would hope that with the cooperation of a good company like Chick-fil-A and a great university like Grand Canyon that the customer service we receive would be much better. Apparently I was mistaken considering we are “just college students.”

Grand Canyon University [GCU] ssc & disabilities

My SSC never returns my calls, took loans out in my name without explaining them properly, telling me they had interest, telling me my interest rate, and taking out more than was needed. My SSC has left me in financial risk and my degree is in jeopardy.
Disabilities never efficiently gives me accommodations that I require to have an equal learning experience. I will go months without my accommodations making me struggle for months. Just recently, they gave me my accommodations at the end of the course without telling me which extended the course without my knowledge, so I missed assignments. No one told me, not my professor, not disabilities, and not my SSC, how am I going to be required to check for assignments that are passed my course if I'm under the impression my course is only 8 weeks long, not the 10 they extended it to.
I failed my course that I previously had an A in because my professor didn't help me, disabilities didn't give me my requirements, and my SSC ignored me.
Because of this, I lose my investment. I don't want to also lose my degree. These issues are not fair, and the actions taken by GCU seem to be discriminatory to disabled students.

Grand Canyon University [GCU] financial rip off

All the want is the money, they don't care about the student success. I was taking online classes for biblical studies and had repeated (2) illness disrupting my classes to the point I had to drop and retake. I was a straight A student. They were happy to let me retake the classes at an additional cost that was to come out of my loan stipends. Ultimately it was the online math course for Biblical Studies that was the final nail in the coffin. I had a math tutor that was unable to understand why a Arts degree required such an insanely difficult math course. I expressed to my councilors that I was falling behind and that I was not able to complete the course. I was not provided alternatives and it was never advised that there was a math assessment that should be required prior to enrollment. Instead I was advised to get a math tutor, I told the councilor and the math professor I had a tutor and they had difficulty with the course. The same GCU councilors told me they failed the same math course I was enrolled in and that they also had to retake them with the help of tutors. The finance councilor was less than friendly about the entire ordeal but was happy to tell me that I could retake the math class again at my expense. I advised I don't have time or money to throw away any longer that I would take the math classes else where and that I would look into other schools to complete the course. All they want is the money, they don't care about the students.

Grand Canyon University [GCU] working on my masters

I am currently working in my master's in counseling and was dropped from my practicum because the site said I did something unethical and that they had spoken to me about it, neither was true. I then went out of town for a few days and was told by GCU that my practicum site filled a complaint saying I was harassing them and clients but again untrue as I was out of town and didn't even have client contact information. I am now being told I will have to do a four week coaching coarse in order to graduate. I feel as if I did nothing wrong and GCU isn't listening to me.

Grand Canyon University [GCU] online course content

I have been attempting to complete my Masters of Healthcare Informatics degree online from Grand Canyon University, and the last 2 courses have been real eye openers for me...
The exact same work that has been perfectly fine for all of my other instructors, is all of a sudden not up to standards any more, and I cannot get any clarification of what is wrong because these last couple of instructors like to make vague, useless comments about what is wrong with your work, and then refuse to respond when you attempt to get further information from them.
Be Careful too, because if you are not sugar and spice and everything nice when you send them a message, they WILL submit a complaint to the Code of Conduct Academic Standards Review, and try to get you in trouble for not being nice enough about being screwed over by them.
Another complaint that I have is the lack of accessibility to my Student Adviser, who it seems is almost always out of the office for a few days, when I need him. For instance, I tried to Email him tonight, but got an automated response message that he will be out of the office until Tuesday, July 24. That is a problem because I am in the middle of a class right now, and Tuesday is too late.
As to what type of resolution I am seeking, it is simple, I just want to be able to complete my degree without being singled out for abuse by instructors who feel they are God's gift to Academia...
Either that, or I would like a refund of all of my tuition money that I have wasted on this so called 'Institution of Learning', immediately!

I agree with you. I am in the same program and have had no issues until my current course; which I cant seem to do anything correct. Its like now your at the end of the road and they want to tear you apart because they know you wont move on when you have a couple of classes left.

Grand Canyon University [GCU] payment

I was contacted by Josh Walker regarding enrollment, I explained to him I was going to be going on vacation out of state. Josh Walker informed me that that would be no problem, and they could be my class on hold because I told him I would not be doing any class work while on vacation, While on vacation I received a call from Jennifer student adviser that they could not put my class on hold, I explained that I did not take my laptop, and that I only brought my tablet she suggested that I get in touch with Alan Guntrie my instructor and explain my situation I did get in contact with him his response was I guess you will just have to roll the dice and hope you pass. Needless to say I flunked the course which was UMV-103 GCU sent an invoice for 1, 000 dollar payment through the Army since I used Tuition Assistance, I have been paying the Army back through my Army reserve drill pay and had. payed back 550.00. I was then contacted by Mr True blood and asked how can GCU get me back, said do the right thing and reverse the debt owed, since I would not have enrolled in college had I had known that they could not put my class on hold, I believed Josh Walker since he worked for the College, Mr true blood was able to get his manager to get the bill erased but then Mr true blood said they could offer me a scholarship to cover the 1, 000 dollars, that still says I was at fault. Mr True blood said he understood my frustration, as he would be frustrated to. I told him that I had already paid 550.00 dollars back to Education so that would mean that the class would now cost me 1, 550.00. On 6-24-17 I received a letter from GCU saying I have fourteen days to pay the 1, 000 dollars or they will turn me into collections. I did not realize that GCU did business that way to students, or I would have never enrolled in the College. I took Josh Walker at his word, since he worked for GCU only to find out he lied to me.

Grand Canyon University [GCU] quality of my education

I'm not completely complaining about the school itself, but the quality of the education that I pay alot of money for and after this semester I will more than likely not be back. When it comes to education and teaching at this school. It seems as if either the schools cariculum is terrible or the teachers don't care to teach. I have been here going on 3 semesters and I have never in my life have teachers give out so many essays and worksheets in my life. All the professors do is literally do a PowerPoint and that's it. It is paper after paper after paper. Like they want us to do their job and teach our selves. That is exactly how I feel, I am teaching myself. I have to look up the information on a paper that has had virtually no instructions, just a few points we have to hit on. When your doing 4 classes and each class has multiple essays and worksheets with a certain word count on it. It is near impossible to keep up. In my intro to sports management class I had 7 different papers and 2 PowerPoint presentations due. I dont know if you all are trying to weed out people, but what ever your doing it is not a good. Professors NEVER give you feed back on time, they don't show you your quizzes and what you did wrong, and all but one professor never gave feed back on worksheets so if you have done the worksheet and you don't have the right information you will miss those questions on the test which they don't show you. I have actually had a Christian worldview teacher tell me on a feed back from the student forum after I asked a simple question about a Bible verse, that I need to go to this web site and do research on the web to figure it out. I am done teaching myself for the money I spend here. I really like the atmosphere and the people but the education part is past horrific. I have had better instructors at a community college. Heck I had way better instructors at UTI than there is here. Something has to be done about the quality of the education, you all are giving yourselves a bad name and I will not recommend this school to anyone in the future. I had high hopes for this school but it looks like it's back to a community college to get my education.

I loved going to GCU! I went from 2010 until 2014! I was taking my last class which was special education student teaching. I was told my my"mentor" she was going to make me earn my grade. My supervisor yelled at me for nothing her and complaining to her that my mentor left to go to other schools and left me to be observed with a sub. I called GCU a lot to tell them I was having trouble but they pretend it was all in my head. I had no one listening and so on Dec 2014. The school contacted my supervisor and asked me to leave the school. They treated me like I hurt a student and I never found out what I did wrong. I just knew that my mentor was so afraid I would get her job. I spent 52k on my education and the school wanted me to fill out my FASA to get more money. I was not happy any more because once I used up all my money they wanted me to get more. Do not go to this school, I had an 3.8 gap and still can not believe a Christian school treated me this way!

Grand Canyon University [GCU] trying to screw me over.

I was gonna do online classes this past semester but due to issues with my daughter, I was unable to do it. In the first week, I tried 3 times to get in touch with someone to drop out. The person i kept talking to refused to let me talk to someone to drop the classes. Once I was finally able to talk to the person that would be able to do it for me, it was 2 weeks into the program. ( if you drop out in the 1 week you dont have to pay full price.) They are now trying to charge me almost $2, 000 because they refused to allow me to talk to anyone to drop the class in the time I was allowed. DO NOT ATTEND THIS SCHOOL!
