I have been paying around $35.00 per month for the last 15 years. The purpose was to cover for Heating/ Plumbing related issues. Started this plan with Direct Energy. Enercare took over from Direct Energy. The bills were paid through Enbridge.

I sold my home and the closing of the sale was July 18, 2017. I informed Enbridge about the sale. Enbridge advised me to inform Enercare too. I talked to 3 people from that company including one of the supervisors. The first 2 were not cordial in their discussions with me. The 3rd person was more understanding. It was Monday (july 23, 2017) that I might have talked to them. The first 2 told (one was a supervisor) me that I need to pay for the rest of the year for which I have not been served. The 3rd person said that, since the billing is through Enbridge, the new owner will continue to pay for the rest of the yea and I do not need to worry (the financial year runs from April to April). But I received a bill for $533.70 including HST. I did not sign any contract. Originally Direct Energy started with $9.00/ month (around) for total protection and it reached $35.00 after 2 or 3 years and I have been paying that on a monthly basis. I am not even aware of this contarct. I did not sign any contract this year. I am going ahead with my complaint to Ontario Consumer Protection. I am not responsible for any payment after July of this year. (How can I know whether Enercare will charge the new owner for the same service?).

This is regarding 59 Michelle Drive, Woodbridge, Ontario L4L 9B9.

Thanks

I have a similar issue with Enercare. At first, I sign up for their cooling protection plan and the agent told me there is a promotion that I can get Plumbing protection plan free for one year. There will be no charge for the plumbing protection plan as long as I cancel by the end of the one-year term. I marked the date on my phone calendar and I called them for cancellation after one year. Three months later, I see they are charging me for the Plumbing protection plan so I called them. They told me they cancelled my cooling protection plan when I called but not the plumbing plan, and I m now locked for another year after the renewal?! First of all, whenever you call their support line, you will not get confirmation by email on what they processed in your account. Secondly, you cannot manage your account online such as clicking canceling protection plan.

I feel like the free one-year protection plan is just a scam! They make the cancelation so difficult and confusing!

I am with Enercare since 2019 and have been paying them every month - on their package. They came in and said I need freeon, paid for it. The came next year - again paid for freeon. Next year, their technician came in and ran my AC for an hour without the freeon - damaging my AC/Coil. I have been running a portable AC to cool my house. This year, they sent someone to was my A/C whereas we clearly told them that the AC is not running and there is no freeon. The technician wanted to run it again and see what is happening. I have paid them multiple times for the same thing.

Enercare is an scam, a thief company and money grabber. They will try to sell you good story and once you are with them, forget about any service you will get. Why is Ontario energy even permitting them to operate? Is Ontario energy board paid out to keep them?
