I called to order a computer from Blue Hippo on 3/19/08. After reviewing info, I realized they still could not match my pay date with the every 2 weeks they wanted to take the money out of my account. I called back on the customer service line "George" gave me when I placed the order, [protected] on the 20th to cancel my order. I knew the person I spoke with was foreign and thought he was Indian, perhaps, like George. However, the man let me know that I would be forfeiting a lot of free gifts if I canceled my order. I told him that I get paid on the 1st and 16th and if they take the money out at any other time, it would jeopardize my account, so I'd thought about it and wanted to close my account.
The man said again how it is a wonderful package but I insisted I wanted to close the account. He told me that he would close the account.
Today, I received an email from Dell Computers, welcoming me into the company for buying one of their computers. I then decided to check with Blue Hippo to see if they canceled my order as they told me they would. When I called, I spoke with a lady who transferred me to someone else. He asked if he could help me and when I told him that I was calling to make sure they'd canceled my order on the 20th, he said that I did not call anyone in his division and that he would have been the one to close the account. He asked who it was that I'd spoken with and I told him I did not know but he had an accent and I thought he was Indian. He told me there are no Indians in his dept and I did not call, otherwise the call would have been transferred to him.
He was very, very rude and I asked if I could speak with his supervisor. He said there is no one higher than he is and that I'd not called his office before. I told him I had called but no one told me they could not cancel my order and that I needed to speak with someone else, so I assumed the account was closed because I'd spoken with customer services and canceled.
He said that the money is scheduled to be taken from my bank on Monday and I let him know that it should not be coming out of my account because I canceled within the 24-hour period. He then said there was nothing he could do. I let him know that there is something I could do, and I plan to contact my bank and stop payment on the check. He just got more irritated and yelled that he will cancel my account today!
I did not get his name either. I let my co-workers know how incredulous this situation was and they informed me that the company has a bad reputation. I was home when I placed the order, after hearing an advertisement on tv. I do not have internet access at home and my computer is old.
Anyway, I called back and spoke with "Ralph" and he told me that my account has been closed today. I asked him if he is Indian and he let me know that he is Hispanic. I asked him if he is the person I spoke with on the 20th but he denied this claim. He also let me know that the person who would have closed my account on the 20th would have been the account specialist. I asked what his name is and was given "Sergey". I asked if he is the highest person in rank, since he would not put me through to another manager, but said he is the highest person in the firm, Ralph put me on hold for a second or two, then came back and said, yes, he is the highest ranking person. Ralph reaffirmed that my account has been closed today.
I am worried that they will present the check to my bank before I have the opportunity to get to them, since I am at work.
This company failed to cancel my account within the 24 hour period when I called back to them. They either deliberately did not put me through and/or the person I spoke with
