I definitely DO NOT recommend using Colonial Van Lines for your move, as I had an absolutely terrible experience all around. They operate using a broker carrier hybrid model, which means they hire local subcontractors to move your precious household goods. Of course you’re not told this up front by the sales department and they portray the picture of a professional moving company equipped with an 18 wheeler and professional moving personnel.
Instead, what I received was a small clunky looking truck with two movers with very little training. They also did not speak English which made it impossible to communicate important things on handling and packing my items.
I had a piano that I was moving but the movers didn’t have a clue on how to handle it. My piano showed up at the delivery with nicks and scratches because the manager at the subcontracting company failed to have a third person at the delivery point, even though I was promised one. The two movers even communicated to me that the third person was on their way, but it was a lie because they never showed up, shrugged it off and then proceeded to move the piano just the two of them.
They left oil stain stains on my driveway from their truck and then lied to Colonial Van Lines saying that they didn’t park in the driveway. I was obviously present and saw where the truck was parked. They backed right up to the garage to load.
This was fly-by-night, obviously, and I am livid and disappointed in the service I received not only from them, but from Colonial Van Lines as well.
Moral of the story is, don’t be fooled by the professional sales people and do your research. I wish I had done more!
Recommendation: Do not use colonial van lines for your long distance moves.
