Today I went to the opening of the new North East Park. I got there at 11:00.

I saw a handicap spot, two actually, that had a barrier across it. I drove close to it and the young woman that was there moved the barrier. When I got out I heard a man telling her to keep the last spot barricaded until someone arrived.

Pretty special treatment for a handicapped person, right? No. I left early, around noon,(as a person with a handicap often does) and the car beside me did not have.a handicap placard. And neither did the 1sr cat. So out of the only four (really? Only four?) handicapped spots, only two were occupied by persons with disabilities.

I find it horrific that the City, who makes the bylaws doesn’t think they have to follow them. So do I take this to mean I’m not welcome at this facility? Am I not welcome at any facility? It’s quite apparent that people making these decisions don’t have to deal with a handicap, do they feel that we’re lucky to have spots at all?

Shame on you.

Pat Mayo

Desired outcome: A sincere apology. And an explanation of how the City will deal with staff that do things like this.
