On Tuesday, January 24th, 2023, my daughter, Rachel Newbolds was interviewed by store manager, Sherry Hicks and hired for store clerk. On Friday, January 27th, 2023, Rachel showed up for her shift and Sherry asked Rachel if she was "hitting on her!" Rachel was shocked and humiliated and said, WHY would you say that?! Sherry responded, "you removed a piece...

Casey's Phone order

I called early in the morning last friday to make a pizza order for later that morning. I was having a church function and wanted to order several breakfast pizzas. I have been a customer for a long time. The location is in south sioux city nebraska on dakota avenue. Before I could even say hello the woman on the other end said "listen here you crazy [censored] dont call here again!" and hung up on me. I tried to call back with no luck I believe the person may have been a employee named barbie or the other young lady w glasses in the kitchen. I also wanted to complain about the cashier named barbie or barb. She is the kitchen managers girlfriend and alot of times myself and other customers have seen them kissing good bye as they switch shifts. She is very rude and she always looks as if she is taking drugs.

Desired outcome: Employee reprimanded or let go

Casey's Sexual harassment, discrimination and retaliation

I am an employee at a Casey's in SD. I am experiencing ongoing retaliation from my store manager for reporting workplace harassment by a coworker.

The harassment was handled, if mishandled; the retaliation has yet to be resolved and causes me far more stress than $12/part time is worth, especially as a highly valuable employee. As far as the harassment, it was severe and ongoing for several weeks. I reported the ongoing events in a timely manner, first verbally and then in a written incident report, and was validated by the manager I verbally reported to that I had grounds for sexual harassment and deserved a safe, non-hostile and professional work environment. I declined to press for a sexual harassment claim conditionally on the assurance that the harassing behavior of my coworker would be addressed and would not happen again. Though not sexual in nature, I continued to endure workplace abuse unchecked for weeks until he finally crossed the line and was consequently fired by my store manager. She told me one of the reasons that she was fine with firing him immediately after the last reported incident was that she didn't want to lose me as a very hard and capable worker, meaning that she didn't want me to feel the need to quit due to feeling unsafe at work.

I work in the kitchen and am easily overqualified for the job, with exclusively good recommendations from previous employers, management experience in the more than decade of my work history in food business and pride at having never once been fired from a job. My store manager told me on my first day of training that she was "amazed by me" and coworkers have continued to take the time to compliment and verbally appreciate my work ethic, even after the training period. My store manager also told me directly that her bosses had paid her compliments on the improved condition of the kitchen since I'd started working and she encouraged me to "keep doing whatever [I'm] doing back there," as it was purely due to my own initiative and not any new instruction from management. She also told me that the store had gotten the best inspection score she'd seen in years since I started working there. Her praise and verbal thanks ceased after she fired my coworker for harassing me at work, and she is now singling me out for retaliation, even though my work ethic is as strong as it has been this whole time.

I recieved a "verbal" warning in the form of a handwritten note that was handed to me by a coworker while my store manager was not working. I am the only one who has recieved this kind of reprimand that I know of in the months that I've been working here. The warning was, of course, a written warning as no verbal contact was made on the subject of the complaint before I received the written warning. This deprived me of the opportunity to have a discussion with her about the complaint prior to the finalization of the punishment, thus negating the entire point of having a real verbal warning precede a written one; that is, a first attempt to communicate and problem solve. In short, my store manager skipped the correct process by issuing me a written warning before making any attempt to issue a verbal warning, a breach of protocol which so far has been unique to me.

The complaint itself is extremely questionable, and when I disclosed the contents of the warning to my coworker, his immediate response was to warn me to "watch out for [the coworker who was fired for harassing me]", and informed me that the former employee and harasser has been and is still currently making hostile threats about trying to get me fired and hiring a lawyer to sue Casey's. The informing coworker, based on his observations of me as "laid back" and "[our store manager]'s hardest worker," coupled with the stark and suspicious incongruity of the complaint claim with my observed work ethic and routine, immediately assumed that the customer complaint which formed a partial basis for the written warning was directly connected to a retaliation attempt from the fired former coworker who was harassing me.

After this coworker informed me, I called my store manager to inform her, left a message and have heard no response on the matter to date.

The phone had also been having apparent functional issues, which played a part in the complaint and written warning. I had left a note for the store manager a week prior informing her of the issues with the phone and asking her to fix it, which I have a timestamped picture of for documentation, and my coworker who also works nights verified that the phone had been having the same functional issues during his night shifts for him. The phone rang once and went dead despite the battery not being low once while both the coworker and I were working, and I held the phone up to his ear to verify and hopefully prevent any further gaslighting from my store manager, who said that the phone "worked fine for [her] during the day." The inconsistency of the phone's apparent issues between day shifts and night shifts, considering that the former retaliatory coworker knows I exclusively work nights, also lends credibility to suspected attempts at retaliation.

Tacked onto the written warning with the customer complaint were a list of other general passive aggressive reminders and warnings, such as "the outside trash needs to be done every night" and the same reminder with bathrooms. A customer once took the time to tell me, while I was doing the outside garbages, that I was "the only person [she's] ever seen working here who does them." Especially lately with the recent loss of 3 staff members, I have been doing 12-16 hours of work packed into an 8 hour shift for no extra pay. My only incentive is my genuine desire to contribute and help the store, but in light of my current treatment, it just feels like thankless unpaid labor. I also came in on my day off to help with the staffing issues, and didn't receive so much as a "Thanks." I come in often to the start of my shift to things behind not caught up, prep not done, 12 empty dough buckets, not a single ball of dough panned up etc, and so far have more than pulled my weight by catching the store up as much as is humanly possible in the time allotted to me each night, while also running a sometimes busy kitchen and fulfilling orders. Still, the customer is correct; I am usually the one doing the outside garbages throughout the week. If I don't have time, I ask a coworker to do it, but I also don't follow up as I am neither a manager nor getting manager wages.

Why my store manager would target the only person who is consistently completing a task and nag them, while neglecting to remind the people who aren't doing it, is beyond me, and the whole thing smacks of scapegoating.

I was also accused in the written warning of not picking up the phone when it rang, which is untrue, as I always pick up the phone when I see and hear it ringing. I am occasionally outside of the kitchen for 5 minutes at a time or less to take trash out to the dumpster or use the bathroom, and I ask my coworkers to answer the phone while I'm out if it rings. Whether due to functional issues or attempted retaliation from a former coworker, I mentioned that I’d reported the issues to my store manager with the phone a full week before the written warning. I called in sick recently and the first time I called, the phone rang and rang until giving an automated message that the number I was trying to reach (Casey’s main phone line) was unavailable, and then the call disconnected. I kept calling until someone picked up, and I know for a fact that a coworker and my store manager were both there watching the phone ring because I ended up speaking to both of them once a call made it through and was answered, and because my store manager has asserted that the phone works perfectly during her day shifts. Like everything, I documented the unanswered call, automated message and disconnected call with an audio recording to prove that one of the things I’d been falsely accused of doing by my store manager - neglecting to answer the phone - is something she has not and definitely won’t receive an equivocal official written reprimand for doing herself, even with the hard evidence.

I did attempt to have a verbal discussion with my store manager after receiving the written warning, and after we went through it point by point, she acknowledged that she knew that her other employees were neglecting the duties she reprimanded me for and stated that "everyone is getting in trouble" and that she would "have a conversation and talk to them about it."

So, I get a written warning without a prior verbal warning, and she will allegedly have a verbal conversation with everyone else. So far, there is no evidence that she has officially reprimanded any of my other coworkers for the tasks they are neglecting, and no one else has received a written warning. She did, when she realized that I was consistently either personally completing the tasks that I was accused of neglecting or making sure to ask a coworker to do them, assert that it was my responsibility to follow up and leave a note for her if they did not complete the task. I reminded her that it is not my responsibility to do that because I am not a manager, am not receiving manager pay and do not consent to unpaid manager responsibilities. In short, I should not have to follow up on my coworkers and make sure they are doing their jobs in order to not be punished, because that's a manager responsibility and as a basic Team Member, I am not responsible for being reprimanded if other coworkers do not complete their own tasks. My store manager responded to my boundary by anecdotally stating that "before [she] was a manager, [she] followed up on coworkers and left notes if they didn't do their jobs," and indicated that I should do the same. Essentially, she asserted that because she accepted unpaid manager responsibilities before becoming a manager, I also should. It should be noted that I am not her, and also that I have zero interest in moving up in this company to any form of management. My boundary stands, but I don't think she heard it. According to her, the written warning also stands.

I am doing the most work and no one else is getting in trouble. I am tired. My workplace hasn't felt safe for over a month between the harassment, sexual harassment and now retaliation and scapegoating from my boss. Even if all of my coworkers did recieve written warnings without prior verbal warnings, which I guarantee will not happen, it should be noted that, even though being short staffed is not the fault or responsibility of the team members, we have all been very helpful and flexible in this stressful, short-staffed time. We've been staying late, coming in on our day is off, one manager even worked until 10pm and came back to work at 3am, 5 hours later, which multiple managers have disclosed isn't uncommon. (It's also illegal in every other state that I've worked in, not sure about SD though.) It seems to be this precise time that our store manager has stopped offering encouragement for good work ethic or even a basic "thank you" for coming in beyond what is scheduled and expected in order to help her and the store, and instead is taking on the mindset that "everyone is in trouble"; apparently, especially me. A modicum of flexibility, patience with communication and human grace would be appreciated in return for the flexibility, patience with communication and human grace that her employees are showing up with for her right now.

It seems to be a prevalent problem, not just in my store but in many Casey's stores across multiple states (based on employee complaints and reviews as well as multiple lawsuits,) that management will often single out one employee and scapegoat and bully them until they quit. They were already doing it to the night manager when I got hired in, and my store manager talks consistently about trying to find reasons to fire him even though he works hard and comes in to help whenever asked.

Coworkers and people in my life alike are so mystified that I'm the chosen scapegoat of this store (as everyone who knows me knows that I am a hard worker) that it was even suggested to me that perhaps the store manager is self-sabotaging by trying to run out her best employee at a critically short-staffed time. There are many reasons why people engage in self-sabotaging behavior, due to mental disorders, unhealed trauma, or any number of things that could be resolved with a commitment to therapy. I, myself, am in therapy, and consider it my responsibility as an adult to utilize therapy to prevent any inappropriate misplaced behaviors from affecting non-therapy spaces, such as personal relationships and workplaces. I can't ethically pressure my boss to embody a similar commitment to workplace appropriateness by whatever means necessary, any more than she can ethically pressure me to accept unpaid manager responsibilities; however, I do expect as a queer disabled woman to be provided a work environment that at least adheres to the law in regards to employee rights. So far, the only thing I've asked for with this job is what is legally required: that I am not discriminated against for my legally protected statuses, harassed sexually or otherwise, or retaliated against for reporting illegal discrimination or harassment; and furthermore, that I am provided a work environment that is safe, professional and not hostile.

And so far, no dice.

It's worth noting that the coworker who was fired for harassing me and who threatened to sue Casey's for wrongful termination could only really have grounds for a successful lawsuit if our manager failed to coach him when harassment was first reported. Given how suffocating and unprofessional the communication issues are in this store, it's entirely likely that he was not coached or even verbally warned for the harassment and therefore was not given an opportunity to change his behavior, because it was never addressed with him.

I also called in sick recently, my first and only call-in in the months I've been working for Casey's, and I absolutely expect retaliation for it with the way things are going, even though I made sure to follow proper call-in procedure flawlessly. Thankfully I've been documenting everything with photos and recording all the phone calls (legally, according to state and federal law), but at the end of the day I never wanted any kind of battle, legal or otherwise. I just wanted a simple job where I could work hard, feel safe, get income and leave the job out of my personal life once I clocked out.

If (when) I experience further retaliation, I'll post an update.

Desired outcome: An apology for targeted retaliation. A safe workplace to be fully restored to me. If that's not possible, severance pay totaling 4 weeks' wages (33hrs/week $12/hr).

Our situations are circumstantially similar, except I was terminated. But they did not even respect me enough to give me a formal notice or explanation as to why I was terminated, the way I was informed was due to being woken up to a police officer knocking on my front door at 5am the day after I had two major surgeries and had just gotten home and settled in my bed (Casey’s knee and had me scheduled on leave for this entire week), he handed me a business card and said that the night before his last call before clocking off was a call from my store (the officer did not seem to understand I was an employee and not just a regular person) due to an incident and I have been formally trespass and he had no information for me. I still have not heard from a single one of my team members or upper management even after countless phone calls from me, emails, texts and voicemails. The way I learned I was not coming back after my medical leave was an emailed form falsely accusing me of disrupting business and threatening a coworker and guest. I HAD JUST HAD TWO SURGERIES ON THE DAY THEY ALLEGE I DID THIS AND WAS LITERALLY UNCONSCIOUS and have two people who live with me that can verify I never once got out of bed and couldn’t have gotten out of the bed without them lifting me out so this whole thing is a lie and has cost me my livelihood and now I have a criminal trespass on my record and am banned from the store for a year so I am forced to wait for the day they decided to actually contact me back because now if I show up to my store to try and force them to explain to my face why they did this to me, despite every interaction with my manager was in the form of her singing my praises, I can be arrested. I am begging for someone in Casey’s Corporate to contact me and help me clear this up off my record at the very least. They also did not give me my last paycheck.

I called in a pizza order to the Granger, Iowa. Store at 5:30PM on 1/21/2023. The order; "one large Flat bread, half Supreme and half Pepperoni" was repeated back by the employee. Wait time was 30 to 35 minutes. When I arrived 40 minutes later, my pizza was just going in the oven. I waited while it was baked. When I got home I find a regular crust, not Flat...

Casey's Store manager

This complaint is about the Casey's Store Manager in Girard, Kansas. Chase Piatt.

I have been a regular at this store for years, and have had friends who have worked there. I am disgusted with this store manager, Chase. It was one thing to smell marijuana on him almost every time I am in close proximity to him.. But now on several occasions I have overheard him talking about selling marijuana to other customers and even younger employees. I wasn't going to say anything but I saw him smoking pot on the premises near the dumpster a few weeks ago on a Wednesday morning. I have even overheard him talking about being high on other drugs; cocaine, xanax, adderall, etc. At first I thought he was joking because what kind of store manager would say that stuff out loud in the middle of the store where customers can hear? Even in front of children! But it's become very obvious that he isn't doing his job sober, and neither are half of his employees. This is extremely dangerous and an embarrassment to this company. All of those employees need to be drug tested. I do not want to come into a store where the entire staff is on drugs and not even trying to hide it. This store needs a new store manager immediately and some of those employees need to be replaced as well. People will do what they want at home but should not come into their job under the influence. Extremely unprofessional! Do better, Casey's!

Desired outcome: Drug tests need to be given to every employee including the store manager and those who fail the test need to be replaced.

He also is a manipulative creep that preys on young women so be careful he used to touch my friend when she worked there and called her s3xual names. He even s3xually abused a well known girl around here in her own home! And he had a pregnant wife at home. She left him because he has touched youg girls a lot of times and she doesn't want her baby in danger. So sad!

I would suggest calling corporate because all they do to those low income managers is make them think they're powerful workers but they are really just working in small towns where all the creeps hide out. Casey's should fire him immediately since he sells drugs to under age kids too!

Casey's Manager fired me for my account was hacked into and prior to them finding out I reported it to the assistant manager.

On or a out December 16th, 2022, I went to work and reported my phone and all my bank accounts, had been stolen and I could not login to any of them. The assistant manager said she would take care of it and she had to go that day her shift was over. So the next day I was not on the schedule to work I ended up getting called in anyways be the manager is lazy and did not want to come in anyways. After reporting this I was thinking I should have heard something by now and I haven't, so I called daily pay and they said that I had to call my manager and have him to see where my check was. I called Micheal my manager and he informed me theres nothing he can do to help. So here I am I got fired for something I did not do and also can not get payed for the work I did do...

Desired outcome: Get my paycheck and maybe my job back because I am not at fault here.

Casey's poor hygiene in the kitchen from kitchen manager

I was a regular at the Caseys in Holdrege on 4th street. I would go into the store around 11am- 1pm. I witnessed on several occasions the head kitchen manager making pizza without gloves, no hat and wiping her sweat on the back of her hands then preparing the food. This is just gross. I have no idea if she has covid or any other serious illness. I told the store manager I think Tina or Lisa, she was no help. woudnt even give me her bosses number. in fact I gave up my information on a piece of paper so she can have her boss get ahold of me and I witnessed her throw the paper away. As far as I can see both Caseys here in Holdrege Nebraska are going down hill. It wont be long before they lose the stores completly, unless the higher bosses find workers that actually care.

Casey's Was falsely accused, sexually harassed and humiliated

On the 21st of December I entered the Casey's General Store on West 9th Street Hyw. 15 in Mount Carmel , IL. With two people ahead of me and two other customers entering the store I was accused of being in the store way back when before I had been in a bunch of other stuff at Marathon Fastbreak up the road is how the Employee addressed me . Her name is Dena . ( Not sure of correct spelling ). I assured her that I did not recall this situation . I politely ask if she was sure it was even me . She said, yes honey I know it was . I said , I believe it must have been someone other than myself . She said , no , I know it was you . I called the police on you myself both times. I said , then when did they talk to me. They never came to my home . She oh I know , they came in here and talked to you and walked you out . I again ask her if she was sure it was me . She replied , I know it was you . I ask what the call was about , shrugging her shoulders as if she wasn't sure how to answer me, she replied uh , disorderly I guess. I have never been approached by law enforcement inside that store. I was pulled over one time , in front of the store due to an expired registration . But it wasn't a big issue. I went in made my purchase and left . This took place with the store manager that works days listening . To my knowledge nothing was done or addressed . I have never been so humiliated and embarrassed in my life .

I went in about 30 minutes ago at approximately 11:30 a.m. and ask the manager if I could speak to him . He was very loud , very unprofessional and was saying I wasn't here . I allowed him to know that I wasn't there either for this false accusation in front of other employees and customers . I ask if he had a copy of the police report of complaint due to what she thought was for being disorderly . He said , I wouldn't get that the police would . I allowed him to know that I would be filing a complaint and filing charges . He loudly responded with , " file charges for what , because somebody ask you a question . I said , it was very unprofessional for her to even bring it up , especially in front of other employees and customers. He said , well honey you do what you've got to do .! later in her accusations stating that this was approximately 5 years ago . Because when I was injured at Marathon that took place in 2020 . She referenced it was long before that . Two or three years . To my knowledge she wasn't present when this incident took place and she would have no direct knowledge and this situation is involved in a trial case coming up. So now not only have I been falsely accused , embarrassed horribly , treated as if I'm on drugs or alcohol and wiped out and can't remember . My defrirmation of Character exposed again in front of other employees and customers , I have been treated with absolutely no respect , sexually harassed by being called honey on more than one occasion left to believe that it's okay to treat others this way and get away with it without any source of settling the situation , apologies and to continue the aggravation of embarrassment not only by an employee but now the manager.

I will be filing other complaints , filing charges against the store employee and the manager and Casey's in general . This should never happened no matter the situation and especially out of nowhere after this period of time and in front of anyone . I have never been so upset , embarrassed , emotionally degraded , humiliated and set back . This is another reason why it will also allow law suit against Marathon FastBreak of Mount Carmel, IL.

I am asking that you respectfully address this incident in a professional manner with results and a reply of report on how and whom addressed it and what the outcome will be . I suffer from severe PTSD , physical injuries , depression , anxiety and other circumstances . This has added a horrific feeling of hurt , embarrassment , depression , anxiety and low self esteem . This issue will be addressed with my attorneys , counselor and administrative judges in a Federal Court . One employee on this day apologized , said she was sorry it happened and that's why when Dena did this to me , she stepped back . Agreeing it shouldn't have ever happened . On one other occasion while in this same store , this employee was using profanities , complaint she was gonna walk out . She was sick of the [censored] and tired of the way she was being treated. I replied with I hope it gets better , have a good night . On another occasion I was told by this same manager as we were joking about someone complaining that they could notify corporate but it would do them no good , his friend or significant other works for Corporate .

My Christmas being totally ruined , my loss of interest restricted now gone . I am in tears as I type . This is a horrible feeling for no reason other than self gratification of another's personal well being and feeling along with my mental status at this point and the mental anguish that I am going through over this senseless , unforgettable and unforgiving circumstances. I will no longer enter your premises.

Thank you,

Tina Davis

Casey's Terrible management

The manager Vickie in Marcus Iowa 406 highway 3, cuts people’s hours down so they work less than 15 hours when they have children. Discriminates against employees and differing races. She treats her employees like they don’t have families and have to bow down to her. The head boss had given her one last chance or she’s gone and she continues. She changes the schedule and screams at her workers after hours because they didn’t see the schedule ahead of time when they are gone out of town. The place is filthy. Reaks of dung. I 100% do not recommend going here unless you want trash and poor quality and management.

Desired outcome: Corporate to call the facility and to explain to this person discrimination against employees and customers is terrible especially being racist

Casey's Management

Its obvious the holdrege Nebraska Casey's need help. I have seen several new people in and out. No one wants to stay because of management. The head manager for ho!drege was working in the morning and was very rude to a customer. Customer said how is your day going and she got no response. Managers are to cover when workers call in. If peop!e sign up for manager that is part of their job. Being rude to customers is not right. You should not ever be rude to your customers but in holdrege it happens daily. Also workers or management should not ask their coworkers about people in their family life. That is not their business. Ask yourself if you have questions. Very unprofessional at the 2 stores . very sad that the customer is no longer right or appreciated at all.

Desired outcome: higher management needs to step in and do something about management

Casey's Management problems

My girlfriend's son Matt was recently promoted to Kitchen manager at Casey's in LaSalle IL. Last week He became ill and he went to Urgent Care. He tried calling Casey's in LaSalle Illinois numerous times. They refused to answer the phone. I tried to call and got the same thing nobody answered. His mother tried to call many many times nobody answered. I posted it on Facebook and Facebook friends tried to call nobody answered. When we finally got somebody to answer the phone The manager was very rude and ignorant and stated that there's no way they did not answer the phone. I called one day and finally got somebody to answer and she said her name was Jackie. She said to call tomorrow when the manager was on duty. I found out the manager's name is Jackie. Whether this is one in the same I don't know. Anyway we were told that he was fired on a Saturday when he was in the hospital emergency room even though we could not contact them. My girlfriend finally spoke to the manager today because she was really rude when her son finally got through to Casey's yesterday. And she explained to the manager that we have so much documentation that we continually tried to contact Casey's. We also have medical documentation. When we explained what the outcome was of his medical issue she said good job Matt and hung up the phone. After we told her of all the documentation we have she is trying to deny firing him.

Desired outcome: I think the manager needs to make a public and written apology. I think that she needs to be fired. He is very concerned about going back to work for fear that they will find a reason to fire him.
