Bosch review: Bosch glass cooktop shattered – my biggest concern is the safety explanation

I purchased a Bosch glass cooktop because I trusted the Bosch brand and its reputation for quality and safety.

While cooking under normal household conditions, the glass surface suddenly shattered. Fortunately, no one was injured, but the incident could easily have caused serious injuries due to flying glass fragments.

An authorized Bosch service technician inspected the appliance. I was then informed by Bosch Türkiye that the damage was considered user-related. The explanation I received was that, during normal use, a spoon, pot lid, or another kitchen utensil may have caused an invisible micro-crack in the glass. According to Bosch Türkiye, this microscopic damage may not cause the glass to break immediately but could instead lead to sudden shattering days or even weeks later when the cooktop is heated.

What concerns me most is not only my individual case, but the implication of this explanation.

In every kitchen, it is completely normal for kitchen utensils to come into contact with the cooktop during everyday cooking. If ordinary daily use can create invisible damage that later causes the glass to shatter unexpectedly, how is a consumer supposed to know that the appliance has become unsafe?

This is the question that Bosch Türkiye has not answered.

Instead of addressing this safety concern, I was offered a discounted paid replacement of the glass. I declined because replacing the glass does not answer the fundamental safety question. If the explanation provided by Bosch Türkiye is correct, how can I be confident that the replacement glass will not develop the same invisible defect under normal use?

I requested a refund because I no longer have confidence in the product's safety, but my request was rejected.

I sincerely hope Bosch will review this matter not only as a customer service complaint but also as a product safety concern. Consumers deserve a clear technical explanation of how invisible damage can be detected and how they can determine whether their appliance remains safe to use.

I am sharing my experience so that other consumers can make informed decisions and so that Bosch has an opportunity to address this important safety issue.
