I am writing to formally complain about my experience at the Big 5 Sporting Goods store located on Arden
Way in Sacramento, California. On June 5, 2026, during a visit with my twin daughters, I was treated in a
manner that left me feeling embarrassed, singled out, and uncomfortable.
Upon entering the store, we were greeted by Bianca and another employee at the front counter. We then
proceeded to browse the women's clothing section. An employee named Frank approached us and asked if
we needed assistance. I informed him that we were just looking and then asked where the dressing rooms
were located. He pointed them out and stated that he would unlock them when we were ready.
Later, when my daughter was preparing to try on clothing, Frank advised us that only three items were
permitted in the dressing room at one time. I acknowledged the policy and began sorting through the
clothing. At that point, Frank removed the remaining items and placed them behind the front register.
When I later requested access to the clothing so my daughter could continue trying on additional items,
Frank briefly brought them out but returned most of them behind the counter before I had an opportunity
to review them. He then walked away and did not return to assist us.
As the interaction continued, I became increasingly uncomfortable and felt as though I was being
monitored and treated with suspicion. Because of this discomfort, I instructed my daughters to return the
clothing, and we decided to leave the store.
As I approached the exit, Frank loudly stated, “Hey, you didn't pay for that,” referring to a soda I had
purchased earlier from Bianca at the front register. At the time, I was carrying both the soda and the receipt,
which was clearly visible in my hand. Before I could respond, Bianca immediately informed him that I had
already paid for the item.
Being publicly questioned about a purchase that I had clearly paid for was upsetting and humiliating,
particularly in front of my daughters and other customers. This incident, combined with the earlier
interactions, left me feeling unwelcome and unfairly targeted while simply shopping with my family.
I respectfully request that Big 5 Sporting Goods investigate this matter and review the actions and conduct
of the employee involved. No customer should feel as though they are under suspicion without cause or be
subjected to public accusations after making a legitimate purchase.
