On Sunday November 12th, 2023 at approximately 4:30pm I went to the Big 5 store (#057) to purchase 9mm target load ammunition. When I arrived, one of the store representatives told me he was not authorized to sell me the ammunition. The representative also told me the store manager is the only person, at that store, who was authorized to sell me the ammo...

Big 5 Sporting Goods Product reviews online

I recently bought some Goodyear Barron Memory non-slip work shoes. I went to work that same day and they were awful and did not work as advertised. I went to big 5's website to post a negative review and they flagged it. I stated that they WERE NOT non-slip at all and that I was unsatisfied with the "quality" of shoe. Tried reviewing again and again wasn't posted. I looked at some other products on their site and they only post good reviews of their stuff. I imagine it's so they can deceive people because nobody would buy something with a bad review? Instead, they'll only post good reviews as to make money and encourage people to buy their shoddy wares.

Big 5 Sporting Goods Buying ammo and kept waiting

Kimberly Webb on Folsom Blvd Big 5 kept me waiting and made me late. I tried discussing it with her so that she can come out and help me and kept me waiting and nobody was able to help me. .Kim seemed to be unempathetic with assisting or servicing or satisfying me as a customer…I lost my one day deal and I am a religious customer of Big 5 but management needs to learn how to service customers properly. She left a sour taste in my mouth of Big 5.

Desired outcome: Training and needs to be reminded how to keep customers welcomed in her store instead of chasing them away

I pd for a gift card for my grandson on Friday and your holding my money on a fixed income. Just because you didn't go thru with the order my grandson still had to have the shoes so I had to take another hundred out for his shoes. You tying up my 100 on my bank card is an inconvenience. Big 5 Sporting Goods Customer service

I live in crescent City California and there are slim pickings when it comes to shoes in this town and where to buy them. Big 5 is one of two places that sell shoes. I went in with my son and headed towards the shoe department. Not only did they have the smallest variety of shoes I've ever seen in a big five, they had no staff working the department or any other that I could find. I got up to the cashier area and there were three cashiers sitting around talking including the manager. I sat for a minute to let them finish their conversation while they didn't even look my way finally I interrupted them which made two of them roll their eyes. I asked if they had a specific shoe I was looking for that I had seen online was carried at the store. The manager said we don't have that and turned around and went back to the conversation. I realized there's not much competition so they don't have to have customer service, but it's no wonder why they have so much theft at this store. Shame on you for not having higher standards despite the lack of competition I won't show up here again.

Desired outcome: Serious customer service training

Big 5 Sporting Goods Service complaint on Christina Manager at Big 5 in Sacramento CA Mack Road

On multiple occasions, this manager has been rude and multiple times when asking her normal questions she gets an attitude and raises her tone like I am her child most recently I have had enough and I started letting her know how I feel she doesn’t seem to care very much so I need district or regional office to review her at this office. It makes me not even want to shop at the store anymore and I live around the corner.

Desired outcome: She needs to talk politely needs training to never over talk, or yell at a customer. She seems to be slightly racist because I am Mexican and she works in the ghetto. Maybe she hast to deal with a lot of rude customers, but that’s not ok.

Big 5 Sporting Goods Service complain in Big 5 in 17019 Ventura Blvd, Encino, CA 91316

Hi i would like to write a complain about an employee in Encino location. We were there today on 12/13 around 5:40 to 6:20 pm. This employee had a blonde hair, and don’t know what his name was and he wasn’t even helping us. We tried in 3 boots and purchased one Along with other purchases. He came to us and said you should pick up your trashes or don’t come to the store again. We were shocked and asked what trash and show it to us. He then took us to the place we tried, there was some trashes from inside the shoes that was there before we were there from other customers. We told him this wasn’t us but he was so rude and accusing us for doing that then he was saying you are such a monster to me or some kind of other words under his breath. I called for Manager and explained to him but he didn’t seem that he cared. This employee seemed high from drugs. I won’t ever go back to that store and it was such a horrible experience for My kids and I. Im requesting to see the camera footage from that moment, first to see and shows that trashes were already there before us and then the way he talked to us. I understand there is a shortage of employees but you need to hire people to bring customer in not out. Very very disappointing.

You can email me with any questions. [protected]@yahoo.com

Big 5 Sporting Goods Rude disrespectful manager

I went in to return an item. A young girl (Dania) was helping me and when she called the manager over for a key I greeted him with a "Good Morning". He ignored me, didn't even look over at me at all. Granted it wasn't morning, but never-the-less a greeting is a greeting. I have been in Customer Service work for most of my life, I never minded how somebody greeted me. As a customer service professional it's your jobs to treat everyone with respect. Especially if you're a manager. Your the one setting the example. I called him on his rudeness and he responded with, "you said Good Morning." So, he didn't like my greeting and that's why he didn't respond is what I took from that response.

I asked him if he was a manager, and he responded, "one of them." I told him, it shouldn't matter how someone greets, a greeting is a greeting. He just stood there staring me down. Once he locked eyes with me that was it, I wasn't going to accept his weak reason. I told him he's not setting a good example, and when he continued in his disrespectful glare I felt his rage. I told him his vibes aren't so good either. He was a native American looking man with long black hair pulled back in a ponytail.

Desired outcome: You don't have to write him up, he needs customer service training. Leave your personal life at the door William. If I see him again he owes me an sincere apology, if he means it I will accept it.

Big 5 Sporting Goods Customer service

About two months ago me and my friend went into Big 5 sporting goods store in Vancouver WA off Hwy 99. My friend walked in first and I walked in about ten minutes after her. As soon as the manager seen me walk in she went straight to the exit doors and stood by them. My friend is Caucasian as I am African American. My friend asked me if I noticed that and I told her "yeah". While we were walking around the store I noticed there was a game named spike ball that I had got for a gift one year. I grabbed the box and walked up to a employee and asked him if I brought my spike ball game into the store would they be able to do anything for me because I didn't want the game and he replied with "I'm not sure you'll have to ask the manager who's standing over there". I walked over to the manager and asked "could you guys return this if..." And before I could finish my sentence she said "I just watched you grab that box off the shelf I'm not returning it for you" and everyone in the store got quiet. It was a pretty embarrassing situation because the exit door is right next to the registers which is where everyone in the store were standing at. I dropped my head for a second than looked back at her and said "if you would have let me finish my sentence you would have heard that the game was a gift given to me that's at my house and all I wanted to do was show you the box so you know what game I'm talking about". You could tell she felt a little silly and replied with "oh well I could give you store credit if you brought it in". The fact that she yelled at me like that and stood by the door the entire time when I walked into the store told me she was racist. I was the only African American in the store. She treated me like a thief or she just feels like all blacks steal. I had only been in that store once before that and that was to purchase a almost $300 gun. Her ignorance was uncalled for and embarrassing and it still makes me mad till this day. If that's the type of people Big 5 hires, than I'd rather not shop there ever again. I just wanted to bring this to Big 5s attention because she represents Big 5.

Desired outcome: An explanation on why I was treated like that.

Subject: THE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE!

Dear Big 5 Corporate,

I have been a loyal customer of Big 5 Studio City for almost 30 years. Today, I went into the store to return something and the Manager "STEVEN" who helped me was so rude. I was returning 3 things. 2 Adidas shorts and a bag of pickleballs. When I bought the pair of shorts I was returning, one of them had no tag but Cashier Natalia assured me not to worry, she wrote it in the receipt. Ok, I trusted her word. When I tried to return them Steven said NO since there was no tag. I asked Steven what his last name was, "I'm not going to tell you my last name". Really! This guy represents Big 5. I'd be embarrassed to have an employee like him, a manager treating a longtime customer like this. I told him what Natalia told me about the missing tag, "it's written in the receipt, he said NO. I asked when she'd be in again and he told me that she was on a break. Back in about 40 mins. Then I tried to return a bag of Penn Penn 40 pickleballs because as I have come to find out these are inside balls although they say outdoor. You can compare with the Franklin outdoor pickleballs and they are not the same, nor do they bounce like outdoor balls. He would not let me return them because I didn't have the tag. Well guess what neither did a few of the bags on your store's shelf currently. He didn't seem to care and went off to the back of the store to talk with another associate about the situation.

In today's market with everything being online, the brick and mortar stores are lucky to still have customers. CUSTOMER SERVICE IS EVERYTHING and when you don't have that then why should we support these stores? Why not save the time and rude customer service and just buy online with everyone else.

In conclusion, I left the store with one pair of shorts that don't fit and the wrong pickleballs. I have never in my life left a store feeling this way. Embarrassed and so upset.

I bet you could look at the camera footage to see your manager was in the wrong. Taking power a little too serious. I was at store 00098 @ 4:33pm on 09/26/22.

I think it's time to talk with this manager because he possesses zero managerial qualities!

Best,

Charla Rose

Desired outcome: I want to be able to return my products back to BIG 5 and have the manager apologize and treat me with respect!!

Big 5 Sporting Goods Big 5 Gun/Ammo Department.

To whom it may concern,

I just spoked with Big 5 in Bakersfield, CA in regards to my approval on my background check for the purchase of ammunition. However, when I called the employee in the customer service deparmtnet I spiked with transferee me to 1 of the 4 managers that work in the department. When speaking with the manager asking to check the latest of my purchased background check of $19 within the month or so. The manger stated she’s 1 of the 4 managers im the department for firearms, ammo, BB guns, CO2, archery, etc. then clearly states she doesn’t have access on the computer systems to pull up my already completed background to purchase ammo 1 time within the 30 day grace period. The other managers do and for me to call back tomorrow morning. If she’s the manager I’m that department how could she not have access to the systems. I called back a few mins later and when greeted from customer service once again I asked who are the managers that work in that department. Transferee me once again to another manager. Employee states the 3 of 4 names and said he couldn’t remember the others name. I feel their customer service, communication skills, people skills, professional skills isn’t up to Big 5 Standards and should he reprimanded and taken another training course in management skills. These definitely needs to be addressed immediately. This isn’t okay whatsoever.

Desired outcome: Highly disappointed, felt lied too. Not correct information.

Big 5 Sporting Goods Unprofessional sales employee

It was May 6 Friday night when I went into big five store number 131 to buy a couple under Armour shirts. There was a section that was clearly stating that the under Armour shirts below were on sale for 19.99 But upon me trying to buy that shirt a specific sales employee named Brenda told me that only a select few shirts on that rack were on sale and immediately started moving shirts around to make it look like it hadn’t been label incorrectly. The other employees were even telling her that it was okay but she started yelling “it’s not okay if I have to over ride a price”. It was at that moment that I recognized the signs of someone under the influence of alcohol. Her eyes were glazed and her words slurred together and she continued to yell at me even while I walked out of the store empty handed. I think this employee, Brenda, needs to learn proper customer etiquette and possibly even some Alcoholics Anonymous help. I will never go back to that store again.

Desired outcome: For this employee to be taught proper etiquette so this doesn’t happen to another customer again

Big 5 Sporting Goods Kicking me out for not wearing a face mask

I was asked to wear a fave mask or I couldn't be in store. Per online Covid-19 guidelines it says only those unvaxinated ate asked to wear a mask.. I was not asked about vaccination, just told I had to wear a mask or leave. There is no law in place, only guidelines. OSHA has changed its own initial policy regarding this and can only require employees to submit, not customers. I left after I asked the employee what the policy was and she said I had to wear a mask or leave.

Desired outcome: A legal understanding of actual stated policy regarding non employees being required to wear a mask or be barred from entering premises..And clear directives given employees what legally binding policy is.

Big 5 Sporting Goods Pittsburg,Ca Firearms sales dept

I recently purchased a shotgun at your Pittsburg, Ca Store at Century Plaza. After waiting the 10 days for mandatory background check I called on Tuesday 6/22 to pickup shotgun. I was told there would be no one available who was authorized to hand over my shotgun to me but I could pick it up Wed. 6/23/21 between 10 am to 12;30 pm, I think they said to see Melisa. I went in with all paperwork at 10:30 on 6/23 only to be told they would not be able to give me my shotgun till Friday 6/25 between the hours of 1pm to 4:30pm. She said they have to have 2 managers on duty to complete the transaction, I told her I had called the day before to confirm pickup she blew me off and said, there's nothing I can do. Maybe a simple sorry for the inconvenience would have been more appropriate even though now my plans of leaving early Friday morning to go duck hunting with my buddies is ruined.
