Audi's Certified Pre-Owned program is a joke, and their corporate handling of my case has been nothing short of disgraceful. I purchased a Certified Pre-Owned 2020 Audi Q5 in April 2022 from Audi Dominion, expecting the peace of mind that supposedly comes with Audi’s “premium” standards. Instead, I’ve been stuck with a mechanically defective vehicle and a corporate structure that hides behind silence and excuses.
The problems started immediately namely, serious oil consumption issues that Audi failed to fix despite repeated service visits and tests. Then in January 2025, my Q5 spent nearly three months in the shop. When it was finally returned to me, I was hopeful. But not even three weeks later, the same issues returned. As of April 25, 2025, my car is back in the shop, now with transmission or transfer case issues as well.
Audi Dominion has exhausted its technicians. The shop foreman had to get involved, yet no one can seem to explain why a so-called “Certified” Audi has spent more time in service than in my driveway.
And here’s where the corporate failure gets worse: Matthew Robinet, the regional representative assigned to this case, has been completely nonresponsive and utterly useless. Not a single call. Not an email. Nothing. His total silence is either intentional or incompetent neither of which is acceptable for someone in his position. It seems like his only role is to protect the brand from accountability rather than protect the customer from being ripped off.
Let’s be honest Audi allowed a defective vehicle to be certified and sold, then stood by and did nothing while it repeatedly failed. I’ve been told I don’t qualify for a buyback now because of the vehicle’s age and mileage. That’s corporate spin. The truth is Audi had multiple documented chances to resolve this while the car was fully under warranty, and they did nothing effective. Now they want to wash their hands of it.
This isn’t just poor service this is a systemic failure from the dealership, to Audi Corporate, to people like Matthew Robinet who clearly have no business in customer-facing roles. The Certified Pre-Owned program is being used as a shield to push defective vehicles onto trusting buyers, and when the problems hit? Audi goes silent and hides behind policy.
To anyone thinking of buying a Certified Pre-Owned Audi: Don’t. You’re gambling your money on a brand that clearly doesn't stand behind its vehicles or its customers. If my experience proves anything, it’s that Audi’s definition of "certified" means nothing and neither does their commitment to quality or accountability.
