My 90 year old father answered the door to a salesman from Aptiv Environmental. The man said the neighbors just signed up for the trial. That trial was one application for $29.95. He thought that wasn’t bad for a trial since he does occasionally get ants. The man never told him, that when my father signed the man’s phone, he was signing a contract. My mother had recently passed and I live 2-1/2 hours away. This was in April, 2025. My father didn’t have access to the bank account so he couldn’t check on outgoing payments. A guy came to the door in May wanting to do a treatment. My father said no, he was only doing the trial, which was done in April. The guy told my father that he had to cancel the contract. My father tried to no avail and that’s when he called me, his daughter. Upon investigation, they’ve been taking out $79 each month from May thru August. Then I find out there is a $200 cancellation fee. I spent three hours with this company switching me to different people. At one point they transferred me to Terminex. I finally got a lady I could actually understand and told her how a 90 year old doesn’t understand enough to ask the right questions. He just thought he was signing for the trial month. The nice customer service rep said she would put a note on the file as to the misunderstanding and he shouldn’t have to pay the cancellation fee. I was also told that to cancel it had to be from the phone number he gave. I had to travel to his house to try and cancel. I was speaking with several people from South Africa. They were very hard to understand. In the end, I spoke with a manager. He said he would cancel and charge the account $199 otherwise he would not cancel. So he did that and I asked for a cancellation number. He could not provide me with it. He said he would send it to the email on file. My father doesn’t even know how to work his cell phone let alone a computer with email. He has no email address. I asked again for the cancellation number or I offered my email address. He hung up on me. What kind of customer service hangs up on people. I called and started the process of waiting to speak with someone to make sure he canceled the account. I got someone that confirmed the cancellation and she gave me the cancellation number.
The reviews for this company from their FB page to the BBB are horrible. Why is this company still in business? Several lawsuits have been brought as well.
