Angi review: Never again

We saw what looked like mold in our Master Bath and adjoining closet. We don't know anything about mold and because of our age and physical problems, we did not want to take a chance. So, we looked up highly rated mold test companies in Angi. The 'Mold Test Company' came up first. We contacted them. And an inspector came over February 12, 2025.

This is a scamming company that takes advantage of older people. The inspector came over and did not discuss anything with us or tell us how to get in touch with him or the company. Said he couldn't talk to us until the lab did an analysis of the samples of air and one wall sample that he said he couldn't get a reading from. At 78 and 72, my wife and I know nothing about mold and did not want to take a chance on having mold in the master bath and adjoining closet. Also, I have pulmonary fibrosis. We live in Katy, Texas. The next thing that happened was I got an analysis in email from EMSL Analytical, Inc. in Orlando, FL. They called and I talked with them; after telling me I needed remediation, the person on the line sent me via a click to a company in Georgia named Biocide Laboratories. They said they were the nation's highest rated DIY remediation company and needed to send me DIY equipment at a price. My wife and I were alarmed and both in health conditions that require caution. We wanted to eliminate the mold in our home and the possibility of it growing. They send an invoice for $3530 saying they would send the equipment right away and talk me through using it which would be an easy DIY process. I paid the invoice. The equipment arrived a day later via FedEx. It was 10 boxes, only one of which I could lift. Their scam was complete. I had 10 boxes that I had paid for of what they said was DIY remediation equipment and could lift but one box (78 years old). And, no one contacted me on how to use the equipment. Plus, when I called the number on the invoice, I was told that they don't take equipment back or give refunds.

Mold Test Company is a front for a scam. BEWARE of this company. I called my insurance company and they wanted me to talk to an adjustor knowledgeable about mold. Talking to this person and sending pictures, he said just from the description I did not need remediation work. It was mildew and I needed to spray it with a mold and mildew remover and contact him in a couple of days. I sprayed the areas as he recommended. The next day the dark spots in the closet were gone and in a couple of days the spots were gone in the Bath. The spots have not reappeared. Angi sent me to this scamming company who is taking advantage of the lack of knowledge about mold that works interstate. I am calling the FBI on them. AND I GOT THEM FROM ANGI. BEWARE! OF USING ANGI TO GET COMPANIES TO WORK WITH. I will not go to Angi for any reason in the future.
