AmeriGas Propane Fraudulent Tank Fill and Overcharge

I am yet another victim of Amerigas fraudulently charging customers. In short, they charged me for propane I didn't actually receive. I was 25% full on a 500 gallon tank and was 85% full after they filled it per the gauge. I was billed for 70% fuel. They claimed to have filled the tank to 95% because of the cold temperature and stated my gauge might not reflect this. I have never had a problem with my gauge, but that was their excuse. The meter ticket had the wrong customer information on it to boot, which they also said happens from time to time. Amerigas would not make good in the matter. They are outright cons, and are the highest priced fuel company around additionally. Once my tank is empty I will have them remove it, and I would like to forewarn others of their fraudulent practices so they aren't similarly victimized. Now I see on the news that they have even been shorting 20lb grill gas bottles. Steer clear of this company.

I have worked in the LP gas Ind for more than twenty years.
And have worked for the majors like Great plains gas, National Propane, Witch was bought out by Columbia Propane, Witch was bought out by Amerigas, (don't work for them any more) And living in northern MI, Were in the winter we can have weeks on end with temps below zero deg. We NEVER fill our tank to more than85%. In the winter, And never more than 80% in the summer, If you fill a tank to 95% you are just asking for trouble, If the gauge on that tank is off by five percent, The driver just filled it liquid full, That was pure and simple driver error! Tanks should always be filled using the spitter/liquid level gauge on the service valve, Not by the percent gauge.

AmeriGas Propane Refund

I have recently decided to change propane supplyers. We have amerigas and I have always felt they were over charging us. My research shows that they charge at least one dollar more per gallon if not more than other LPG supplyers in my area. They are rude on the phone and act like they are the only one to get LPG from. Its take it or leave it. IT took a couple of years but now my most better half agrees with me. Now amerigas refuses to refund our credit of $33.00. I am disabled but that does not matter to them.

AmeriGas Propane - overcharging the public

I had switched to AmeriGas in the end of October 2008, I got my 250 gallon tank around the 7th of November. When I called to get it filled, the office lady told me that it would be about $560.00 since I was getting a new customer $1.999 a gallon first fill special. I was shocked at the amount.I asked her how she came up with that price, she then told me that...

AmeriGas Propane LACK OF SERIVCE

February 18, 2009

Sirs or Madam,

My name is Christina Scripture. I reside in Pennsylvania and by default am a unfortunate customer
of yours.
I am writing this because I have spent 4 consecutive sleepless nights due to being held hostage by
your company, Amerigas.
I moved from Maryland where I received my heat in the form of natural gas. I bring this up only because I had no clue the inconvenience, expense and amount of propane that is needed to heat a home.
My oven is propane, my dryer is propane, my hot water heater is propane and my heat is propane.
Now, the family who sold the home to me was a family of 6( 4 children and 2 adults). My family consists of 2 adults and 1 child. We keep the temperature at 65 degrees. In the disclosure of the
home I was advised that my propane costs would be approx 1000.00 a year. Now, I bring all of this up so as to explain why I assumed that 200 gallons of fuel would last a few months. So, I in turn did
not check my propane level on a daily basis.
I had the tank filled with 200 gallons of propane on January 06, 2009.
I went to use my oven on Friday, February 13th and noticed that the flame from the burner was very
low even though I had it on high. So, I ran outside to check the propane tank. I couldn't even see
the needle. So I called my boyfriend and asked him to call the Amerigas office. I asked him to call
because my previous experiences with them have left me exasperated. He called them and received their emergency hotline ( the main office was closed). He explained we had no propane and they said that they would have someone call us on Monday about this. It is February 13th in the dead of winter and we have no propane now! He called me to let me know this I asked him to please call again. There has to be some kind of emergency relief. I can't believe that a company that has the responsibility of providing fuel to heat would not have some kind of emergency plan to fall back on. So, he called again and got the same response. So, I called. I started to receive the same response at that time, faced with the reality that my family was going to be cold for the whole weekend I then told them I could smell a gas leak and I was willing to pay whatever I needed to to get someone out there. At that point she took my number and had someone call me. About and hour and a half there was a technician at my home and brought 44 gallons of propane.
So, at 8:00am Monday morning I called the Amerigas office in Maryland that services my part of
Pa. and advised them of my situation. The robot on the phone took my credit card number and charged me 530.15 for 200 more gallons of fuel and then was told 7-10 business days it would be delivered!
7-10 business days are you kidding me? Do these people have families? Do these people have beating hearts?
It is now February 18th, we are now taking cold showers. The needle on the propane tank is buried again. I am stressed beyond measure.
We live in the year 2009 and my family is living like this?
She sure didn't take 7-10 business days to collect the 530.15!
So, I have called around to switch companies and I am being told that I have to have your tank removed from the land before they will bring another tank. Ok. I call the ever so warm and compassionate Audrey at Amerigas so that they will come pick up their tank I want to sever all ties with your company.
She then tells me it is my responsibility to have it dug up. Ok, let me understand this horrible situation
your unwanted property is buried on my land, you will not remove it, you will not sell it to me and I cant get you to fill the damn thing so we don't freeze. Wow!
So, here I sit at work depressed, worried, and completely helpless unless THE MIGHTY AMERIGAS decides to bestow some propane on me today.

So, with this I want to let you know I work with the public. I work in customer service. I will be
shouting from the mountain top about my experience. I will be posting this all over the internet.. If I could I would be camped out at your office, but I have to work so that I can pay for propane and hope it gets delivered within 7-10 business days.

Your held by hostage customer,
Christina A. Scripture

Another dissatisfied customer here. They have knowingly left this family without heat for THREE days. They have promised delivery on two separate occasions. They are taking advantage of the situation because we cannot get the tanks filled elsewhere. Consumers beware they do not honor promises mentioned on their website like being there when needed and excellent customer service.. They have been paid for propane they have not delivered!

I've also had an extremely difficult time getting any kind of communication with the distributor in White Hall, MD. Their office number is always busy and they never return phone messages. I'm supposed to be on automatic delivery but they have let me run out several times. Currently we're facing a winter storm with at least half a foot of snow and I'm on empty. Very dissappointed with the level of service from this company!

AmeriGas Propane 35 Deg. / 5 days no heat. Gas turned off!!!

Almost $2000 for a tank of propane.

Had a verbal agreement and been making payments.

Never got an overdue or termination notice.

Last check was mailed to them on Sept26.

I received a new statement the first week in Oct.

Oct.10 I received my first termination notice ever.It was dated a week prior(Oct3rd).

It said the balance had to be paid in full or service would be terminated on Oct.31st.

**They shut the gas off on the 15th**

The lady at the gas company(Katrina) said it didn't matter what the notice said.

**It was their equipment and they could turn it off when ever they felt like it(now thats customer service)**

I made another payment that day to get my gas turned back on.

The gas company is about 10-15min away but they can't get anyone out here.

I had family here from out of town. They had to leave.(No hot water or heat)

My landlords are mad because that extra payment I had to pay came from my rent money.

My wife called to on Friday to see when they would be out.

She spoke w/Katrina!

Katrina said it would be next week sometime.

My wife told her we had no hot water or heat and that they were calling for a frost at night.

She said for $150service fee she could get out here today.

I dont have another $150.

I dont even have the extra money to go out and buy an electric heater.

I'm sure Katrina is nice and cozy at her desk though!

They cancelled me, no letter or anything! Just no propane one day, called and they said I was cancelled! Had to pay up front, asked if I could pay 200.00 worth and they said No, it would be a full tank plus 200.00 emergency fee! I told them to come get their tank and they stated that it would be a $60.00 fee for early termination! Termination of what? I never signed any agreement! Can't switch companies until they pick up their tank! Told them I was going to charge them $60.00 a day for use of my property for storage of their tank! They said it could be 30 to 90 days before removal of tank, what am I supposed to do in the meantime? I need to place a new tank where theirs is sitting!

AmeriGas Propane Overcharged

When I switched to amerigas at a very small cottage I was renting they replaced my 150 gallon tank with a 500 gallon tank. I told there driver this was way more gas than I usually get but he set the tank anyway. There is no doubt that the valves on the tank were leaking gas, the odor is unmistakable, I reported leaks and they were never fixed. I was on a c.o.d. plan and after I did not call to have tank filled for about 9 months (I started heating with electric heaters) they sent me a bill for 125.00 for tank rental fees.

Amerigas won't show up to fill our tank, waiting 5 weeks and NO communication.
They are price gouging, the local company, Ed Staub and Sons are charging $2:15 per gallon delivered. Amerigas is charging $4:50 plus per gallon.

I have had service if you can call it that for the past 9 months they have charged for emergency service when I was told they would not due to the fact that there was a leak in the regulator and it needed to be replaced, by the way it was never fixed. They have over charged for the deliveries I have sent letters and called and no one bothers to even look into it. The customer service is non-existant. We should get together and see if we can find an attorney who will file a class action lawsuit.
