Subscription free trial
I received a free trial for 14 days at America's Test Kitchen, Country Cooks and another online cooking recipe subscription. I emailed them 13 days out to cancel. on day 14 my credit card was charged$49.95, all the phone numbers for them do not connect me to customer service. I'm not sure how to resolve this issue. I want my credit card to be credited back and I want to verbally cancel over the phone with a customer service representative. Thank you
Desired outcome: Refund on, for subscription, I canceled via email 1 day prior to free trail ending
Adam’s misogyny
I buy each season on Amazon so I can support the show, I was happy when CK left, (although sad Dan Souza didn't go with him since he is basically a little mini CK.) I luv the new addition of Ellie and Lam and glad there is more Brian and Keith, but on this weeks episode (S20, Ep21) Adam told Julia "put that knife down - you're scaring me". Really? - wake up Adam - you are going to disrespect Julia like that? So gross, and a sign that he needs to either shut up, be replaced, or maybe take a class. That was a real turn off and will have me just fast-forwarding through his segments. I was shocked particularly on this show when it is always just supposed to be about the cooking, his lame attempt at humor that questions a great female chef sickened me. Editors should have cut this out, I expect better of ATK!
subscription
They offer a free two week subscription and present the subscription as costing $4.18 a month after that but charge the whole $49.95 and refuse to refund any of it if you cancel even 15 days later. I subscribed for the free period on dec 24 2018 and cancelled on jan 10 2019. I assumed based on the sales pitch that I would be charged monthly so the charges would stop. When I cancelled there was no mention that I had already been charged almost $50 and would not get a refund. When I realized what had happened I called back and two reps and two supervisors stonewalled and blamed me for not reading the conditions (which they know no one reads).
It is obvious that their business practices are a fraudulent scam designed to get people's money they do not realize they are being charged and not return it.

subscription memberships
I purchased a subscription membership thinking I was getting access to many recipes. They market heavily and email recipes. I also go to their website to search for recipes. However, I'm each of these cases, the recipes I want to access, 9 times out of 10, require me to upgrade my membership. This is false advertising as well as a bait and switch racket.
I watched a couple of episodes of America's Test Kitchen on my local PBS station. They mentioned going to americastestkitchen.com for more information and recipes. I entered my email address and now I am being bombarded by their emails. There is NO workable unsubscribe link, The unsubscribe link takes you to a page where you can sign up for more emails. There is nothing on the page about unsubscribing. You have to login to your account to manage your preferences. I don't have an account with them. This stinks and is likely against the law.
wrong product received, unwilling to make it right.
I ordered the 2017 Annual hardcover book for my fiancé for this Christmas at the beginning of December, which was within the regulated shipping allotted time to receive it before Christmas. On December 19th I received the package, only to my shock that it was a copy of "Cooking for two" magazine and the order form had the wrong name and address in it. Upon my first encounter with ATK customer service the woman was sympathetic and willing to look into getting it Expressed shipped as I live in Canada as this was an extremely important Christmas gift and after all the company messed up and with standard shipping I clearly would not be receiving it before Christmas. As the supervisors had all gone home for the day and I was reassured it would be made right and that I would receive a call the following morning from this representative. I never heard back and when I called back the next day I was informed that they would be reimbursing me $7.95 for shipping and handling and receiving a free digital download of some sort. While I have already had to pay $11.73 for duty for a magazine I didn't order and will have to pay it again when my actual item comes in. As the supervisors were much to busy to speak with a loyal customer, they agreed to refund me the price of the book. I understand that some people would be happy with this, but frankly I am not. I don't want the extra things, because they don't make up for the fact that the company messed up and that my fiance will not have a gift to open on Christmas, after an exceptionally hard year. The only thing I asked ATK was to express my package as there are 4 days left until Christmas and that would be the only way it would have a chance of getting here, but no. Apparently they do not ship express to Canada under any circumstances. I would like to also point out that during all this I remained polite and calm and treated your customer service agents with respect, and sadly the ole mighty dollar wins again versus remembering that your customers are people with families just like you and not just paying your wages. Next time, offer to ship express especially around Christmas, even if it doesn't make it in time, it will show you at least tried rather than just trying to make it right by giving away "free stuff" because frankly I wasn't looking for freebies, I just wanted to see a smile on my fiancé's face come Christmas morning when he opened up this book.
the show itself
I've always liked the two girls that are kind of running it but when they were cooking not talking to each other you need to bring Christopher Kimball back because this show has gone very very very downhill it's not even worth watching my 14 year old daughter is so upset she cried it's terrible uninteresting without him you might as well go off of the air it's just horrible I'm sorry
annual cookbook
I haven't subscribed to Cook's Country Magazine for several years. Despite that, I continue to receive an annual notice that I will automatically be sent their annual cookbook. I don't want it. I haven't asked for it. In order to decline it, I have to mail their postcard back to them. I've done that and despite my effort, I still rec'd the cookbook and later warning invoices that my account will go to collections if I don't pay for it. WTF? Again, this year, I just rec'd the notice that the book was going to be shipped. I'll be mailing the dang postcard back to them once again but in order to stop receiving the postcard, I have to log into their Website and register? I attempted to do that but got to a page that said "it no longer existed." This is such a scam. Do not purchase Cooks or Cooks Country magazines unless you want to be on the hook with them into eternity. So ticked off with them.
cookbook order
Customer number [protected] Order number: [protected] Background: Ordered 3 cookbooks December 9th. Received shipping confirmation December 11th; charged my credit card December 12th. On December 28th I called to complain the books never arrived. Called January 5. They claimed they re-shipped them January 5th, and they would arrive in 2-3 WEEKS!!! The kicker...

Deceptive business practices and poor customer service. While trying to clear up incorrect billing for services not used was told America's Test Kitchen wasn't the website I signed up for services on. This at the same time the charges hit my credit card bill labelled ATK.com and the customer service rep even had a @americastestkitchen.com email address!

unethical business practices
I agree with others on this board. Complete unethical business practices. I have tried numerous attempts to cancel all products (magazines, web subscription etc) some of which I have no idea how they got started. They automatically deduct charges from my debit card and then leave no possible way to get back to them to cancel. Phone says they 'don't have capacity to accept calls'... and no email address to return or inquire about a charge.
I am fed up and will be seeking help from my bank in going after them. sad.

received & charged for book not ordered
In 2009 I ordered a Cookbook from America's Test Kitchen (not a subscription). I have just received the second unordered / unwanted cookbook. With the book was an invoice for $29.95, also stating "I am to return by UPS or insured parcel post (sorry, we cannot be responsible) and Pay Postage (Sorry, we cannot accept C.O.D.)". So, essentially, I receive an unsolicited book, and am expected to pay return postage. Also, their web sight does not offer a place to contact them directly to register a complaint, or ask them how to return the book on their dime. I am currently undergoing chemotherapy treatment, and do not have the energy or desire to deal with a problem they inflicted on me.
This is still going on in 2022. I came home from vacation and found a package that had been rained on. I opened it up and saw an American Test Kitchen Air Fryer cookbook that I had not ordered, along with an invoice for $25.45. I laughed when I saw invoice #1000 and payment due 22-Jul-22 7:05:15am. Yeah, right.
I googled "American Test Kitchen scam" and found this site.
The good news is I called the number on the back of the invoice, [protected], and said that I did not order the book. The lady took care of it and said I did not have to return the invoice or the book.
unwanted material
Unwanted books. Keeps sending books that I do not want. Informed them to NOT SEND any more books. I paid for 2 orders that was sent but had informed them to not send anymore as I would not pay for anymore books. Sent anyhow! I refused to send back or pay them anymore after informing them twice.
I think when they say if you want to get a copy of a recipe at the end of the show just go to americastestkitchens.com what they fail to say you must join them and pay. So much for public TV.
charge was$39.95
I would like a refund please
I would send this unwanted book back be I don't have the address or box.
America's test kitchen is a scam! Do not ever buy anything from them or you to will forever be getting thier unsolicited books and bills!
I have the same problem. I ordered something from them, and now they send me their "annual" issue every year, even though I send them back and say DO NOT SEND ANY MORE but they do it anyway. I just got another one this week. What can I do about this? I won't keep something I didn't pay for, even if I didn't request it -- but I'm really tempted to just give it to Goodwill! Any suggestions?
unethical business practices
For years I have received America's Test Kitchen cookbooks. This past year, I started receiving overdue notices for books I either never ordered or had yet to receive. This happened most recently with their 2010 Annual recipes. My "2nd notice" overdue came before the book (which actually arrived a full week later). I sent my payment with what I freely admit was a nasty note asking them to remove me from their mailing list and complaining that this was not the first time this had happened. Last year, according to their customer service rep, everyone who ordered one of their books received the "2nd overdue notice" when nothing had been mailed. The evidently have too few people to deal with all these complaints--wait time to get through averages 5-10 minutes, regardless of the day or time you call. This is a company to avoid.

I had the same experience with ATK - I thought I was supporting a noble public television cause, only to be treated in the same way record clubs of the 70's & 80's treated their members by stealing their money with unethical business practices. It seems that after they hired Jack Bishop as CEO the organization began operating in this unethical manor just as many American corporations do - treat your loyal members like cattle to be milked because they believe they can get away with it - and they did and DO STILL. I just realized I had been being billed $19.95/mo for over a year for a "cooking class" that I didn't even know existed, much less signed up for. They "can only refund 2 months" so Jack Bishop was able to help fund his salary with over $200 stolen from me, and I'm sure thousands, if not hundreds of thousands of people have had this same experience. It seems strange that a car thief goes to jail for stealing a car worth only a few thousand, but Jack Bishop can steal millions and there is no recourse, no punishment, not even a reprimand.
I don't understand why an organization as noble as PBS would allow them to do this to the American public. I will never again support PBS, since they are complacent to this behavior.

Copy of letter I wrote to Americas Test Kitchen regarding what I view as fraudulent/unethical business practices:
Today I received a Cook's Illustrated 2017 recipe book in the mail. I did not order any merchandise from you, so I called customer service to inquire. I was told that I received this book because I was placed on automatic renewal from last year's order.
Last year I did receive the 2016 & 2015 cook books from you when I was solicited by phone from ATK's fundraising event to help keep the t.v. show on PBS. Being a viewer and fan of the show, I made what was a suggested DONATION for the 2016 cook book and by making the DONATION on that day by credit card, I was gifted the 2015 book too. To reiterated, I did not outright purchase anything and was under no understanding that I would be enrolled on an automatic shipment and payment schedule.
Customer service has rectified this for me and I will be returning the book and getting refunded, however, I want to express my extreme displeasure with your marketing gimmicks that hooked me into this. Here I was under the impression that I was making a kind gesture of donating to a financially failing t.v. program to help keep running, meanwhile I was fooled into making a subscription purchase.
I didn't mind the $19.95 for ATK and CC when it first came online, or the bump up to $29.95, or even the bigger bump up to $39.95 in the early 2010's. But $69.95! For a great big bundle I don't want! I don't know if they know this, but you can find every recipe online anyway...for free. And I remembered receiving 1st notices, 2nd notices, and the barrage of "last notices"(which was a lie, because they kept on coming for over 8 months!) for a subscription to Cooks Country Magazine that had expired. They couldn't auto-bill me because the credit card's number changed. They hounded me for months! I don't want to do business with them anymore. If I want the magazines and cookbooks...I will go to a clearing house and order them.
This is the second time this company has sent an unordered publication.
About a year ago, I ordered a cookbook from America's Test Kitchen. It arrived and I thought nothing more about it. About two months ago, I received a notice in the mail that I would soon receive another cookbook, although I had not ordered one. I though nothing more about it until a few weeks ago when I received a large package from ATK. Since I did not order it, I took it to the post office and noted "Return to Sender." Although something received which has not been ordered may be treated as a gift, I did not want future hassles. Today I received a "2D NOTICE, " although I did not receive a first notice! I phoned the number on the notice and heard a recording telling me to disregard this notice and that my return was being processed. Although I'm not going to have to pay for that book, this has been a real time waster. ATK is beginning to sound like a real flaky company. and no pun intended. I will also write PBS, which carries their program about this.
I recently received a "Best of...2014" cookbook, with an invoice for $24.85. I knew I had not ordered the book, so I tried to contact ATK. There was no contact info anywhere on the invoice. I went online - no contact info on their website either. I took a guess and sent an email to "support@americastestkitchen.com". I received a quick response - I had "signed up" a year earlier for a cookbook series when I purchased one book. I don't remember seeing this anywhere in the fine print. The information emailed me by ATK stated that they would send out a postcard prior to sending any cookbook (they did not) and that I had a 45 day free review of any cookbook received and that I could return the book and ATK would pay the postage. That was not stated anywhere on the invoice, either. ATK initially told me that I would have to pay to return the cookbook - until I quoted its "terms and conditions". Service rep then agreed to send me a postage-paid return envelope. I did a quick search online and found scores of similar complaints. I then contact ATK support again and told them that I was not going to spend my time and energy returning something I did not order. I quoted postal service regulations that stated I could keep or dispose of items that were mailed that I had not ordered. I then told the rep that I was going to file a complaint with the FTC and BBB of MA. I did both (they are both online and very quick/easy). I had a response from the BBB in less than 24 hours. ATK again quoted the terms and conditions to which I had "agreed", but "generously" offered to waive the payment, remove me from my "cookbook subscription" and allow me to keep the cookbook as a gesture of good faith. Needless to say, I will NEVER order anything from ATK or Cook's Illustrated ever again. These business practices are fraud at worst, gross deception at best.
I posted a complaint here. I like to respond to problems by email. I usually don't call. But none of the email addresses worked. So my wife's caregiver called. A very polite young man said they had some site problems. He closed my account and is refunding the 12.45 I had to paid to return the book because I had opened the package. The label they include in the book is not prepaid. If you just write refused without opening it, then you will not pay postage, but you may still have a problem of them billing you. My payment is pending the return of the book. Who knows what is next. I recommend you call the 800 number. John
John, I called and complained about receiving an unsolicited book, and I insisted on talking with a supervisor. She told me I could print a return label and I insisted that I did not want to go through that trouble and then have to take MY time to return the book to the post office. She finally agreed that I did not have to return the book and I would not be charged with it. I will donate it to my local library and I will NEVER do business with America's Test Kitchen again. Good luck to you.
I received the 2014 version of their book which I did not order. I ordered some years ago but not recently. They included an invoice in the book along with a product return label. I went to the post office to return the book with their label. I was charged 12.45 to return the book. I asked the post office about a law I heard about saying that you don't have return unsolicited merchandise. The clerk said I would have to pay for the book if I kept it. So I returned it. But I'm out $12.45. I tried to email them several different ways including their form. Nothing worked. How do you contact these people? Would I have any chance on getting my money back? John
I ordered some merchandise in 2013 as a Christmas gift and THIS YEAR I received an unsolicited cookbook with a bill attached! This is a TERRIBLE business practice! When I called to complain, I was told that I agreed to this in the "terms and conditions" when I ordered LAST year! They clearly do NOT want MY business again!
