We booked a round trip for 3 to Italy on January 26, 2023 and purchased XCover insurance through booking.com. In February we found out we were expecting a baby. We had no issues traveling after finding out about the pregnancy. Just recently I found out that I have a high risk pregnancy complication and was advised by my doctor not to travel.

We went to put a claim on the XCover website and one of the documents needed to start a claim was the cancellation confirmation so we called booking.com to cancel. After sending all the required information to XCover it took a few days to tell us through email that they needed to know when the onset of complications started. After sending a new Dr. note with the required information, we kept receiving the same email and there is no way to contact a person. When you call the number to contact them there is a recording saying they have no phone service team.

They finally got back to us in an email saying that our claim was denied because my pregnancy complication did not put me in the hospital. I’m the email we’re all the pregnancy related complications that are covered and it said that it was in the wording of our policy.

I looked back and no where in our policy or terms and conditions does it say specifically what is and is not covered medically.

This is a total scam. I cannot put my baby’s life or my own in danger when I am specifically told by a medical professional not to travel. I am trying not to end up in the hospital and what XCover is telling me is that I am not covered unless I am in the hospital. This company takes advantage by not giving all the details of your policy and telling you after they deny you what is actually covered.

Also, if there was any indication that we wouldn’t be covered for this I would have postponed my trip instead of cancelling and now it’s too late.

Desired outcome: I would like my claim to be accepted and be refunded for my trip.
