Cashier Tiffany requested cashier back-up/help over the intercom. Her line had about 8+ people in it, as the store was quite busy, and she was the only cashier. I was in the store around 20 minutes and this was the only time she asked for help.
In the aisle over from me, I heard in a very loud and angry voice, "Oh my God, Tiffany, again!?" I felt the outburst was very unprofessional. I figured it was just another inappropriate employee. When I went toward the cashiers, Tina was there yelling, and I mean yelling, "Where's the back-up Tina?! Huh?! Where's the back-up?!" She was standing at the back of Tiffany's line. Tina couldn't even get to her because of extended line of customers. Tina did cash out a few customers but I heard her say " Go to lane 4".
I tried to have Tina cash me out and she also told me "Go to lane 4, I'm closing". After Tiffany cashed me out I asked her if she spoke to her like this often. Tiffany said "Sometimes". She could have lied and said 'all the time'. I asked Tina if she yelled at, belittled and humiliated her employees like this all the time especially in front of a store full of customers and she replied "not always but she keeps bugging me every 5 minutes!" This tells me that this behavior is a common practice in how she mistreats employees.
I told Tina I was dumfounded as to why she felt this was appropriate for a manager to behave in this fashion and she should be ashamed of herself as an adult. I was furious, disgusted, nauseated and generally appalled at how Tiffany was treated. I felt sorry and sad for her to have to put up with this treatment in front of 25+ strangers. And all through this Tiffany was polite, efficient and a true professional.
My opinion:
1. FIRE TINA
2. Promote Tiffany to a position to teach idiots like Tina, how to treat their employees, as well as conflict resolution. Respected staff are more productive, punctual, happy and loyal. I think she would be really good at it. She clearly demonstrates immense composure in a very stressful situation and shows great professionalism with unpredictable behaviors.
Things like this don't usually bother me, as I figure that person is just an ignorant jerk, but this was just too much!
I hope you have policies in place to dealt with staff like this. I have a feeling this will not be the first complaint about Tina, but I hope it is the last.
