Home Depot - Not honoring return policies and causing emotional distress.

I went to Home Depot in Manteca California on 4/5/2022 at approximately 5pm to 6pm. I was returning a gallon of paint that I purchased from Home Depot in Stockton California where I reside. The lady associate immediately tells me that they DO NOT return paint that’s colored. I told her I’ve done it once before with no problems at all because it was not the correct shade. She then informed me that it was an old policy and they no longer have that policy. They also have signs posted outside that they DO NOT return paint. The lady said, ‘I’m a manager I would know.” I left the return area to pull up the web site because it clearly states on the bottom that I’m able to bring back the paint for another paint if I am unsatisfied. I returned to the same lady and showed her the policy on their website. I said, ‘it says here that if I’m unsatisfied I can return it for another shade within 30 days, are you refusing to honor this?” The lady associate said “well let me get the manager Carlos to see if he can do anything about this.” I asked her why she needed a manager when she told me she is a manager? Turns out she is a department supervisor and NOT a manager. She then puts the page on speaker and tells Carlos that there is a lady here trying to return colored paint. Can you come to the return area. The Manager Carlos replied (ON SPEAKER) “Ok, I think I know who it is. I’ll be right there.” I’m extremely offended and immediately felt my anxiety building up because this was the first time returning anything at this store. I felt judged and belittled. When Carlos arrived, he continued to ramble on about his work history in the paint department and then suggested I go to the Home Depot I purchased the paint from and I have no need to come to the home depot in Manteca since I live in Stockton. I said, “I came to Manteca because I live on the outskirts of Stockton so I knew there would be less traffic.” At this point I was so overwhelmed and my voice started shaking. It was the beginning of my severe panic attack. I left the hostile environment and ran to my husband, luckily he was approaching the return exit line. I fell in his arms and started hyperventilating and crying uncontrollably then I blacked out. I came to, in my car and let my husband handle the paint exchange. But even after all that the Manager Carlos refused to properly exchange the paint. He told the cashier to tell my husband that he does not need a receipt, just take the new paint. So, if they mess up on the new paint, I can’t even prove that they gave me this paint can. This is unacceptable.

I'm glad you're doing okay after blacking out and, just about, becoming comatose during your attempted return.

Per Home Depot's policy:

Paint Satisfaction Guarantee Policy: If you are not satisfied with your interior or exterior liquid paint purchase, bring your paint and receipt back to the store within 30 days of purchase. We will make it right by correcting your paint or giving you a comparable can of paint. We reserve the right to limit guarantee at our discretion in the event of suspected fraud or abuse.

In the future you may want to confirm any business you're purchasing from has defibrillation equipment - just in case this scenario should repeat itself.
