I visited BioLife a few weeks ago to see about starting to donate. After I went through the questionnaire, health assessment and interview, I was deffered because I have Biopolar II. I was told I couldn't donate until I had my psychiatrist fill out a form clearing me to donate. I went throught their required process and a few days after the form was faxed to them, I received a call. They told me that because I joked about not telling them about my bipolar during the interview process that I still couldn't donate. So I wasted over an hour at their office and wasted my psychiatrist's time sending in a form. I was still denied because of a joke I said during the interview.
I called to speak to one of their managers. She told me that I was deemed "unreliable" due to my joke during the interview. One, bipolar shouldn't have anything to do with donating plasma. Two, they have a list of my medications and the form from my doctor indicating I'm ok to donate. How can a joke overrule having records from my psychiatrist? Also, this joke was told during the interview. Why didn't they tell me then that I wasn't going to be allowed to donate?
There is nothing on their web site about this. I was never told during the interview that I needed to be careful of what I said. They have wasted my time and wasted my psychiatrist's time. They talk about needing the plasma so badly, but they just turned away a healthy person because of a joke.
Don't waste your time with them. I went through a lot of effort only to be denied because of a joke.
Desired outcome: Warn others about this horrible company.
