SSM Health review: Dont

Absolutely unacceptable experience, deceptive billing practices and zero transparency.

I visited SSM Health Urgent Care on 04/04, expecting exactly that. Urgent care, not an emergency room. However, when I received the bill, I was shocked to see that I was charged as if I went to the ER, with pricing to match. My bill also didn’t align with what my insurance showed, raising even more red flags.

When I contacted them to address the issue, I was told that because they’re affiliated with a hospital, they can bill you as ER—even if you went to urgent care. No signage, no warning, no communication. Just surprise billing that takes advantage of patients.

To make matters worse, they billed me as if I was seen by a doctor, but I was actually seen by a nurse practitioner. When I brought this up, I was told “it’s the same thing.” It’s not. Patients deserve transparency and honest billing, and this is pure misrepresentation.

I will never return to any SSM Health facility, and I strongly urge others to think twice before trusting them with your care—or your wallet. This experience felt predatory and dishonest, and it’s unacceptable in a system already difficult to navigate
