Singapore General Hospital Service - rejected visitation

Hi

I was at SGH at around 11am on 30 July2023 to visit a child hood friend who had a nasal cancer surgery.

My visitation was rejected by the ward 66 nurses. They want me to abide the hospital's visitation policy.

I understand and spoke to the nurse from ward 66 and requested for a 10mins grace to see the patient. I explained to the nurse that I have this out of time normal visitation hour visit with the reason that I need to visit my mother in another hospital which is at Jurong East NTFH.

BUT the nurse rejected my 10mins visitation.

This triggers my dissatisfaction.

I wish that SGH to review and educate the nurses to be more compassionate and kind with dealing with visitors.

If in the Government Hospital, the public/visitors cannot experience any compassion and kindness, what more can we expect this society to become?

I only asked for a 10mins grace and I need to rush to another hospital, yet the nurse from ward 66 just simply rejected.

Where is the compassion and flexibility?

SGH please kindly look into this.

Tan Lay Koon

[protected]

Desired outcome: A10min visitation

Singapore General Hospital Hospital Bill discrepancies and acquired Injury during Hospitalisation

I was admitted at Singapore General Hospital from 14 June- 16 June 2023. I do not find my Investigations (Laboratory and Xray) amount justifiable. I was billed $4794.16 for this and I am not really happy with this amount. Is it because I am a foreigner who happened to be in transit in the country and acquired some illness during the transit. Moreover, I have arrived already in New Zealand and where are the results of my blood culture that interns practiced on me? They took 2x of my blood sample for blood culture and there are no results passed on yet. Because of all this Investigations, I am injured during these process. Interns are taking turns to take blood sample where instead of doing the process quickly, it took more than 3 times before they can draw blood. Using me as practice for unexperienced Interns resulted to such skin and vein injury. Up until now, Both my arms are heavily bruised from these. And, I would like to complain about this injuries.

Desired outcome: - Justify the Investigation fees (fair amount)- what needs to be done with the Injuries acquired during hospitalisation

Singapore General Hospital Uncaring, cold-hearted doctor with no compassion

Been doing my annual US and consultation in SGH (O&G) for the past few years.

So as usual, on 20.02.2023, went for the annual US, followed by Dr’s consultation on the results.

As I was also not feeling well on tht particular day, so informed this doctor. But was met with a blunt reply “Go see GP”. I was dumbfounded by her blunt reply.

As if this not enuff, she “removed” me from subsequent checkup within O&G.

Gave instructions for subsequent US to be done at another block (not O&G). US date given but no instruction given for consultation date.

Isnt this Doctor too much? Is this the correct attitude of a doctor to a patient? From ignoring my pain when I informed her abt it, followed by her blunt reply, followed by “removing” me from O&G for my subsequent annual checkup and consultation.

Why is this particular doctor so arrogant, aloof, made of stone, devoid of feelings, uncaring and without compassion at all.

I wrote to SGH on the above issues I faced.

Waiting to see if there is fairness and transparency from them on handling these issues that I have been subjected to.

Singapore General Hospital Service rendered at the observation station

My mom had a fall on her stay at the observation ward today . I believe the staff took it lightly because when I ask the staff at the counter at the observation centre she replied like it was a small staff. The question is whey do the staff left my mom attended when she is already at fall precautions tag. I’ll would like to have the detail incident report on this as I assume they are no relevant party whom like to investigate or resolve the issue of under performing work standards.

Desired outcome: I want a reply on this email

Singapore General Hospital Response to enquiry about appointment at gastroenterology diagnostic radiology

The staff who replied is very unprofessional. In my query, I asked the possibility of changing my Feb-07 ultrasound scanning appointment to morning slot rather than late afternoon 4:10pm slot since I need to fast and also need to do blood test at blood lab (OR) the indicated time that I must stop taking foods and water for require fasting before procedure if appointment is not possible to change as requested. The replying staff took 6days to reply to me to say that I can only keep that appointment time slot or do it in April and without answering my enquiry about fasting time for the case when appointment slot cannot be changed.

I felt that I was treated like low class people begging for free service, and it is very obvious that the response to my enquiry/ request was given without carefully checking background medical history of patient. The implication here is that I must see GD specialist in two-weeks time after this appointment to get prescription for my medicine that I must take daily without skipping days in-between for next 12 months. I have been taking this prescribed medicine for 10 years and I cannot stop or skip for a few days (not to mention about skipping for almost 2months) since there is possibility of serious medical implication arising from stopping/ skipping the medicine without instruction by GD specialist. By postponing appointment until April from Feb is as good as saying I must skip my medicine for almost 2 months since I can't get my prescription to buy my medicine in time.

It is appalling for SGH to provide such sub-standard service to patient when there are many superficial talking about good customer care and best world class healthcare service. In current times when patient medical history is readily available in healthcare data system, it is unacceptable for a healthcare staff to show "don't care attitude" to patient (since they consider this is not their problem) without showing due respect to their professionalism.

Desired outcome: Please call my contact number as I want to fully understand why that particular staff acted in this manner of negligence with utterly don't-care attitude.

Singapore General Hospital This employee called Ms Mok

She works at block 6 and 7 counter. At first I went to talk to Alice about how to enter then Ms Mok went to interrupt me and told Alice not to let me in. I had arrived at 1:30 and they made me wait for half an hour and Ms Mok had the audacity to kick me out and told Alice to call the nurse and cause trouble, but other visitors were allowed to enter even though it wasn’t visiting hours. I view this as unjust treatment even though I haven’t done anything wrong this happened on 19 December

Desired outcome: I would your department to keep an eye on Ms Mok and make sure this does not happen again

Singapore General Hospital Protocol towards genuine emergency patients

On mid of Sept 2022, I book an appt with their so-called specialist for Orthopaedia as I am having a bad swollen thigh and lower limbs. But their doctor is so unprofessional to not detecting and notice there is a seriousness signs of my case but only give me pills to release more fluid from my body thru pee and ask me to go home with another week to review. Situation went bad as I can't even walk properly as the swell goes worsen...so I walk in to their Emergency unit in mid night hours, ***(despite knowing my review is just in d next day morning 920am) I waiting there for almost 2hrs before the consultation and the worse part is the doctor can tell me that is nothing he can do for me no matter is due to my case or giving me a bed space as I was told the whole hospital bed space is fully taken up and I was in the waiting list of number 72! I was so fed up and dig at the doctor by saying what a joke?! SGH is so-call the biggest hospital with full facilities in SG with zero bed space for me?! He even told me that actually I should endure til next day as I got an appt ahead just a few hrs later. I told him if wasn't d pain I m in...I wouldn't walk in their Emergency unit. FINE I WENT OFF with disappointment and pain. Next day I turn up for the specialist appt...I tot is was going to be a review and follow-up...until I met the doctor then I know they put me under new case...I told them this is a case review and I need immediate medical attention and put me in observation ward as I know my case can't drag any further otherwise [censored] might happens...but they told me in order to put me ward admission they need to go thru the seriousness of my case by MRI scan report then I told them to go ahead with the scan...but the joke part is I gotto wait for the appt date of MRI scan as too many patients on waiting list...they gotto check and get back with me only on either later afternoon or next day! And I was told the whole SGH got only 2 MRI machine! I was thinking what kind of hospital is this?! Let's cut in short, in the end I went over to Mt Elizabeth Novena with immediate medical attention. ***(Moral of my case, I will nvr seek medical advice n help from govt hospital again)***

Singapore General Hospital Motorised carpark traffic attendant

Dear officer in charge

On 18/5/2022, around 530pm while crossing the road from MOH staff carpark with my mother to block 5 to visit my grandmother, we nearly knock down by a traffic controller riding a motorcycle. He was very fast at a blind spot behind a white car down slope towards carpark H. Fortunately I managed to pull my mother backward on time, otherwise, both of us will be injured. We hope the authority to look and educate them seriously to be safe and don't speed in SGH compound for the safety of all people. We utmost thankful of your immediate action.

Best regards,

Singapore General Hospital Lousy MOH QSM service , winner of Tai Chi master goes to Mr Jeffery Lee of MOH

alamat please lah Minister Ong, don't tell public feedback to QSM MOH Jeffrey Lee when this fellow sleeps on his job so many times. Gave feedback about SGH poor services that lead to negligence of service to my dad during hospitalization. Instead of helping to escalate, this smart alec played tai ji master and swing us from one party to another ended up we gave up feedback. More than 6 months liao, no news about the negligence on services from doctors. Hopeless.

See MP also useless, can't help much because best they can do is ecalate to their colleage MP ONg, and in return MP Ong pass to MOH. Then they hire Jeffrey the Taichi master, he can make feedback become silence

Desired outcome: We support & respect healthcare staff . But wat to do when some healthcare staff lack professionalism, do you sweep under e carpet? More transparency please lah

Hi

On 5 Sep 2022, I seen a doctor at Blk 3 B1 (CDLD). I was informed that I would require to go for a scan for the doctor to evaluate my treatment. I requested for an earliest scan appointment but was told that mine is a non-urgent case and the appointment would be on the next 4-6 weeks. I told them that I would be away from 30 Sep to early Oct so that they would not have to schedule it during this period.

On 8 Sep 2022 (at 8.41am), I received an SMS message that says my scan appointment is on 3 Oct 4pm at Radiology Dept at Block 2, Level 1 (Blue Zone). It seems that my comments had not been noted by the medical team hence the scan appointment was scheduled 3 Oct.

On the same day, I immediately made the following phone calls to request for change of scan appointment. To my disappointment and frustration, the hospital staff took more than 30mins to pick up my call.

1st call at 8.55am (using my mobile). Voicemail from SGH for 8 minutes then I hang up at 9.03 as nobody attends to my call

2nd call at 9.04am (using my mobile again). Voicemail for 10mins and I hang up at 9.14 as again nobody attends to my call

3rd call at 9.34am (using my office line). An officer (Ms Jean) picks up my call at 10.10am

I do understand that at times the number of calls can be overwhelming, but I cannot understand that the hospital took almost an hour to pick up a call. Surely SGH can do better, right!

Singapore General Hospital Duplicated & Redundant blood tests

Similar to 1 user below, I got prescribed same blood tests in July and October 2021, despite my condition improving (1st test all negative, then if im not worse why test again).

Dr also order Hepatitis B and C test without communicating with me, and without actually asking if I have it or not. Even general practitioners know to ask these questions. When test results come out that I'm a Hep B carrier (which i already know), Dr didnt advise or change diagnosis/treatment.

These things padded my bill for about 20-40%. Very greedy and unethical doctors

Desired outcome: More transparent about prescribing test

Good left and incompetent docs remain at SGH. They don't welcome feedback but only good appraisals some ex staff and forum mentioned it. Those negative ones even is valid, will be blacklisted by docs and nurses in it..so patients and care givers , don't give feedback when it concern the hospital and staff bad stuff & services

Singapore General Hospital Negligence leading to the death of my father

My father passed on due to the carelessness of some in SGH ...he passed on due to sepsis was discharged even though he had a fever n shivers...his bloodwork on healthhub showed there had been an infection yet a nurse called n told my mum my father was ok to go home ...in 2019 he had a heartattack it seems and noone told him or us only this year some doc read n told us abt it despite the record the vascular docs hv kept pushing on for ops over n over he was under GA several times.
When he was breathless two days before he passed on he was kicking grasping for air clothes soaked in sweat as my mum was walking in a nurse told my dad hey u don't like this ah or I send u ICU...
Started on the 6th of aug When we sent him to the ER coz he had fever post op they sent him back n gavr an appt for polyclinic on the 18th of August, post op n not taken seriously! e next day we sent him back again to the A&E only then he was admitted, but nothing much was done untill his wound burst if only someone had seen him earlier or admitted him took him seriously this won't hv happened on the day the wound burst he was left unattended his clothes drenched in blood the nurse can scold my dad "u don't go n tell yr daughter everything can!" Wat kind of nurses u have SGH! I called my dad only then he told me n I asked him for pics n called the ward...heartless nurses u have ... my dad is only 60. He loved his family just lived for us n his grandbabies...he was the perfect husband, father n grandpa...I hope another family won't hv to go thru this.

SGH is a joke can u imagine all their staff from docs to nurses all ask me write in testimonials when their services so bad and so many bad charactersdont complain already happy. Few r really good but these people won't stay long..so if u happen to visit SGH and come across senior consultant or staff nurse or even higher ranks, better siam because these people can hurt patients heartlessly , demoralise patients, anyhow recommend supplements and gave wronged prescriptions until side effects happened they said no wronged or not happy go elsewhere..like forerunners said, no need feedback or complain further ..MP Ong in his FB asked people feedback MOH QSM on all these bad services and he act blur or stupid blur that don't he know it will heta taki once this super inefficient and lazy Jefferey Lee of MOH QSM took over, hopeless guy. With him around MOH and all other hospitals so happy nothing to resolve because he sit on it or taiji master. If rich I will dump all these govt hospitals SGH, TTSH, SKH, CGH etc into rubbish..luckily NUH still got some hope

Sorry to hear wat u & family went tru at SGH I totally sympathize and understand well because this stupid hospital only care about people giving compliments and not facts. Some ward nurses were terrible my bru just discharged and saw how they bullied some elderly patients who either mentally or physically weak or cannot talk back..poor things and totally unacceptable on such poor professionalism..many docs at SGH will push responsibilities towards patients when things went wronged (or become partial handicapped due to poor ops by inexperienced doc) when in first place the docs failed in their own due diligence when later my fen told me the ops was unnecessary in first place..To all Singaporeans and foreigners fens, pls avoid SGH truly getting bad to worst. Pointless feedback to MOH QSM, because MP Ong is sleeping not knowing wat he is doing. Especially this guy Jeffrey Lee, MOH QSM u kanna him that's it. His service is nightmare, talk [censored] and no action type

Singapore General Hospital Pharmacy collection of medication

To whom it may concern,
"SGH block4 second floor Pharmacy collection of medication"
Today 14/8/21 at about 120pm, when my queue number 1038 was called that this staff personal attended to me and asked for the patient's ID or address or DOB which I was not really remember in complete. I told him I understood your protocol but when after holding for about 20mins finally I could reveal to him the patient's ID no. Which had met your protocol. But yet continue to go beyond by asking any allergy. So I contested him that he said, if just either I could verify the patient's one of DOB /address/ ID. I told him I am not a doctor how would I know in detail and told him this was irrelevant to ask further. After that, the best part was he asked whether want to go through the explanation of medication procedure. I said "of course have to right? IS it Ethical if they could take short cut?. Finally he did apologise but when I asked him how to address him because he did not wear any name badge and he just
Said Mr Tan. I further asked him Mr Tan.. what, yet he has no pride to say his full name. In fact I have a portion of voice recorded.

Regards,
Chong Kung Seong

Singapore General Hospital SGH pharmacy & doc - BAD communication channel from stakeholders and irresponsible pharmacist when problems arise

it is shocking to learn this exist in Singapore hospital when both doc & pharmacist took turn to provide consult to chronic patients. My mother in-law has chronic heart disease and lupus. She was constantly rotated between doc & pharmacist for consult at SGH. Many times when side effects arise, the pharmacists started to tweet their words and cover up their own mistakes. We are not interested in this excuse but more important where is the doc? He was was not avail when patient needs her most. The comm was so bad at SGH the patient could not reach out to the doc directly when urgency calls for. Is either main hotline constantly failed to pass down message to the doc or the doc fail to return call timely. For more than a week now, the doc still did not response. While on paper the patient was told to reach out to the appointed pharmacist for point of contact, the irresponsible chief clinical pharmacist was nowhere to be seen when patient need her most!

IMO, pharmacist should remain in their own forte and not step out to provide consult. Some resource tight hospital do this when doc is too occupied with too many patients on hand. In my hometown, our country hospital system did try this once but promptly removed it when many chronic patients became fatal victims when wronged or misleading info from some smart alec pharmacist. Even senior principal pharmacist or chief clinical pharmacist should STOP acting like a doc when many started went into hiding the moment their patients hit into major side effects or health threatening condition. So wat when pharmacist is a doctorate or master class, can write articles well, get paid more than USD15k a month but reality they are still not qualified to take over the roles of a doc. Likewise doc should not delegate them to handle their patients regardless how busy they are. This is a wronged move. Singaporeans should voice out before this become a norm

For the record, i am a trained qualified GP once a doc for almost a decade in Canada.

Singapore General Hospital Petty pharmacist, truly unprofessional

My spouse has serious diebetics, stroke issues require constant attention from a team of doc and pharmacist at sgh. Doc busy most time and pharmacist took over consultation. Assigned a senior chief pharmacist. Seniority there but service suck! She was constantly late for appointments and there were times waited for almost an hour. She also not receptive when my wife complained about breathlessness and hives after the new med. Once my wife asked for another med treatment when she saw her fen coping well. Thinking my wife doubted her, this chief pharmacist started to 'distance' my wife query effective tat day. To the extent, my wife got blacklisted and subsequent query to her received not a single respponse. This senior staff still dared to assure us she can be rely upon for single point of contact betw doc and patient when first introduced.. She can talk well, no action type. My spouse she need moral understanding about e side effects and hope pharmcists can explain more but not even an acknowledgement when reminded few times on her queries. I caregiver also find it very challenging to engage sgh. So difficult to reach doc directly when urgent and end up refer us to this irresponsible chief pharmacist... Sigh. She gave out treatment finally when emotionally she felt neglected by healthcare staff and e war is over. My family is very sad sgh service is getting from bad to worst

Healthcare professional should place patient's welfare as top priority. He or she should resign for good when they get things too personal
