Motor Trades.co.uk General

10/02/2012] Steven Alvers: I have been looking at this company more closely. For the unsuspecting they have a sneaky auto renewal clause in the small print to which they attach strict time limits for you to "opt out".For those who have better things to do or can't be bothered reading it, its another trap, "legal clause", to get money out of you.Yell.com don't carry on like this and invite you to renew your ads.

They claim its for your convenience, but its for theirs, as they know many people will not read the small print. They liken the auto renewal system to house or car insurance which is quite pathetic as the former are generally legal requirements
and this is not.Sleazy legal people have drafted this so be careful.

Your business will generally be found on google headers and yell.com as they generally appear above motor trades.co.uk.Also google and yell.com are household names unlike motor trades.co.uk, so motor trades.co.uk are really quite superfluous.Steven Alvers.

Somehow this worked for me

I am very disappointed in the way you have dealt with my complaint with regards to the way I was tricked into opening two policies. After googleing motortrades I'm not suprised to see you have a huge amount of disgruntled customers.
I have asked my bank and visa disputes not to allow you to take any further payments from my account. I will pay my balance monthly via check to reach you by the 1st of the month x3.
If my policies are cancelled and all money i paid refunded I will not carry out the following.
I will be sending a email on Thursday to the office of fair trading, trading standards google and other search engines explaining the way I was tricked and how you trick other customers with your auto renewal policies and other small print scams.
Then on Friday I will email customers who advertise on your website warning them of your auto renewal scam and other small print urging them to end their policy and to forward the email to anyone else in the trade. I will send 1 generic email to a min of 10 recipients per day until i am sure i have cost you £1000's.
This is not the way i like to do things as i have better things to do with my time, i therefore hope i am refunded, i don't do getting ripped off.

Dear Mr Alvers

Thank-you for your posting of 10 February 2012; it is not clear if you are an advertiser with Motortrades – if you are, please contact us directly, and we will resolve any customer service issue that you may have.

You can contact us directly on [protected] asking for Operations on extension 7803 or by email to optout@motortrades.co.uk

We have a genuinely decent Customer Services team that do their best to fully resolve any complaints within 2 business days.

We currently have around 330, 000 active listings on-line with us, and with this level of listings, it’s inevitable that some complaints will arise from time to time.

Moving back to your posting, we don’t accept that Automatic Renewal is “sneaky”;

Automatic Renewal is used by many businesses in the directories field now, including the UK Market Leaders, Yell.com and BT with their Customer Street and uFindus.com Brands.

Indeed, as many of our Services include telephone number packages, call routing and web services / domains as part of a “bundle” Automatic Renewal and no risk of interruption to services is highly valued by our Customers.

Whilst there is no legal obligation for us to remind advertisers that their agreement remains in Automatic Renewal, we do issue monthly reminders to all advertisers and many thousands of customers choose to opt out of the Automatic Renewal programme following receipt of the reminders. Customers that don’t opt out remain within the programme and are then called by our Renewals Team to agree ant future renewal by telephone.

Earlier in our posting we made reference to both Yell.com and BT Directories using Automatic Renewal within their agreements. For reference purposes, this can be evidenced at the following links.

Yell.com Automatic Renewal

http://marketing.yell.com/legal/new-media-conditions.html

BT Directories Automatic Renewal

http://www.btcustomerstreet.com/resources/downloads/terms_and_conditions_11_12_2009.pdf

Specifically;
16. Renewal or Extension of Contract Yell.com
16.1 By entering into a twelve (12) month Contract (with Yell.com) for the Services set out on the Advertisement Order you agree to enter into a contract for advertising of an entry for THE NEXT AND FOLLOWING twelve (12) month period unless you opt out.

Motor Trades.co.uk Illegal transactions

They phoned me out the blue on the 11/08/10 saying exactly the same, boost calls ect ect... So i thought as any business does... Yeah why not.. Will cost me 0.77p Per day( So hardly a fortune)...

The next day they phoned me offering me a premier package...and before i had time to think, they had debited my credit card again...

Now here is the best, Between the 11/08/10 to 24/08/10, They have taken a total of £665 out of my account... ( Bearing in mind that this is only meant to be £30 per month)

I have phoned them now 12 times since 11pm today, got through once, and they said they would phone me back within 24 hours...No surprises there.

What is more interesting, is that every time i call, i seem to be able to hear the same back ground noise as when they phoned me previously..( Sounds like lots of people talking, however, if you listen really closely, you will hear words been repeated every few minutes... Is this a recorded back ground noise..Unsure yet will make a recording when someone phoned me.

MY ADVICE TO ANYONE WHO WORKS WITHIN A MOTOR TRADE IS DON'T BOTHER WITH MOTOR-TRADES.CO.UK. I have not had 1 telephone call from anyone who found my advert on motor trades, Not 1 Email off anyone who found me on motor trades.

To end this rant my advice is DONT TRUST, THEY RIP YOU OFF, AND TAKE MONEY OUT OF YOUR ACCOUNT WITHOUT YOUR PERMISSION, I HAVE HAD TO CANCEL MY CREDIT CARD DUE TO ALL OF THIS, SO THEY CANT TAKE ANY MORE MONEY OUT... I WILL POST ON HERE WITH REPLIES I GET!

Motor trades are tricksters. They have an auto renewal clause in their contract which they liken to yell.com and BT.However I am a yell customer and yell do not have an auto renewal clause at all.If the yell rep does not renew the contract towards its end, the advertisements simply lapse.I have spoken to many people within yell. They are just full of it.Steven Drake

This review was chosen algorithmically as the most valued customer feedback.

I too signed up with this company after they gave me a phone call out of the blue. They eventually convinced to take out advertising with them claiming that they would boost my call volume and therefore my business, promised me thousands of extras calls a month etc. Different staff phoned within days changing the contract as I thought but then said I had...
