A1 Assist Towing Unethical business & bad behavior

My husbands car was towed by these thieves to their Industria yard. On Friday the 24th February 2017, he tried calling them on numerous occasions to arrange for his car to be towed to a diff location. They kept on dropping his calls and then assured him they would call him back. Which never happened. SO the car was kept at their yard over a weekend, wracking up costs. Now they want over R11 000.00 to release the car, This is daily robbery, as we did try to get the car away from them before the weekend.
I can not believe that these people are allowed to operate their business, and continue to rob the little man.
They insist we come to the yard to sort out the issue and it not be done over the phone. Is this so that they can verbally abuse and or assault my husband into giving in to their thievery?

They did the same thing to me. I called them to say I want to release my car and that they should tell me how much it will cost. They said they will call me back and they never did. Re-NewIt is also the culprit as they take longer to quote and they dont mention how much it will cost to release the car and the daily rates.

A1 Assist Towing An unscrupulous towing company

On 21 May 2016, A1 Assist towed our client’s vehicle (a horse) from the scene of incident on M2 near Westgate to their premises on 91, Banfield Place, Roodepoort a distance of about 10 km.
The truck had a fan belt problem, the client said his drivers tried to repair the fan belt on scene and in the process they damaged the bumper. The average towing cost for that distance is R 2 500.00 excluding vat on average, this is from quotations obtained from other service providers. The client then followed up his truck the following day and A1 Assist (Pty) Ltd informed the client that they can assist to repair the fan belt and replace the damaged bumper if the client supplies a new bumper which he did. Both parties agreed but according to the client A1 Assist (Pty) Ltd took a long time to repair the truck and their excuse was that they had a lot of work therefore, they could not attend to the vehicle as soon as the client wanted. The client lost some revenue in the process as he never expected A1 Assist to take such a long period of time to fix his truck.
A1 Assist (Pty) Ltd only informed our client that they were done fixing the truck on 17/06/2016 after the client made numerous calls and visits to their premises.
The client was then issued with an invoice of R32 376.00 of which R5000 was said to be for the repairs done. General it means towing cost and storage amounted to R25 375.00
The following discrepancies are found on their invoice.
Towing R 7 500 - horse only for a distance of 10km (average charge is R 2500) Administration charges R 1 500 -? Recovery R 3 800 - no recovery was done, it was a hook and a tow. Storage for 24 days R 15 600 - How could a repairer charge storage for the vehicle he is repairing also considering that the delay to repair the vehicle was caused his work load.
We therefore, urge all motorists, transporters and insurance companies to avoid using A1 Assist (Pty) Ltd. Their charges are very excessive, their business practice is unethical and their conduct is unwarranted for. They also bring the towing industry into disrepute.

A1 Assist Towing Never use A1 Assist for towing

After an accident, A1 was the first to appear at the crash scene to help. I spoke to my insurer who confirmed that A1 can tow my car for repairs to the panelbeater. But that is not what happened. They towed my car to their own yard. It is now two days after the crash and my car has still not been delivered to the panelbeater! To make things worse, someone stole all the cash in my wallet which I forgot in the car. I still plan to contact them about the theft issue, but it seems they can't manage or administrate themselves. Now the insurance wants to know who is going to pay for the tow of the car from A1's premesis to the panelbeater! It won't be me!

Hi,

I have had the same situation in this regard. A man also called my insurer and promised me that they will cover the towing costs. Now my insurance company does not cover the towing and 'm responsible to pay R9690 to release my car from their yard.

I'm not sure if I'm currently going to be sitting in the same situation because I have been in a accident last week Tuesday and the guy said the Tuesday that it was to late for them to tow the car to the place we wanted it to go but they will tow it tomorrow morning as there were no talking of any other charges the following day we phoned them and they said the car will go no where until the payment is made.

I also went through every little thing with the guy to make sure all is there... I WILL BE LOSING IT IF SOMETHING ISN'T THERE BECAUSE ON THE PAPER HE WROTE WICH I HAVE NOT SIGNED SAID THERE IS NO CAR BATTERY, NO SPARE TYRE WICH I HAVE ALL INDICATED TO HIM THAT IT WAS THERE...

IN THE ATTACHED PHOTO IS THE PHOTO OF THE MAN WHOM HELPED ME...

I was involved in a car accident on 9 December 2015 in Florida and A1 Assist were the first to appear on the scene. I was with my two kids, thank God none of us were injured. A guy by the name of Tobie of A1 Assist came to me and asked me which insurance company I was using. When I gave him the details, he then used his phone to call my insurance company and gave the phone to me to speak to a guy by the name of Gerard of Old Mutual Iwyze. This Gerard guy asked a few security questions and I asked him if I should allow these guys to take my car, he agreed and said that he will give them an authorization number to take my car and I should relax as everything is going to be well taken care of. When I called my insurance company to follow up on my claim, they said to me they have not received anything from A1 Assist and that the authorization number format is not theirs. I immediately called A1 Assist and asked them what had happened, I even went there and they said to me that what happens on the field is none of their concern and I signed for my car to be taken and that I should pay R9450.00 if I want my car. My car is currently with them and incurring a cost of R300 everyday for storage. I am sooo FURIOUS as this Tobie guy took advantage of a mother in distress and defrauded me. these guys are ruthless and evil. How am I to get my car back now as my insurance isnt going to pay for my car to be released as they didnt authorize for it to be taken. I wish there was some board that could really help us as these guys are really robbing us of our cars.

Yep same thing happened to me yesterday, guy with a tow truck insisted to take my car after I said NO, but said it was leaking and will only charge R450 only, to my surprised we were asked to pay R9300 for admin and storage fees.
