North Texas Tollway Authority [NTTA] not notifying

I am very happy to pay my tolls. However, I need the bill in order to pay it. I only use the tollway about 2-3 times per year. Last week I received a call from a debt collector saying I owed $157. for using the tollway in August of 2017. This was the FIRST I had heard of it...in June of 2017. I believe It was an on/off single occurrence.

I always pay my bills on time and was flabbergasted that the caller was telling me that a bill and follow-up were sent. I never received anything. I acknowledge using the tollway that week to take my daughter to college, but I DEFINIITELY would have paid the bill immediately. I believe this is probably some sort of a scam by the NTTA. I will say that the customer rep (Stan) was couteous and helpful. But, the whole thing left a bad taste in my stomach. I couldn't even sleep that night because (prior to calling) I feared someone must have stolen my identity or something - because I knew of no debt.

Another bill for another toll use came last week...which of course, as I always do, I paid immediately. Upon closer inspection, I noticed a $2.80 late charge. For what? This is my first notice.

What I have learned: IF I ever take a tollway again, I will write down the date/time and immediately call them and REQUEST a bill. Of course, I will try to avoid them solely because of this event.

I am so sorry for the other people who have found themselves in a worse situation than myself.

I had a active TollTag account at the time of charges. I receive a ZipCash bill for a hugely inflated bill. NTTA refused to reduce my bill to the discounted rate EVEN though I had a TollTag account at the time of the Transactions! THIS IS A SCAM. Someone needs to get control of this Organization for their unethical business practices!

I bought a new truck in September. Put my toll tag from old truck in new one till my new tags arrived for new truck. Then I get the Zip -pay invoices for all tolls incurred. NTTA says I owe inflated rate because- even though the tag registered, it did not match tag on truck on account. My position is that payments were tendered. They could easily haved charged to the account. I paid NTTA over $1, 000 in tolls for 2017 and they insist on making the additional funds from tag rate to Zip rate. Basically double.
NTTA is a private, for profit, organization! They should not have this kind of Usery, abusive power!
When is action going to be taken against this abusive organization?

North Texas Tollway Authority [NTTA] charged for someone else's vehicle

I traded in my vehicle and purchased a new one in December 2010. I took my tolltag out of the old car and put it in my new car. In March I began receiving zipcash invoices, which is for people without a tolltag. I went online to change the license plate associated with my account, and was surprised to see that tolls had been charged on my account, triggered by my old license plate, despite the fact that the tolltag was not in the old vehicle. When I asked NTTA to remove the charges, I was told I was responsible (for a vehicle I didn't own) because I failed to change the information on my account. So NTTA has charged me for two vehicles on one account at the same time, despite their claims that only one vehicle can be associated with an account. I will be contacting legal help to try and generate a class action lawsuit for this. Oh, and the amount charged to my account? About $11. Would have been so much easier, and cheaper, for NTTA to do the right thing from the start.

If you did not report the change in the vehicle ownership, how is NTTA supposed to know that it does not belong to you. The licence plate belonged to you in their records. You were charged for two vehicles because you had one plate listed as yours that no longer had the toll tag in it and you had a toll tag in the other vehicle. All the scanners and cameras care about is if a tag is in place that tag gets charged the bill and if there is no tag, the owner of the plate gets charged. If you had followed through and reported the sale of your vehicle either to NTTA or to the state tax offices you never would have been charged the fees after you sold it.

North Texas Tollway Authority [NTTA] texas toll fees

North Texas Transit Authority how rediculess can this be? I am being charged $25.00 per month for every month I do not pay a $1.70 toll fee. Now keep in mind I never had a problem when I could simply drop my money in the toll both. We have now put hundreds of people out of work. We are not paying any salaries and these people are probably in the unemployment lines, as I have been for 1yr 10mons and three wks, but we can generate a fee of $25.00 for something that we did not need in the first place. I just do not understand all of this.

North Texas Tollway Authority [NTTA] fraud

paid amount (as per NTTA policy). (10.26)
NTTA billed to a bogus account number, leaving our commitment unpaid.
then, our acct. bill rose to $285.26.
tried to resolve in vein (via phone and in person)
we were reported to a company called Southwest Credit with threats of legal action.
We paid 196.37 dollars for a 10.26 fee.
Numerous attempts to resolve this via phone calls to NTTA customer service and were told lies.
We have written documentation to prove all.

North Texas Tollway Authority [NTTA] over charged

I'm worried about my toll turning to a warrant as well as the other people who have been arrested without receiving a notice in the mail. I received my usual toll bill in the mail and tried to pay it. I sent a money order and they sent it back saying they had sent it to collections because it was late. It was not late. The bill was for, for some reason, two months worth of toll's. Total dollar amount, $68.00. Then the collections agency say's it's now $500.00. Now it is over $1500.00. The return date on the letter of the returned money order is still before the due date on the original first payment. Their billing center issued a statement on the news a few months ago saying that there IS a problem in that department. How can they get away with arresting people when they have admitted their billing system is flawed? It has been 6 months now and I haven't received any other letters from anyone. I recently was laid off from my job and I am taking care of my mother who is a heart patient here at my house. If I get arrested for this, and go to jail and lose my kids and mother for the NTTA having a flawed billing system, I will be out of luck. They are the only family I have and they can't get me out of jail. How can the NTTA get away with price gouging people with the economy the way it is?

Thank You
Jerry England

NTTA unable to keep proper records.
I have been using my vehicle for the past two years on the toll ways and have the massive amount of credit card debits to prove it, yet this month I get a bill saying I ran a toll and they sent me a bill for $2.60 + $10.00 late fee. Puzzled because my credit card is being billed, I call and they have no record of my current vehicle on file.
I call and ask to speak to a supervisor. (the young customer service lady that answered was nice) but when forwarded to the supervisor, he/she never picks up and I get disconnected without solution.
Not happy!

North Texas Tollway Authority [NTTA] dfw toll gates

I've had a tolltag for several years now, but it looks like the tollway authority here in DFW is doing away with gates in most places and you just drive through and they send you a bill. At the airport though, you cannot get through unless the arm goes up. I shuttle people to the airport about once a month, and lately on two occasions I've had the extremely stressful experience of being stuck behind a gate that won't lift, and a line of irate people behind you who won't back up. The first time this happened was because my credit card was stolen and I had to cancel the account, but I needed to go through the airport before I could update my tolltage with the new card number. And then it happened again because the date on my credit card expired. I'm sure there are a lot of people who will say this was my fault and just leave it that, and I agree I should have stayed on top of it. But I think it's incredible that the NTTA doesn't do anything to notify you when there's a problem with your account, and as a result you're stuck at a crowded toll plaza behind a gate that won't go up. It is a very unsafe and stressful situation to be in, and I can't be the only person this has happened to. As a result, I'm cancelling my tolltag account ASAP. If there's a problem with your credit card, and you're able to update it online, the NTTA should also be able to send you an email saying there's a problem and your account has been suspended, so you need to take care of it. This is standard procedure for many other companies (Netflix, ebay, etc.) who use credit card accounts for recurring fees.

Irving, TX is issue toll tickets to anyone that doesn't have a toll tag. They don't even have the toll booths open and they issue 7.95 tickets randomly. I just go another one the other day and it wasn't even my car. Mesquite, TX also does this with their red light camera tickets. It doesn't matt er if you are standing still at the red light, or have the right to turn on red they issue the ticket anyway and then hit you with three times the amount of the ticket for next three years as surcharge fees.

Department of Public Safety is now issuing old and resolved tickets from expired licenses sothey can keep your license suspended and you in debt on surcharge fees and license reactivation fees. At what point does the public shutdown Municipal Service Bureau and Department of Public Safety for falsifying records so they steal thousands of dollars from the "Public?"

I too have been charged for a vehicle not belonging to me. I purchased a vehicle a few months ago, registered the temporary plate to my account, and during the time the plate was legally registered to our vehicle, another vehicle with the same temporary plate has been running through tolls in Austin (I live in DFW and do not travel to Austin). The tolls have been continually hitting my account. After calling to dispute, NTTA, TxTag and Municipal Services Bureau all claim there is nothing they can do. When given the plate number, their system shows no instances of violation, therefore they cannot review the tolls or find video evidence. Isn't there a burden of proof on the tolling authorities? How can they bill me for tolls I did not drive through without anything other than a plate number someone could have easily typo'd, or written on the back of their car with a sharpie? Video would clearly demonstrate that the vehicle in question does not fit the make and model the temporary plate is legally registered to.

Additionally, it is not my responsibility to track down the problem. If they cannot provide video proof of the tolls, I should be immediately refunded the money and it should fall on them to discuss the issue between the different authorities. This whole system is a joke.

Marc Gunderson Apparently from May of '09 to Nov.'09 I racked up about 40 bucks worth of toll charges. I never received an invoice from NTTA but I did get a letter from their collection agency saying I owe $1455.05. They charge $25 for every toll you don't pay? Of course they are so kind as to offer to settle for around $800. If you ...don't agree to that...

North Texas Tollway Authority [NTTA] unscrupulous business practices

I received a letter from SouthwestCredit saying that I owed the North Texas Tollway Authority $206.93. Funny thing: I don't live in North Texas. I live in San Antonio. So, unless the NTTA is now collecting tolls in South Texas, I find in surprising that they are accusing me of a violation, and secondly have reported me to a collection agency to handle this purported violation having never contacted me directly. I realize that the economy is tough nowadays, but that doesn't give me the right, as a business owner or governmental agency, to file false charges. The last time I checked, this was still America, and as such had the right to face our accusers and know of our charges.

Or, perhaps, Dallas' NTTA has decided to secede from the Union. Either way, I wish someone would let me know. However, since I can't get either NTTA or SouthwestCredit to return any of my communique, I suppose I'm left with my only recourse being something that will make my high school English teacher smile and quote Shakespeare: A PLAGUE ON BOTH YOUR HOUSES!

North Texas Tollway Authority [NTTA] civil rights

Amendment 8 - Cruel and Unusual Punishment. Ratified 12/15/1791.

"Excessive bail shall not be required, nor excessive fines imposed, nor cruel and unusual punishments inflicted."

NTTA is connected with the government, since the Governor appoints its directors and it is given the land to build the roads and authority to collect tolls.

25$ dollar fee's on a 1$ toll = 2, 500% percent increase in toll.

Violating our 8th amendment with a 2500% markup.

:Notice if you drive down the Dallas North Tollway for around 20 miles you will approx land yourself with around 125$ in fines, if you do not pay these fines you will be subject to higher fines and then a warrant for your arrest will be issued.

While NTTA in my opinion is a government organization that builds roads for the rich from the riches money, they also get some of their money from exploitation of the uninformed. If you have out of state tag's go ahead and use it since they cannot access your info. But if you LIVE IN TEXAS AND DO NOT HAVE A TOLLTAG, DO NOT USE THE TOLLWAY.

North Texas Tollway Authority [NTTA] violation

I received a letter from Southwest Credit saying I owe the Tollway Authority $187. I never got a bill in the mail from North Texas Tollway. When I called NTTA, the woman on the phone said they sent out 2 letter to inform me, however I never got any letter. They added on all these fees then sent the letter straight to collections. She also threatened me, saying if I didnt pay this outstanding balance there would be an arrest warrant put out for me. I know for a fact they can't do this bacause they would have to summons me to court first, but it makes me angry that some people would fall for that. I have great credit, I have paid all my bills before the due dates and never had an outstanding balance, so I would have paid my toll had I know about it. Now this has gone to my credit and will affect me for the next few years? It is getting out of hand and someone has to stop them. They are sneaky the way they do this because many people would rather pay the bill then pay court and lawyer fees.

I have read comment after comment about extortion from North Texas Tollway. Stories very similar to mine. I was traveling to Carrolton from the Hill Country to transport a couple of dogs to a rescue. I ended up on this toll road without notice or a way to exit. No communication to drivers until it's too late.

I figured I'd get a bill in the mail and I did...Over a year later. A collection notice after I received a phone call from these shysters. I explained in the call that I never received a bill and didn't know who to contact about the toll and why. Then, I got a bill in the mail. Funny how that happens, right? I also told them I refuse to pay the late fees when they never send a bill or a statement and I had no way of knowing who I needed to pay this toll to. Of course, they told me I had to pay it and I explained, "It ain't happening".

A few days after receiving the first bill I had seen in the mail, I get another call from someone who was rude and kept interrupting me when I tried to explain the situation. She had threatened me with not being able to register my vehicle or get my license renewed and possibly being cited for not paying the full amount. After trying several times to explain the situation and being interrupted by her, I slung a few explatives at her and hung up out of frustration. Then, I got online and got a number for an omnibudsman for this place. I tried 3 times to leave a message which each time, got cut off after about 30 seconds. I couldn't do much more as I was frustrated and had to leave for work. I didn't think my voicemails went through, but apparently, they did. I got a call later this afternoon from someone stating they'd take off the late fees if I paid the original toll. I don't mind (sort of) paying the original toll. I'm not paying 5 times that amount for late fees when I never recieved a bill and had no clue who to pay or how much I actually owed.

This entire situation seems to be purposeful, intentional and illegal. There are too many similar stories and shady collection practices, which are illegal in this state. They know it but do it anyway and our fine politicians allow companies like this to continue to operate in this state while they extort the rest of us. This is crime syndicate level extortion and I hope everyone involved ends up charged with crimes-including any political entity that allowed this to happen and continues to allow this to happen. This is nothing short of criminal behavior and needs to be stopped. A class action lawsuit should be the least of their worries. This level of corruption needs to be dealt with but our idiot politicians are too busy playing politics and taking away citizen rights to care.

I just got a bill for $38.54 from Professional Account Management, a collection company, for using the Lewisville Toll Bridge on July 31, 2016. I received the debt collection bill on Nov. 16, 2016. Apparently there were two charges for $1.77 each for using the bridge. I never received a bill from NTTA. I have perfect credit and this really makes me mad! If I do not pay this bill NTTA threatens that it could potentially fine me $500 or impound my car - for their mistake! Meanwhile, I will not be driving on any toll roads around here! $35 dollars of fines for $3.54 of tolls? When I get other toll bills here (which is rare) they are usually sent quarterly, so am I even late?

My family and I were visiting Texas and came to an unexpected toll that did not offer the type of payment we had so we had not choice but to go threw it. I cannot believe how dealing with this has turned into such a big scam. I am even more shocked at how they treat out of town guests who are not trying to skirt the system just simply not familiar with it. I mean they knew by my license plate that I was from out of town. A couple dollar toll turned into 38.17 bc notices not being received or mistaken for junk mail. I can promise you this. Bc of this I will not return to Texas for ANY REASON. If I have to travel in that direction it will be just using the interstate and will not come and give the state ANY more of my hard earned money to vacation there. After passing this info onto several of my friends they feel the same with some even telling me stories of them going threw tolls in Florida for the same reason and Florida recognized they were visiting and never sent them a bill. This is a horrible way to make someone want to come back and spend money in your state. Must be pretty desperate in TX to have such a scam. ADIOS! Texas I will never return.

Have been in ongoing discussion with NTTA - very polite. However - the NTTA never - has never and can not do anything other than say they did- send any invoices. October, November, December, January - Nada - Februrary I owe almost 300 dollars and two days later I get a collection letter from California - Come to find out the Collection Company is in house - that in my book smells like a scam. I have a lawyer sending letters telling the collection company to back off - a letter for NTTA to prove collection efforts - and remove the Habitual Violator tag... and working my way up the ladder at the NTTA - this is a class action law suit in-waiting and would be a good Trouble SHooters News report. It is deceitful, probably illegal and I would like to pursue the issue. Anyone know a Texas Senator looking to gain some publicity for addressing government sanctioned misbehavior.

I am having the same situation everyone else is having with a twist. I am getting billed by two separate collection agencies, Alliance One and MSB for what appear to be the same bill. I was threatened with the same thing, being arrested if I did not pay the bill by MSB. This is a rip-off. I used the toll road in April of this year and did not get anything until July! Then it wasn't just one bill it was two. None of this makes any sense. I am going to turn this over to my attorney through my legal protection plan and let them take care of this issue. This is absolutely ridiculous!

Wait until you hear this one. At first I thought it was a scam! I live in Florida. Last time I was in Texas was 25 years ago when my Aunt was dying. Today I got a notice that I owed $4.80 to NTTA. I checked my car and plate was intact on rear bumper. The only time the car has ever been out of Florida was 5 years ago when I drove to Maryland. I call a number given, wait for 30 minutes and then click -- call was ended. It was 7 PM here so I figure they close at 4 so just cut me off -- to go home no doubt. On the web site I found a comment section and so I send a complaint -- told them TO CALL ME, LEAVE A MESSAGE WITH A NUMBER FOR A PERSON I COULD TALK TO OR TO KEEP CALLING ME UNTIL THEY REACHED ME. -- otherwise, I will blow them off. If they come after me, I will make sure every news organization hears MY story! What in the heck goes on?

I received tolls totaling about 170 from the ntta and hit a hard spot. 3years later I received a letter stating that I wad to appear before a judge for a 90.00 ticket. Allow me to explain, the company "ntta" sent swcredit a collections. Then they sent the dps "public authority" a citation Issued by the ntta. When is It ok for a company to issue a ticket? So I pay the ntta the 90 dollars and call the jp. They say the ticket after I paid the ntta mafia is 319 unless I pay the tolls. First, ill gladly pay 170 for the original tolls. Not 398.00 for admin fees, all I say is they better pay good to type that stuff up. That's a 600% increase people!

My bill to the NTTA of $19.65 was (I admit) late. I then sent in my payment and they returned to me saying it had already been submitted to collections. In less then one month it turned into almost $300.00. I could not pay that. In less then 2 months it turned into almost $700.00. North Texas Tollway Authority [NTTA] over billing

NTTA billed me $11 for use of the 121 toll road which I am happy to pay.
However, 20 days after I recieved the bill they sent out violation for lack of payment for $211.
Discussions with the NTTA resulted in a stalemate. They claim the statement was sent on June 1st.
The postmark on the envelope is June 22nd, statement date July 1st.
They refuse to talk. Where do I go from here?

Got a 3rd and final zip cash bill but had never received one before. I have a toll tag account. The bill was for a car I don’t even own anymore. I called and was told that the amount due was from 2020. It’s 2023 why is this the first time I was hearing about this, the first girl who was helping was rude so I asked for a manager and the escalation manager was rude and condescending. He said that it was with legal and couldn’t be touched. Of course being frustrated I was getting angry as he was telling me that my car was not added to a toll tag until after that bill in 2020 was sent. When trying to explain to him that I had a toll tag when I purchased the car in 2019 he told continued to tell me I was wrong. When I asked to speak to his manager he told me he was the only manager I could talk to. I requested again to speak to his manager and he once again told he he was the only one. I even asked if they can’t give out the managers number that they could just give me a call back at a later time and he still said that he was the only manager. Finally after back and forth with him he did finally admit to having managers he reports to but stated that they don’t deal with customers or accounts. I finally got fed up and disconnected the call.

5 random charges of 20 bucks a pop (100 total) from NTTA this past month (July 2023). I don't even live in Texas anymore. ?! Disputed the charges with my CC company and was refunded almost immediately. NTTA is BS.

I have made payments twice on the same toll account but I still get billed for it. The current bill does not show any history of me making payments and now it's in collections.

The website is so confusing, SO awkward how tolltag and zipcash are related, but NOT? Terrible web design = huge amounts of wasted time for Texans. Someone needs to be fired.

I had a toll acct & paid a bill to close mt accr using the app & some how my card was saved. They billed me $20. I closed the acct with $20.99 as a credit and told to wait 60 days for refund. Then after that 60 wait another 60 days. They claim to have mailed the check 6/10 but I have not received although my mail is being forwarded. Money is lost.

NTTA is a complete scam. Did you know that you have to register to get a discount for 2+ riders? Oh yeah, you have to register 15 minutes prior of using it, and register every time you use it. Complete rip off.
