We decided to hire Newburgh Bath Experts for the installation of a half bathroom in our unfinished basement
We decided to hire Newburgh Bath Experts for the installation of a half bathroom in our unfinished basement. However, we were highly disappointed with the outcome. I even shared pictures on my Google review to showcase the state of the bathroom when they claimed it was finished. The workmanship was subpar, with poorly done trim, bad miter cuts, and no caulk or p-trap under the sink. Additionally, the stopper didn't work, the water supply lines were not properly secured, and there were various other issues such as unbraced wiring, baseboard gaps, and an incorrectly installed upflush system. The crew also left the area soaking wet after spilling water from the new toilet, without properly drying the rugs or removing furniture from the affected area.
Furthermore, the lack of cleanliness was disappointing. As stated on their website, they claim to clean up after themselves, but this was not the case. I had to deal with cleaning up water, cigarette butts, and drywall chunks that were left behind.
The turning point for me was when I discussed these issues with Josh, the owner. Instead of taking responsibility, he made excuses and offered a discount on the remaining payment. I had my suspicions about the quality of their work, so I consulted with handymen and general contractors who confirmed my concerns. I requested to see the permits for the job, but it turned out that Newburgh Bath Experts had not pulled any permits for the work they had done.
During a meeting with Josh and his project managers, I confronted them about the water spill and other issues. Their response was dismissive, and they failed to acknowledge many of the problems I pointed out. It was also revealed that none of their crew members were licensed plumbers, which raised further doubts about their competence. At this point, I no longer trusted them to fix the mess they had created.
After some negotiation, Josh offered to fix the issues and have the work inspected by an inspector he would hire. I reluctantly agreed to this arrangement. However, even after their attempts to rectify the problems, the work still fell short of expectations.
Upon conducting my own research, I discovered that neither Josh nor his company were registered in the Town of Newburgh for contracting work. This meant that they were not licensed, bonded, or insured, which was a major concern. I also learned that while a license is not required for contracting in Newburgh, proper insurance and permits are necessary, both of which Newburgh Bath Experts failed to obtain.
To ensure the work was up to code and to address the plumbing issues, I hired a professional licensed plumber who was able to correct the mistakes made by Newburgh Bath Experts. This incurred an additional cost of $1700.
In the end, I managed to resolve the financial aspect of the situation, but I felt it was important to share my experience to warn potential clients. It is crucial to ask for proof of licensing, insurance, bonding, and permits when considering hiring a contractor. Additionally, if plumbing work is involved, it is advisable to hire a licensed plumber to ensure the job is done correctly and meets code requirements.
I had hired **** for a remodeling project on my kids' bathroom, with the work scheduled to start on February 25th, 2022
I had hired *** for a remodeling project on my kids' bathroom, with the work scheduled to start on February 25th, 2022. Unfortunately, right from the beginning, this job turned into a complete disaster. There were major issues with communication, and the workers seemed to lack knowledge and expertise. Moreover, the owner did not provide adequate supervision.
When we initially agreed on a price in 2021, I showed *** a picture of exactly what I wanted for the bathroom, which included an older Claw foot tub that I wanted to keep, along with a $1000 tub and shower kit to complement it. Specifically, I wanted the shower head to be inside the tub, as shown in the included picture. However, when I returned home from work, I was shocked to find that they had installed a cheap shower head and faucet (costing about $200) on the wall instead of inside the tub. Additionally, they had installed a Privacy Shower curtain rod that extended 8-10" from the tub, causing water to leak out whenever it was used.
When I confronted *** about this, he argued with me and claimed that the item I wanted was indefinitely backordered. However, when I contacted the company myself, I was informed that it would only be backordered until April 30th. I relayed this information to ***, and he agreed to order the correct items and fix the mistakes made by his crew once they arrived. However, due to my lack of trust in him, I decided to take matters into my own hands and ordered the kit myself, which arrived around May 1st.
Meanwhile, his crew continued to install the plumbing, which was done incorrectly and not up to code. The sink drain was running uphill towards the main drain line from the toilet, and there were other issues as well. The main drain was silicon sealed into the drain line going to the sewer, causing it to leak into the kitchen ceiling below and causing significant damage. ***'s employee promised to repair the ceiling, but that never happened. There were so many problems with the plumbing that *** eventually told me to hire my own plumber, promising to cover the costs, but he never followed through on that promise.
The electrical work was also a complete mess, and it would take too long to explain all the issues here. Additionally, I had custom-made a vanity and mirror for the bathroom, and when they arrived, I informed *** about it. However, when I mentioned all the other problems that needed to be addressed, he never responded to my inquiries about when the project would be finished. As of today, the bathroom is still not completed, and I had to hire a plumber and an electrician to fix the mess. Furthermore, the water from the tub has caused the black grout to run down the wall, making the whole situation even worse. Overall, this has been an absolute disaster of a project.
