Midasfraudulent billing and gouging

My Honda needed a muffler repair that was completed on 7/16/09. The final price of repair was substantially higher than estimates I got from other Albany area Midas dealers. My son went to this dealer simply because this location was the closest to him. He assumed repair would be close to the estimates I obtained. I was shocked when I saw the final bill. I spoke with manager, Mark, that afternoon. I told him I disagree with the repair price. It was $80 above other estimates. He did not accept my reasoning. he hid behind the veil of “each Midas repair can mark prices up at their will.” He blew me off spouting gibberish. I investigated. These facts were presented verbally to Mark on 2 occasions over 1 month. In the last conversation, he stated that if a refund is to be issued, the owner Kent Smith needs to authorize it. No monies were refunded. Local MIDAS repair centers confirmed that there are 2 ways of repairing a 1999 Honda Civic muffler. I cite prices I canvassed from 3 other local Albany Midas centers. Choice #1 1999 Honda Civic 4 door has a Midas muffler WITH THE EXHAUST PIPE WELDED/ATTACHED for $129 part # 241224. They charged 153.95. Choice #2 The same repair may be accomplished by using muffler part #152015 for $89 and an attachable exhaust pipe part #320275 for about $40. The price from repair was 49.95. The total price of #1 and totals of #2 are about $129. This sheister billed for the complete unit 241224 (#1) that has the exhaust pipe as an integral part of the muffler assembly AND the exhaust pipe from #2. He fraudulently billed for a product that was never installed. He also price gouged me by selling products that are NOT competitively priced for this region. Refund was obtained by taking owner to small claims court.I showed up, he did not even bother. On the refund check he mocked me by writing, "REFUND FOR CHEAP CUSTOMER." He was wrong, with no remorse. Shame on him.

This Midas repair center committed fraud by billing for UNINSTALLED part.It also marks up products more than 20% from similar Midas franchises in this area. Settlement of claim required small claims court. The owner, Mr. Kent Smith is arrogant and without remorse. I would avoid this repair center at all cost.

I recognize those part #'s !! One is direct fit with the low hanging and always rusted out connector pipe and the other is just a muffler. People don't understand that exhaust more often rusts from inside out, and if you the customer has x-ray vision then yes you could get a good phone quote... Uh but nobody has that power. Bring your POS in for inspection and leave your phone number, say yes or no to the quote and thank you at the end of the deal. That's it!!! Yes I'm sure this owner is making millions one small piece of exhaust pipe at a time.

Midas has very poor customer service! They are rude! Especially in Roseville, Ca, on Foothills Blvd.

Called this place of business to make an appointment 2 times and was told one was not needed. Was advised to just bring the car in and "due to the economy when you take the time to come here we'll make the time for you". I left work early, drove 10 miles out of my way, arranged for a co-worker to meet me there to have her car serviced too, only to be turned away. I would say do not go there without an appointment, or commitment, but I felt they committed only to turn us away.

My Name is Kent Smith. I am the owner of this and many other Midas Auto Service Centers. This customer is totally unreasonable. He authorized the work. We perfomed the service with honesty and integrity. The job was done without issue and to the highest standards of service and quality. He then started calling around to get phone quotes to see if he could squeeze us for a few bucks. In the end, we are the same price for written estimates not "phone quotes" as every other Midas and competitor repair shop in the area. Phone quotes for exhaust repairs are not exact and most "reasonable people" realize this. Yes, he is a cheap customer. We have been in business 54 years. I have been part of the Midas Program for 32 years. We have a A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau. We are a AAA approved facility and recently won Dealer of the year with Midas international Corporation. I am extremely proud of our record. If you own a business avoid this customer at all costs.

Midas Auto Service Experts did an oil change on my vehicle and approximately eight (8) days

later I had no oil in my vehicle. Prior to this, my vehicle was in excellent running condition -

it niw needs a NEW ENGINE. They also did a tune-up and messed that uo too - they

did not see a clogged PCV valve. They feel they put the wrong spark plug in and that caused

the problem but will not take responsibility for the lack of oil in the car. I also wrote to Midas

Customer Relations in Itasca IL and I have yet to get a response from them.

Their motto is 'Trust the Midas Touch, " - go figure.

Any assistance you can give would be greatly appreciated .
