I tested positive for a genetic rapidly progressive disease in march of 2025. Mayo clinic is considered a center of excellence in the treatment of this disease. Naturally, I wanted to go to mayo jacksonville as it is 10 minutes from my house. The appointment schedulers in every dept. I have spoken to all read from the same script, "I am so sorry but we are not accepting new patients at this time; and probably for the next two years". Cardiology, neurology, nephrology. I had to travel to mayo rochester, minneapolis to be seen. I spent 4 days with testing there. Cardiology in rochester made an internal referral to jacksonville mayo neurology dept and I was seen within two weeks and am being treated. The jacksonville mayo neurologist was horrified when she learned that I had to go to rochester to be seen. She has made a referral for cardiology a month ago and still, I have not heard anything. Just yesterday I had an exchange with nephrology scheduling to address my kidney disease issues and was told they are not accepting any referrals for the foreseeable future. What the hell? I am disappointed because the disease I have has affected various systems in my body and I was hoping to have mayo dr. S all in one place to treat my various issues instead of running all over town and dealing with doctors who have never heard of my disease.
Recommendation: If you want to avail yourselves of Mayo Jacksonville, go through the ER. It's a shame but I am sure people are trying that method,
