I should've checked ComplaintsBoard.com before I hired Master Mechanical a few years ago for a repair that barely lasted a month. They didn't honor their guarantee and lied about what they said. They still owe me more than $1,100. I don't understand how they have a good rating with negative reviews.

Master Mechanical charged me over $700 to install a capacitor that is probably worth around $25. They also suggested replacing a contactor, which would have brought the bill to nearly $1000. However, that part is only worth about $30. I can't blame the mechanic for this, but their claim of being "tru transparent" is completely false. I reluctantly agreed to just the capacitor because it was already installed and I had already scheduled the service. This morning, I even signed up as a Monthly Preventative Customer with a local service company that promises to respond to emergency calls in the future. I definitely would not recommend Master Mechanical to anyone. They only get one star from me for actually showing up.

My steam heating system return was leaking. They misdiagnosed my problem. They replaced the return for the north side of the house and never realized there was a south side return which was the problem. Refill water filled the furnace every time heat was called for. The problem persisted for over a month after their initial visit and several incorrect diagnoses for which I was charged. I was billed over $6,000 for the initial flawed resolution and for the ultimate correct resolution. I never received an apology or an acknowledgement of their mistake even though I paid for their error.

Service Good, Overpriced, No itemized breakdown of bills. I called this company 'cause they're the sticker on my boiler. They took over from the old Powersmith customers. I appreciate that they came quickly, but I ain't too happy 'bout the price they charged. I own a bunch of properties and I figured this kinda thing would cost around $800, since it wasn't an emergency (I did ask for immediate service at 5:15pm, but they said I had to wait 'til the next day). But they quoted me $1300+. 'Cause of health issues, we needed the hot water fixed ASAP. I just didn't have time to find another company, but I ain't gonna use these guys again 'cause of the price. I looked up the parts and they're 'bout $350, which is a $225 part with a 50% markup. The technician took 'bout 20 minutes to install it. $1000 for labor and diagnostic is way too much (The service manager did say he came, did paperwork, diagnosed the problem, which took 90 minutes instead of the 20 I mentioned. So I'll change my comment. The install of the new part took 20 minutes, my wife timed it. Either way, $1000 for 90 minutes is too much for a non-emergency response). And they were quick to ask for my credit card info, but slow to give me a detailed bill. The technician said he doesn't have a printer, but the office says he can provide it. I hate going back and forth between the tech and the office. I called a few other heating companies and for what they did, it shouldn't have been over $700. Update: Just got off the phone with the service manager. He was real polite, but the company won't give me a breakdown of parts and labor, which just confirms my suspicion that they overcharged me. They did offer a 10% discount without much argument, which also confirms my theory.
