Long Island Rail Road [LIRR] review: Oyster Bay branch train horns
For the past several days, the train horns at different times (mostly in the middle of the night) for example 3:45AM on 11/3/26 and 2:30AM on 11/2/26 have been unbelievably loud in Glen Cove. I have lived here for years and it has absolutely never been like this. They are long, blaring, and audible for miles. From the Glen Cove station area, the horn can be heard as the train approaches the Seacliff crossing more than 1.5 miles away. What has happened? Is there a new engineer who is horn happy? Is there a new horn or train? This is absolutely an imposition on everyone who lives within a mile of the Oyster Bay line and it must be corrected. The train wakes me up, and I am certain it wakes thousands of people as it traverses the line every night. Please remedy this unbearable issue.
Claimed loss: SLEEP, EVERY NIGHT!
Desired outcome: Either instruct the train operators on how to utilize the horns in a more appropriate way in the late night hours, or fix the horns. They do not need to be heard for miles.
