Liberty Tax Service review: false adverstisement

I am extremely disappointment with the services provided by Liberty Tax, located on Main Street, Santa Ana Office, CA. This office is less than half a mile from my office, so the location is very desirable. Like most people, I was drawn in by the promise of 30% off the fees. I would imagine that the fees would be inflated, but had no idea how much it would be inflated! The rate after the alleged 30% reduction was still $50 more than H&R Block. The person filing my refund was NOT TRUTHFUL when I initially asked what my fees were. She was in fact vague.. stating it’s about $230-something. NOT TRUE! My fees were calculated at just below $500! With 30%off! When questioned about her initial quote and given my simple tax form, she knocked an additional percentage off, which came to $261. H&R Block standard fees for the same filing is $212. Since I was already at this office, I swallowed my pride and just agreed to the outrageous fees. Liberty Taxes also alleged a faster refund! NOT TRUE! I filed my taxes on the afternoon of March 4, 2013, and still no refund! H&R Block gets me my refund between 8 to 12 days! When I called to inquire about the status of my refund, the person answering the phone (Angela) has no explanation for anything. I told her that their practice was unacceptable and she challenged me to file a complaint!

I wish I had done more research on Liberty Tax before I decided to use their services. I learned that other states have pending class action lawsuits. The false advertisement promising a faster refund is unacceptable and the fees were never disclosed. I cannot imagine the countless, poor victims who do not speak English and have no way of paying upfront for filing their tax returns. Mind you, I too would have missed the fees if I had not looked over the forms before signing them. If there are any attorneys out there reading this, please contact me. I would like to hold Liberty Tax accountable for deceiving the public. Thank you.
