HomeOwners Advantage is the current property management company for our homeowners association in Georgia. The former general manager was hired by our former President of the BOD and approved by the former board. At the most recent annual meetings, all the former Board members and officers were removed through duty held elections.
Prior to these elections, homeowners advantage and its general manager, while acting under the asserted authority of the BOD, engaged in conduct that appeared to interfere with the association's internal election and governance process. Specifically management used the association communication systems, including email and phone to solicit proxies from homeowners. These proxies were intended to be exercised by the former BOD President at his sole discretion.
In addition, association communication platforms and emails were used to distribute messages characterized as "community announcements" that cautioned homeowners against "false" information being shared by certain members. The information referenced in these communications has since been verified as true and factual.
Management further encouraged homeowners to anonymously report other homeowners who were disseminating truthful information that could reflect negatively on management or the former BOD. These actions raise concerns regarding selective enforcement, misuse of association resources, and lack of neutrality by the management in matters of board governance.
Following these events, homeowners who expressed opinions or shared information that differed from those of the former BOD or management were subjected to threats, intimidation, and monetary fines imposed at the "sole discretion of the BOD", with involvement from management and association legal counsel. If your association values fairness, transparency, and fiduciary responsibility, we recommend you look elsewhere.
