Hair Cuttery blowdry/style

Date of Incident: 9/29/18
Location: 44110 Ashburn Shopping Plz
Unit 19 Ashburn, VA 20147
Name of Stylist: Farrah
Request: Full Refund/Explanation

I called the salon to ask for pricing/services as I was looking for someone to help wash and blow dry my hair for me. I am currently unable to do so myself due to a bad wrist injury. I made it very clear over the phone what kind of hair I have (I mentioned to Farrah- who mind you, my sister referred me to go try out since she had seen her a few times in the past), that my hair was full, curly, and coarse- I mentioned it was a little past my shoulders (which it is, curly).

She calls me to confirm my appt (which I made at 10am), then calls me again, to ask if I can come in at 11am- I said no, that won't work because I have an event to attend in Fredericksburg, which is about 1.5 hours away a at 2pm. She later leaves me a VM saying come in at 9:50am. I sent Farrah a text message to confirm back that 9:50am works great. I ended up showing up at 9:45am on Saturday, but she took me in at about 10:05am (which I wasn't upset about, it happens). Immediately after being greeted, Farrah starts dramatically making comments like "oh wow your hair is so long and full- you said it was a little past your shoulder {she obnoxiously laughed a few times, too}- this is going to cost you at least $50 dear! no way I can charge you $31standard price"- I said "excuse me? I discussed the amount of hair I have, and your staff mentioned this being a flat rate of Hair Cuttery"- she then starts to make more comments about how it will take so much time to do and how she won't have enough time. I simply stopped her mid-sentence and said "Farrah, look- if you don't want to help me, I will gladly go elsewhere. You have done nothing but complain since the minute I walked in- you either want to help me, or you don't." - she replies "no, I mean you are here, I will take you- come let's go get your hair washed." While Farrah is washing my hair, she repeatedly kept making comments about how I need to get a keratin treatment and how my hair has so much frizz that it's hard to maintain (mind you, it is MY hair and MY choice). I ignore the comments, and proceed to the chair after all her small talk. She starts to part my hair, so she can proceed to blowdry. Another lady (don'trecall her name, but she was also Iranian) walks over and makes a comment stating "oh did you lie to Farrah about how much hair you have?" and starts to speak Farsi. Mind you, I can understand them both since I speak the language {extremely unprofessional- regardless of the language}. I responded back with "no actually, Farrah was well aware of my hair length and I did not lie."

As Farrah continues to blowdry my hair, she does nothing but comment throughout about how frizzy my hair is, how it's going to take forever, and then asks "have you ever gone to a blowdry bar before? there are so many around here, they're great"- clearly insinuating that I should have gone there instead. Instead of me flipping out on her {at this point, I was absolutely FURIOUS with her rude comments being thrown at me left and right}, I kept my mouth shut. She then asks me "so the other places you've gone, how much did they charge you for all this hair of yours"- I replied "depends on who it is and my relationship with them, I have a lady I go to normally at Salon Lofts in Cascade Overlook who only charges me a flat rate of $42 for everything you're doing for me today- Farrah then laughs and tells me "next time maybe go to her then and definitely think about getting a keratin treatment for your hair.." I stopped and really was just thinking "is this lady serious?!"

A few minutes passby before she makes her next comment {she's now about halfway into drying my hair- and it's about 10:50am}- "my hand is killing me, haaha I think you gave me carpal tunnel!" I stopped and quickly said "Excuse me? I'm sorry that your blowdryer isn't working well for you and you're not thrilled to be drying my hair right now. I've counted how many times its taken you to dry one strand of hair..that never happens to anyone else that does my hair for me- it shouldn't take you 10 times...maybe you need a stronger blowdryer instead of complaining to me that I'm giving you carpal tunnel- you're a hair dresser, you use your hands to do hair, please do not ever tell me I'm the reason for your wrists are hurting. I'm done sitting here and can leave now since all you've done the last hour is complain about my hair"- she then quickly replies with "no no dear, that's fine I'm going to finish but its just so much hair! At this rate, I was just waiting and praying for her to be done so I could leave the store.

I was absolutely embarrassed by her behavior. The entire time I was there, she complained so loudly that others could hear, she kept texting on her phone, kept taking phone calls every 20 minutes (seriously was interrupted by phone calls 2-3 times) and then speaking Farsi to the other hairdresser. She charged me $54 -conveniently she checked me out to pay; I gave her an $8 tip-should have been $0. GOD AWFUL!

I have now submitted 2 reviews (Yelp and Customer Service Survey Review) as well as complained via your 1-800 number and no one has gotten back to me. Trying to submit again on your portal for assistance.

Hair Cuttery behavior and personal hygiene

Hair Cuttery price quoted for a shampoo, condition, and blow dry according to the texture of hair

I am the grandmother of a 4year old adorable African American child who has beautiful thick hair. When I called Hair Cuttery to inquire about services for a shampoo, regular condition, and blow dry (explaining the texture hair my granddaughter had) I was told that the price would be $17.00. Upon arriving at the salon and observing that my granddaughter was African American the stylist stated that because of the texture of her hair the price would be $27.00 instead of the listed price of $17.00. So, am I to believe that Hair Cuttery charges more to service African Americans than Whites, Asians, or others that have straight hair? Since this seems to be a racist practice Hair Cuttery should reflect on their price chart that the price for Whites and other nationalities with straight hair is $17.00 and for Blacks with curly and kinky hair is $27.00. I was deeply insulted and appalled by the racist practice that seems to be the norm at these salons.

Hair Cuttery a stylist

There is a man his name is Robert he works at the Aramingo Ave Hair Cuttery, nice man but does not listen to what you want done for your hair. I came home yesterday with no hair when I told him I wanted sides cleaned up and less than 1/2 off the top. He talks your ear off when I want to relax. I try to go when I know he isn't working as for allowing him yesterday to cut my hair I. Told him I do not want it too short, he doesn't listen to the customers. I feel bad but the way I see it he isn't doing his job correctly

Hair Cuttery unethical behavior/discrimination

I entered the hair cuttery with my grand-daughter seeking service for a wash and blow dry using a coupon that stated I could receive a wash, blow dry and hair cut. I did not want the hair cut but I was told by a stylist that assisted me at the counter that I would have to pay an additional $20.00 for the wash and blow-dry because my grand-daughter did not have regular hair. I asked the stylist what did she consider regular hair and she pointed to the white lady that was sitting in her chair and said "hair like that"
I asked to speak to a manager and she allowed us to use the coupon at no additional charge, however, the damage was already done. I reached to the district manger for this hair cuttery and she sent me an apologetic letter along with two more coupons for the same service which is not compensation for the lifelong damage it has done. Seeking therapy for both me and my grand-daughter for we have been both been traumatized by the incident.

Hair Cuttery color strip and dye

In Dec. I asked a woman at the 02155 location to lighten my hair from a dark purple to light brown. She used two rounds of color remover and a brown dye. She burnt my scalp so bad that I was scanning for months and the job she did left a permanent red dot in the back of my hair. I tried to go it out to no avail. I am not trying to go blonde and my hairdresser at Hair Affair by Janice cannot get this dog out at all. I spent five hours in a chair today trying to fix the the problem she did with no luck. While in the chair at Hair Cuttery I also complained of my scalp burning from the dye and she stated that it was normal. I spent over 8 hours in that chair that day for a notch job that months later is still hard to fix. Not only was this job botched I spent almost $400 to completely damage my hair. Attached is a photo of me two rounds of color remover and bleach later. It's so bad that I have to go back next week to try and get the rest out

Hair Cuttery color

I went to the Hair Cuttery in Lake Ridge at Dillingham Square. I had a red for which was fading and wanted my hair to be dark Brown, all one color again. I had Adriana who took forever, and in the mean time took other customers while supposedly doing my hair. The color we agreed on was a dark brown. My hair came out an unnatural black, that's not even. There are still streaks of my old color in it. My hair texture is also super dry and brittle. I could've done a way better job with a box color at home myself. Then it was my birthday, and I wanted my hair styled. She only knew how to blow dry my hair straight, which I said over and over I did not want. I asked for a simple bun and she didn't even know how to do that. My hair looked terrible, and I had to go home to style my hair before going to my birthday dinner. She tried to charge me for a bunch of services she did not do like deep condition, cut and blow dry. I argued and she brought the price down to $86 for a terrible job and my hair looked awful for my birthday. I am super upset. She said I could come back for a cut and deep condition, but I don't want her within 20 feet of my hair.

Hair Cuttery stylist didn't provide cut as requested! horrible service! full refund requested so I can get it fixed!!!

On Friday, July 13, 2018 at approximately 5pm I went to the Cross Keys Hair Cuttery in Turnersville, NJ. There was no wait and Dorothy was the stylist I received. Customer ID [protected]. I requested a shampoo and cut. I explained to Dorothy that the last time I had my hair cut, the stylist hadn't taken enough off so I wanted all of my layers to have about 2 inches cut off and the length just what needed to be trimmed for any split ends. I told her I don't wear bangs and that I comb my hair back and with the layers it falls and feathers in front and I like it to be just above my eyebrows when dry. She listened to everything I told her and appeared to understand. She washed my hair and then trimmed the ends first. She showed me how much I was requested be cut to confirm and I told her yes that was what I wanted because my layers were too long and heavy right now. However instead of cutting approximately 2 inches she was cutting a 1/4 of an inch and as I was watching her cut she kept pulling all the hair to the top and side saying my cut wasn't even. (My hair is cut in layers and feathers on the side down to the length of my hair.) I trusted that she knew what she was doing and that she was trying to even my hair. She was taking a very long time cutting and hadn't cut the sides yet. She kept running her fingers through my hair and pulling it back to measure that both side were even, but every time she did this, her long finger nails were scratching the side of my face and neck. I said ouch several times and kept flinching when she did it, but she never apologized or even acknowledged that she was scratching me. She asked how I like my bangs and I told her I didn't wear them as bangs, but that I don't like hair in my eyes and like the layers to fall just above my eyebrows. She was combing them straight down and trimming and the length was still in my eyes. I told her if the length was still in my eyes they were too long. She kept telling me thank you for your patience because it was taking her sooooo longgggg. She cut more off and asked me what I thought. I combed my hair and told her that it looked like she missed an area on the sides and the top was still in my eyes. She told me the sides were done but she did cut a small amount more off the top. I was in the chair for almost 2 hours at this point. She didn't cut off 2 inches on the layers like I asked and after the time it took her to do what she did, I was so frustrated that I didn't want her to touch my hair any more because I truly don't think she knew how to cut my hair. I would have respected her if she had told me that when I told her what I wanted, but after 2 hours and her not doing what I requested, I was not happy at all.

When I got home my husband an kids didn't believe I got my hair cut, because it didn't look like she cut anything off. The next day they asked me what happened to my hair.

I do not get my hair blow dryed, any product put in or curl my hair ever and my hair is very healthy and with the cut I have I can just wash, comb it and go.

This is the 2nd time (last 2 hair cuts) that I went to hair cuttery and requested a cut and didn't get what I requested. The first time, the girl did a nice job, she just didn't cut enough off and my hair is thick so it gets heavy when the layers are too long. All I wanted Dorothy to do was follow the cut that I already had, but take the layers shorter and she didn't do that. I can't stand my hair now, it doesn't lay right, and I told her that I had 2 special events that weekend.

I have attached a photo of my hair as it should look and then took photos of the side and overall cut. As I said, I do not blow dry, or curl my hair and the photo is my hair naturally with the right cut. The others photos show there are no layers and the hair is just hanging down on the sides and top doesn't have the layers it should.

I have used hair cuttery on and off over the years because it seemed every time I found a stylist that I really liked, they didn't stay very long and it was trial and error finding a replacement. I recently went back, but haven't been very happy with the cuts I have gotten. Last September I got a color done and was very happy with the cut and color provided. Don't see that stylist there anymore. I just don't seem to have much luck with your company!

Hair Cuttery services rendered were not what I asked for

Went to see dena decided I wanted to go toward natural color with blonde highlights she put red in my hair didnt really like it so when I went back told her I wanted highlights because I like blonde and reinterated that I did not want any red in my hair. She put red in my hair again. Dont understand why and when I asked her she said it was for the ends of my hair whatever that meant but it didnt make any sense to me.
Told me I had breakage from wearing a barrett. Had it on the sides in the back of my hair which is the worst and at the bottom. Little did I know dena did this to my hair and tried to cover it up. When I told her one side of my hair seemed longer that the other she said that was possible and that the left side of my hair was alittle longer so she trimmed it and I said thats all it needed but she gave me a haircut anyway to blend what she broke off I guess. Got a 2nd opinion from another hair cuttery was told I should go to salon and ask for manager and have them give me treatments for the damage caused by dena. Dry straw like hair with breakage. So now I have been dealing with new manager pam. I have driven out of my way to 2 salons in altamonte. Then last friday was supposed to go for my 3rd condition treatment and discuss plan with dena who caused the damage and with dana new stylist who I want to start seeing but got a text right as I was pulling in that pam had a meeting at another salon and couldnt make our appt today and said she would get back with me. Never heard from her again until I texted her on monday she responded back to me on tues saying shes been busy and I can come in for my treatment. Called corperate office on monday afternoon after work and s/w mike who told me district manager david weist would call me back in 24-48 hrs but have heard nothing back. Please have a district manager call me asap [protected]

Thank you, debbie wood

Hair Cuttery unusable coupons

I have been a loyal customer for a couple of years now (ever since the store opened in my area) and I am furious that I keep receiving emailed coupons that I cannot use. I just received coupons, once again, that I cannot use because there is an extremely limited time use for example $5 off any service of $15 or more, valid July 4 -6 only. Another one $10 of a service of $40 or more, valid July 4 - 6 only. Three days and over a holiday? Who are you kidding? You have some nerve knowing that most people cannot redeem these coupons. I get my haircut every 5 - 6 weeks and it NEVER falls on the coupon dates. My stylist doesn't even work on those coupon days. This is a slap in the face. It's not fair to your loyal customers. The coupons should be valid for at least a month so that your customers can take advantage of them. This is such poor business practice and it infuriates me. This is how you treat your customers? Shame on you.

Hair Cuttery terrible stylist deecee (pronounced as dc) - unethical behavior

Went to Hair Cuttery for a shampoo and blow dry. Told them what I needed. Pointed out to their price list and told them what I needed. DeeCee was assigned to me. I have curly hair, she wanted to use the flat iron but I refused. She asked me how to style my hair and told her I do not want it straight I wanted it curled inside. She showed me a picture and I told her, yes that is the way I need it curled. She did a very sloppy job, sprayed many chemicals that she said were volume boosters, and then straightened my hair. Then she started putting some sticky wax like product on my hair and I told her not to even though she kept insisting. I told her I needed a light spray but she used a lot of spray and made my hair hard. At checkout she charged me extra and when I asked her why and pointed out to the price board she stated very rudely that the extra charge was for straightening. I told her I had asked her not to straighten my hair and I did not like what she did. She had an attitude and was extremely rude in front of all the customers, just because I asked her about the extra charge for something I had asked her not to do. My hair looked so terrible that I had to come home and wash it.

Hair Cuttery potion 10

I visited the Hair Cuttery in Lake in the Hills. I dealt with an employee named Kim...I think she may have been a manager or something. Well, I needed to restock on my miracle 10 products. I saw a new product, I hadn't seen before, called Potion 10. It seemed like it would fit my needs best. Well, they had a buy one get one half off deal going on. I grabbed 2 and they were priced differently. One was marked at $21.99 and the other was marked at $24.99. I asked and Kim said she would honor the price on the one that was marked wrong but that she wouldn't carry that price over to the other. Not to mention, she was extremely rude about it. I told them they could keep their products...I'm extremely disappointed in the attitude and customer service offered by Kim. Just thought I should let someone know.

Hair Cuttery pricing

I feel as though I was over charged when I took my daughter to the hair cuttery. She's only 9 yrs. Old with very soft thin hair. They told me because of hee texture they had to charge more. She does not have a thick texture of hair it's a little curly but soft and I was told by the hair stylist that her hair texture was different. But before the stylist started she told me her hair was soft and never discussed with me the price difference. This was my first time here with my daughter the stylist was very nice took care of my daughter hair but I felt as though there should not have been an additional charge .

Hair Cuttery hair cut, style

Friday May 11, 2018 my daughter and I went to the Hair Cuttery at Marketplace in Newport News, Va salon number 4200. We had an appointment to take mother's day pictures Saturday morning. I wanted to get my hair trimmed (due to split ends), shampoo and blow dried. For my daughter (who's 2) I wanted to get her first hair trim (if there was any damage to her ends) and shampoo because I would do her hair at home). When I got there I specified that I needed someone who was able to do natural African-American hair. The person in the front also let me know that a blow dry would just be drying the hair without straightening the curls with it and suggested the silky plus package which included the shampoo deep condition blow dry straightening and flat iron. I agreed because my firat experience there I got that package and my hair was amazing. I brought my own medicated shampoo due to a scalp issue I have. She told me I need a scalp treatment and that 4 inches need to be cut off my hair due to damage and that my hair would still be long afterwards. She didn't know what the package was and asked around and apparently no one knew what it exactly was (she told me this at checkout). She scrapped my scalp with a comb then washed it, then cut my wet curly hair barely combing it and used something called cholesterol in my hair and let it sit then began my daughter's hair. I told her exactly what I wanted for her hair, shampoo and ends cut. She said oh I'll do a little cute style I said ok but I don't use heat on her hair at all. She did her hair then sat her under the dryer. She then proceeded to wash my hair. After washing my hair she blow dried my hair, not straight nor with a brush or comb, she literally pulled my hair in bunches with her hand and just held the dryer over it. She barely tried to comb through my hair before just cutting more off. To make matters worse she comb my hair dry, ironically after stating that natural hair should never be combed dry (which I never do, my hair has to be wet or at least damp before putting a comb to my hair). She kept adding different products to my hair saying leta see if this work eventually she had to wash my hair again because the products didn't mixed and left white residue in my hair. So once again she blow dried my hair this time not only did ahe not use a brush to dry it straight she did nothing but ran the dryer over it. Then she started flat ironing my undetangled hair, at that point my ends weren't getting straight so she told me I needed a straightening comb for my hair not an iron (I've never had to use anything other than an iron on my hair whether myself, friend or professional styled it with no problems). In the beginning when she asked about a style I told her I wanted my hair just straight she started doing these weird curls by this time I was barely able to look in the mirror without becoming lightheaded and fighting back tears. My bra strap length hair was now at ears and in this ugly shape/style. I asked about the silk wrap (that I thought I was getting) she told me they didn't have the stuff. So now It's time to checkout, I had a discrepancy in the price and services, she didn't know how to price what was done nor did she tell me the treatment was additional, I assumed it was in place of the deep condition especially since she never did a deep condition on my hair other than the cholesterol she told me that I couldn't think it was free. Mind you I'm still fighting back tears. Someone else had stepped in by this time to help her. The woman who stepped in took off the $15 extra and the woman who did my hair gave me some coupons. As soon as I stepped out the door I burst into tears. When I got home I tried to comb out the ugly style and I found I could not run a comb through my hair, she sprayed something in it that it waa now hard. The next morning I just sprayes some water and leave in on it so I could properly blow dry my hair and try to flat iron it properly. That's when I saw that after all that cutting she had damaged my ends. I had to take pictures with my daughter with my hair completely a mess. I went to another shop and asked if there was anything that could be done to fix it and the stylist who originally did my hair when I first came to Hair Cuttery was working there. She told me that the entire back part of my hair was damaged she had to cut more off to get it even because it was an uneven choppy cut. And even with her doing an amazing job (washing, detangling and properly blow drying my hair straight before flat ironing it and cutting) I still have to go back to get more cut until the damaged hair is completely gone. In less than 48 hours I had to pay to get my hair done twice and still 1 or 2 more times to fix the horrible job that was done at Hair Cuttery. The experience was no less than traumatic.

Hair Cuttery walk-in vs. appointment

First of all let me say how much I love my hair stylist, Scottie. I am confused about your policy concerning walk-ins and appointments. One day I went in and requested my hair stylist Scottie. I was told I had one person in front of me because I did not have an appointment or call that day to request him. Okay, that is understandable. Three days ago I went in to have my hair colored and cut. When I got there, I checked in with one of the stylist. My stylist was cutting a gentleman hair. This was not an issue since I lookcame in a little early. The stylist who checked me in told me I had to wait because a walk-in requested the same stylist (Scottie). By the time Scottie was able to finish with the second gentleman, my appointment was 30 past my appointment. By the time he was able to finish with my hair, it was past time for him to get off. I truly appreciate Scottie and taking the time to do my hair, but feel this was not fair. What is the policy for walk-in and appointments?

Hair Cuttery complaining about getting charged twice.

On the Saturday the 7th 2018. I walked in with my dad for a shampoo and a hair cut. We had our hair cut from two different people. I decided to pay for me and my dad while my dad was getting a hair cut. I paid the amount off and got called for my turn. Later when we got home my dad told me that he paid for his hair cut. I was really mad about it like how can you people not check if the amount is already paid off? So irresponsible of Hair cuttrey staff. The lady who cut my dad's hair didn't even tell him the total and kept all the money into her pocket thinking that it is a tip for her. $23 really? I went to the salon spoke to the manager she was rude. She misbehaved didn"t apologized for even once.

And I told here I didn't want a perm any more I just want my hair trim up. It was not the best hair cut and I wanted the back trim and taperd. And she said come in on thursday at 7:00 am I payed $86.00 and a 20.00 tip. And my daugther got a hair cut the same day as my perm, so I told her to give the other girl $5.00. I don't care to go back now. What can you people do for me. Paying a $100.00 for just a hair cut is quit expensive. Your truly, gerald mccormick.

Hair Cuttery haircut/trim

I got my hair trimmed today. I asked for a trim because of my split ends and asked for not too many layers. I specified where I wanted my layers to start and what shape I wanted my hair. When she shampooed my hair, she got shampoo and water all over my face. When she parted my hair she did not check to make sure the part was right (which it wasn't). When she started cutting she was very aggressive with the way she flipped and clipped my hair and kept hitting my face with my wet hair. As she cut she did not seem to be paying attention to how she had cut the other side. At the end of the trim she did not check to see if both sides were the same. She asked if I wanted a blowdry but by the end of it I was so nervous what else she would do so I said no. My hair is finally dry now and I can tell how unevenly cut it is. The left side is almost a whole inch shorter than my right side. I don't even know how this is possible. I am REQUESTING A FULL REFUND OF $19 ASAP. This is absolutely unacceptable regardless of the experience of the stylist.

Hair Cuttery haircut

I went in for a shampoo, cut and blow dry. I asked for a layered Bob cut that would be shoulder length. I can't see without my glasses. So by the time she was done..i had a chin length haircut, not a job and usually when I get my hair cut that short they shave my neck area, she didn't do that and it's all uneven. So hate it and wish I never got it cut.
