My website was hosted by Dreamhost. I wanted to backup my account -- all my files. They had a "one-click" way of doing this. They sent me an email with a link to download files that the email said were my "ENTIRE Dreamhost account". In fact, the files were only a small fraction of my account. When I complained, they did nothing to help.

Dreamhost forced and upgrade on Joomla platform. I was asked to assist with this upgrade. Support didn't want to support but point to guides. They guides made no sense an didn't coincide with the backend. After hours of sitting on chat with support and having them walk me through steps because it made no sense or wouldn't work for me, the upgrade stalled. Three different support people had three different reasons and three different solutions; none of which worked. After over a week of back and forth with what should have been a 15 minutes upgrade, Chris with support finally got the upgrade fixed or finalized or whatever myself and the person in support could not accomplish the night before. He also transferred files as required by that upgrade. At that point I needed to enable the old theme. But I got an error code trying to log in. Chris said he fixed it to try again. I got a new error code. At that point, I was told to fix it myself. The entire site went down and I was pretty much brow beaten again for not understanding their guide. YET support didn't understand it either, obviously! The blocked my email and turned of my chat. The site is STILL down .. this is a business site! They forced an upgrade that stalled and wouldn't finish. Support attempted a fix and tore up the site! A five year customer ... the least they could do is reinstall the back up after their goof. It is money loss every second the site is down.

I got a bombardment of hack attempts on my server from dreamhost. If their servers are compromised, again, I guess they're having bigger problems than backing up your site.

My advice is to do the backup manually every so often from your cpanel.
