Buyer Beware. I purchased a Groupon for $111.00 for myself and my partner to receive a heart and lung scan. The salesman spent almost two hours presenting a high-pressure sales tactic. He used fear-mongering to pressure us into purchasing a six-scan package each for over $14,000. He presented scans of patients with life-threatening conditions detected by the scans. One such patient’s scan showed a renal cell carcinoma in the right kidney. He described how her life was saved from the full body scan since the cancer was confined to one kidney. This ploy was to entice us to upgrade to a full-body scan that day, he said we could receive it instead of the heart and lung scan if we purchased the subscription. He continued to describe how if the cancer isn’t detected early by a scan, by the time you have symptoms, it would be a fatal, stage 4 cancer. I was frightened by his sales pitch and purchased the six-scan subscription. After spending almost two hours of fear-mongering, he NEVER verbally told me that in order to cancel the subscription, I would have to pay $2,495.00 for the full body scan. I attempted to cancel within twenty-four hours and again was given a sales pitch over the phone before being forced into paying the exorbitant amount for the full body scan as the only means to cancel the six-scan package.
Claimed loss: $2,495.00
Desired outcome: Due to the misleading and high-pressure sales tactics, I would like to be reimbursed for $2,495.00.
