SABC TV / legal action for tv license

I received a Final letter of demand from VVM Attorneys: SABC Division []. I have not received anything before this and dont know why i am in arrears as i paid my license 5 months ago. I requested a statement from VVM and have got no reply! The SABC should not be allow to bully people like they do! I cant wait for the Customer Protection Act to be passed!

    I am being harassed by threatening sms messages from vvm. I am given a number to call, but after several attempts to speak to someone, I am yet to be connected to an (live) agent. I get no assistance from the recorded voice! I have sent 4emails (with affidavit) because I believe I am being billed incorrectly and adjustments should be made. I have had no reply. Only threatening messages on my cellphone. I am honest and law abiding and have a legitimate reason to wish to negotiate with someone for a reduced amount. What does one do?

    HeLP! My complaint goes back to 2007 bought and sold a tv in the same year ...have supplied avidavits as I live in New Zealand, advised of new owner, got confirmation and then out of the blue get another email suggesting a settlement agreement, have emailed VVM with all the details, which they dont even respond to, emailed SABC tv licensing reply ...what more can a gal do...have no history of debt and just get the feeling that VVM are only out 'there" for the money...when is SABC going to acknowledge all these complaints??????????

    I paid my TV licence as usual in September last year. I have still not received my card. 101565224

    I have emailed '' numerous times requesting info with no joy. They are absolutely inefficient. I got one email with a letter attached saying they could not assist as there was insufficient information. What more does one need than my account number?????????? I have phoned with equal lack of joy. The response is that the card has been posted.

    I have contacted getclosure and not even the courtesy of a response from the SABC.

    So what does one do? Complaints on Hellopeter are ignored, calls are ignored, emails are ignored, getclosure is ignored.

    Funny how quick they can contact me when payment is due. Then they have sufficient DATA

    Please advise as to when and how I can obtain my card for which I have paid or should I just not pay in future until SABC complies with their side of the agreement

    I purchased a TV-set in January 2011 under the condition that the licence fees are covered for two years. The salesman at the time has since left the company; leaving me without any proof that the arrangement was in place at the time of the transaction.

    At the beginning of 2013 a company by the name of Nudebt informed me that my account has been handed over due to non-payment, yet I have never received any form of communication from SABC or related companies prior to this. I approached Nudebt on several occasions to explain my problem; without any success. Instead, SABC still keeps on adding penalty-charges to my account. I am not familiar with the credit act, but I think that it is unlawful to add penalties to an account for non-payment during a period of dispute.

    After that my account was transferred to another company, VVM. I explained my situation AGAIN, and AGAIN made it clear that I will pay any outstanding fees; but that I am not willing to pay penalties on an infringement I was not aware off. Several consultants at VVM rejected my request to raise my case to a higher level.

    I then contacted SABC to try to resolve the issue. Unfortunately this did not help either as the consultant referred me back to the company who sold me the TV-set and also refused to communicate with me via email.

    Herewith my questions and queries:
    1. Why did I not receive any form of communication from SABC to inform me that my account is in arrears, prior to the account being handed over to debt collectors? (My contact details have not changed since I bought the TV-Set.)
    2. Why are SABC adding penalties to my account during a period of dispute?
    3. Why are SABC charging penalties on accounts that are in arrears? (Is the SABC listed as a financial instution?)
    4. Why would SABC not give my case any special consideration? (I have in my possession proof of similar cases where the penalties were cancelled.)

    I want to buy a TV but I got a problem when I have to apply for Tv licence there is someone having a tv licence with my id number but the names is not mine so please tell me what to do because I went to HomeAffairs to check if my id number is duplicate or what but is not please help..

    my daughter bought a tv in Nov 2009 + a tv license paid up until Nov 2010 - 2 Months after she bought the tv (Jan 2010) her boyfriend broke up with her and she was retrenched, so she moved back to my house.
    I (her mother) had to pay the installments on the tv because it was standing in my house and my daughter was without work. I have been trying to cancel this tv license- i have phoned then 10 times- i have faxed+emailed+ posted all the affidavits (3) that i do have a license - i am not paying 2 tv license-if we all stay in one house - They are ignoring all my mails+ and phone call-Today i received A NEW Invoice on my adres -This is so wrong- Why are the poeple not doing there work- This is really pathetic-

    In 1999 I sold my TV and contacted the SABC to find out what the procedure was to cancel my licence. They told me I had to write them a letter, have it validated at a police station and then to fax them the letter as well as proof of the sale of my TV. All the above was done exactly as instructed by the SABC. A year later I received a threatening lawyer's letter that I was in arrears etc. I replied to the letter copied all the documentation, attached it and sent it off by registered mail. A few months later the same legal firm threatened me with court once more. Again I replied, attached all the documentation and sent it off registered mail. Never, all through this debacle have I received any communication from the SABC.

    During the period 1999 - 2006 I had no TV. In 2007 I acquired a TV and paid the licence fee. Suddenly, four years later, threatening telephone calls started because my TV licence was thousands in arrears caused by all the penalties accrued from 1999 for non payment. I explained the above to the caller on numerous occasions with no result. During the period mentioned I had moved house twice and after five years destroyed all the pertinent documentation.

    Finally, receiving an account via snail mail and recently by e-mail, I went to see my lawyer. He told me about his own problem, the times he had written the SABC to get a licence cancelled and all the threatening letters and calls he had received over the years. By law one is required to keep documentation for three years after which time it can be destroyed. This lawyer killed himself laughing when I explained the situation to him and told me to call him only if the bailiff comes knocking on my door. His advice was to totally ignore all the accounts and threads as the SABC is totally inept and does not know what is going on in their own organization,

    I find this entire situation pathetic and upsetting!

    I have been tying to cancel my tv licence since 03-2013. It is still not done after countless mails and expensive cross border phone calls. All the correct forms and info is however at the cancellation department, but there is apparently no way of speaking to any of them there to find out why it is not yet done. In the meanwhile I am receiving mails stating that penalties has been added and now there is one sent of final warning. This is ridicules and I refuse to pay any amount, because there was no money outstanding at the time I started the cancellation process. I am completely frustrated and don't know where to complain any more to get results. Consultants(whose names I have) do not want to tell me where to complain and keep giving me non existing numbers. Because of my struggle and not being able to go there, because I am not staying in SA any more, I have decided to post on every sit I can until I get some assistance.

    I would like to buy a new tv set but need my tv license which is paid up - last year I received a letter but this year nothing - how does one get a new tv without proof of a tv license.

    I never owned a TV. My ex husband took out a licence on my ID for the TV. Promising to pay this account. Now, after all these years I must pay for the licence. It is ridiculous. We are divorced more than 7 years and I have not been employed as I have been a stay at home mom. So I can't acquire a TV even if I could afford it. I explained it to the operators, etc. :( :( :(.

    I think the advertisement of POWA = People Opposing Woman Abuse which was on SABC Channel 1921 @ 19H24 is unsuitable and very violent. I find it to be offensive and definately not suitable for any children

    Could you please allow the program called "Wild en Wragtig" a longer broad casting timeslot.
    This is a very interesting and learn full program for the huge hunting lovers of south africa. It should be at least an hour per episode.

    I would like to lay a complaint concerning the way my outstanding TV licence was communicated as well as the fact that for 3 years it stands at R1927, 50
    If the tv license is R265 per year how in the world is it possible for it to come to this amount ??
    If I have not received any communication from SABC for 3 year, all of a sudden in December I get a sms massage telling me that my tv license is overdue
    No documentation was sent to me, of any sort .
    The first sms I got was the 15th of December 2015 .
    I phoned this morning to find out what the sms was about as well as the amount outstanding .
    Just to find out that the SABC still has my old address and that the do have my cell phone number
    Why did they not contact me earlier concerning this, they had to check all my details .
    I would like you to please send me a detailed explanation of the account as well as the dates and amounts that makes it come to R1927, 50
    This is really unacceptable could you assist me regarding this matter .
    I find this entire situation pathetic and upsetting

    I am in the same boat unaware of billing and overcharge monthly when you are not even aware.
    Its a disgrace and they do not respond to emails and nobody will take responsibility for their faults yet poor customers get the raw end again. I dont even watch or support the sabc
