Rhino Engines Run for your lives!

I have sent Rhino Engines my core back in July 2008, as of today January 6, 2009 I have still not received my refund. I have called faithfully every Monday morning to find out where's my money. Cindy has been been assuring me for the last six months that" the refund has been approved and is on its way, it must have somehow fallen through the cracks, but don't worry the refund is on its way, two more weeks." Still no refund. Now on my weekly Monday call, all of Rhino's voice mailboxes are full, except of course if you want to order an engine from them, they are still available to take your money just leave your number and order, and I am sure you will get a call back.
People, if you are reading this, do not order anything from Rhino Engines! Run for your lives!

Rhino Engines Unauthorized billing

On 08/18/08, we ordered an engine from Rhino Engines for a 98 Chevy Blazer. They immediately took the money from my account. The website states anywhere from 2-3 days and our engine would be shipped. After Labor Day, still no engine and no phone calls. Called the company only to be told this is a popular engine for boats and that it would be sent shortly. I called a week later, still no engine, this time I was told it had been shipped. Now I was waiting on a phone call from the delivery company. No phone call from them either. Called Rhino back, was getting the same excuse. Asked to speak to the manager, Tim. He was rude and told me it did not pass inspection, so it would be after 10/07/08. Remember the website states 2-3 days and you will get your engine. On 09/30/08, I had enough of the rude man, called customer service, told them I would need to speak to Tim. He would not answer the phone, so I left a message to cancel my order. I did not receive a return phone call. Emailed them on 10/3/08, I know they got my email, I have return receipt. Called on 10/7/08, finally spoke to Tim, he stated order canceled on 09/30/08. Notice on website states refunds will be made within 5 business days. It is now almost 3 weeks later, I still do not have my money and they will not take any of my phone calls. Make sure this does not happen to you!

Rhino...scam, phony front for a real business. 2-3 day? Hah! Took four weeks after they charged me, and only after I threatened to go to their office, did I finally get engine. Stalled on core deposit for four billing cycles. Now, I still haven't gotten my core return deposit, their website is closed, won't answer any phone lines. I will be contacting the Monroe CO. DA and the sheriff's dept. If this business still is running out of the address posted on the reciept, I will be taking a drive there.

This is a update- Finally got my engine after lots of stress for two months and lossing sleep here and there and over $1, 500.00 in car rental fees not including gas. Took WAY too long. Stay away, stay away. Rhino engines takes your money and you don't get you engine in 2-3 days complete ###. Once your engine is ready and they've been pressured enough...

Rhino Engines ripoff

Be very careful with this company. They promise and confirm shipping of 3 days to get the order. After 10 days of excuses I cancelled the order. I keep getting told that the refund is in process and that they would mail the credit memo. Three weeks of " has been processed" I get a call that it fell thru the cracks. 3 weeks later I still do not have a refund or even the credit memo they were sending.

I suspect that if you place the order you will not get the materials nor a refund but you will get to hear the most annoying canned lip service ever. They have lots of practice.

You may want to try ATK engines. Got it in three days and had the core refund in 2 weeks.

I ordered a engine on 7/18/08. It was not delivered to my mechanic until late July 2008. When my mechanic called to have engine picked up to took several calls. Engine fully was picked up Oct 15, 2008. Have yet to receive refund of core charge. Have called but mailbox is always full; wrote letters but no help there. Stay trying to get in touch with company.

Rhino, ATK, Orient Engines, JER (Japanese engine remanufacturers), Power Pro so on and so on... are all the same group of people from what I can tell. -
I have $1, 900 in a Reman. LB 22R-TEC with overheating/air in coolant issues, which I purchased from "JER". I received with the engine an "engine test report" which claimed the compression was 181-183 lbs. This worried me as the factory spec is 149lbs, 120 min., and here mine is producing only 115 lbs. or so on all four @ less than 3K miles, on head gasket number 2 with ARP Head Studs torqued to 80 ft. Lbs. A. carbon test confirmed my suspicion of exhaust air in cooling system. Which leads me to believe they sent me a bad block. When I called the number on my invoice, I got "ATK". The woman I spoke with said they were not affiliated with JER in any way and believed they went out of business some time ago, and that they probably would not warranty their product, but I should receive a call from the manager tomorrow. We'll see...
Seems to me to be a fly by night, national rip-off business with several alias', which they use to place blame on "the other company". - I wanna be the leader of this pack of pissed off people who want their money back. Can anyone spot me a few bucks for a top-notch lawer?

My brother is also being ripped off by Rhino-they shipped a defective engine and won't stand behind it, won't refund the core from the original engine and won't pay the mechanic as the warranty states. This happened last summer and he still has not been able to get anyone to talk to him about it. I guess that if they went bankrupt that would explain why they won't answer the phone even after the credit card company got involved. Is there anyone who knows what can be done?

The same thing is happening to me. I bought my engine on December of 2007 I am still waiting for my core refund and it's 3/10/09. I called them several times and was told it checked out fine and they had no idea why I hadn't been refunded but I couldn't be pushed to the front of the refund line I would have to wait. Now it has been serveral months and no one answers now the number s out of service and the website is gone! I will be glad to join the class action suit if anyone knows of one please ley me know too.

We bought a transmission for our son back on 9/29/2008. They were slow getting us the transmission, but we did recieve it. However we did get stung for the $250 core re-embursment. They told us it had been recieved on two occasions but had not been inspected yet and as soon as it was inspected our credit card would be credited. It's 2/19/2009 and today I found out that they're website has dissapeared and phone numbers no longer work. I spoke with representative from Man-Trans. L.L.C. who told me they went bankrupt in Dec. 2008. The invoice says "subsidiary of Blue Venture Solutions". Can't find them on the internet either... If anybody knows of a class action let me know I'd like to get mine back too! (my3boys5@comcast.net)... sounds like street corner 3 card Monty to me!

Rhino Engines very poor service

Prior to ordering an engine I called the sales dept. to get an est. on how long it would take to get the engine. I was told by the salesman, "if I ordered it on a Monday, it would be shipped to me by Friday. The engine was ordered on 8/18/2008, today is 10/08/2008 and no engine has been shipped. I call almost daily and get no help. I did finally get to cancel the order. Now when I call about my money being refunded I am told there is no person I can talk to about when I'll get it back. We get no returned phone calls, no responses to e-mails, and get threatened when I do actually talk to someone.

Sounds like these jerks are screwing a lot of people over. I purchased a Rhino engine two years ago (12/07). They were quick to send the engine but a year later the engine was leaking water. I called Rhino engines and they sent the replacement parts and told me to pay the labor and they would reimburse me. I am glad that they sent the parts b/c my truck runs fine now, but the labor that is supposed to be covered under warranty was $700.00. I was told by the warranty dept. that the check was processed and I would receive it in three weeks. Well it has been four months now and I have been calling and leaving messages everyday for the last two months. NO ONE HAS CALLED ME BACK. The email address I have for Craig Smith is no longer a working email and I can not get anyone from any dept. to call me. I am thinking of flying to NY to find some ###s to "talk" to.

Extremely poor service! I have had the same problems as everyone else on this page. Excuses all along the way, no engine for 3 months, poor or no service, and NEVER received core charge back. I will be calling the monroe county sheriffs office, att general, and better business bureau. My engine blew up in less than 3k miles and no call backs or answers to emails. I will get my money back and if there is a class action on them I would love to be in on it.

By the way if any one needs the numbers for the offices to file the same problems like I did, which you should to get your money back and stop them, call these numbers:
Monroe Co. Att. Gen at [protected]
Monroe County Sheriff s at [protected]
NY Monroe County Better Business Bureau at [protected]
or [protected]

thank you dennis for original post of numbers

Got my engine no problem, in reasonable time, June 08 timeframe, though I did call once. They told me they were waiting on parts, but it came pretty soon after. And to date, no problem with the Honda replacement engine. My problem is getting my $200 core refunded. The only time they did answer the phone, I was told they were running behind, but I should see it in two weeks. That was a month ago. I haven't been able to talk to any of them since. Pretty frustrated, but glad to know I'm not the only one. There's strength in numbers

I had a warranty claim on an engine from Rhino Engines. They had me contact ATK, who is the manufacturer of the engine. ATK was fantastic about handling the warranty claim, and they submitted a payment to Rhino for the portion that was covered by warranty. Guess what? I have not recieved the payment from Rhino. I also can not get them to return any phone calls. ATK suggested that I contact this A-hole "Tim". Still no luck. Now they suggested that I take legal action just as they have.

OOOPS. My problems began in 2007, not 2004 as I stated above. By the way, I called the Monroe Atty General number above and they are going to mediate. They have had multiple complaints and knew the company immediately by name.

Thank you for that info.

I hate to break it to all of you but our problems began in 2004 and still are not resolved. We had the same problems as you have had. We ordered an engine for an S-10 in 2004. We did receive the engine, had it installed by a certified engine mechanice and voila - the engine was no good. They finally sent a replacement engine which he had installed by an engine shop and guess what - it was the wrong engine. The third engine is still sitting in the truck which is sitting outside at the engine shop rotting away. the custom rims have rusted out, the floor board has rusted through and it goes on and on. The was a restored 87 S-10. They will do nothing. They will not pay their bill, they will not replace the engine and they will not refund our money. They claim it is all our fault - we did something wrong. Warranty bounces you to sales and sales bounces you to warranty. They are the most obnoxious, rude crew I have ever dealt with. I have even been called the "loud mouthed bit.. in the background by greg. At one point Tim promised full payment within 2 days so my son rented a car. His choice was to lose his job. $1500 in car rental later he bought on old truck just to get to work and back. He just lost his job because of personal problems directly related to this company.
HOWEVER - TIM CONE is the "so called" president of the outfit. And he lies. I would like to suit them and believe we could all do this together.

I agree, call the attorney general today. The more complaints, the more chance of success that they will have to perform their job or reimburse.

I got my engine after waiting over 2 months and $1, 500. in rental fees not including gas. still waiting on that core pick-up and refund but I don't imagine I'll see that. To Tim and Cindy " Go ### Yourself "
