MagicJack Doesn't work with dsl as promised

Magic Jack does not have a customer service rep when you call, they try to force you to order on their hotline. They tell you it works with DSL, sure, it does, but you still need your phone service to use your DSL, therefore, you still have two bills. one for their product and one for your dsl. If you have a cable modem, then you may want to get it, but if you google: Magic Jack complaints, you may want to think twice, because the internet is full of complaints from them. Which is how I found this site. BUYER BEWARE!

I ordered Magic Jack and had 30 days to return for a full refund. I sent it back and did not receive a refund. I was charged $81.64 on my credit card. They said I did not send it back in time, however, when I tried to contact them I could only get on a chat on the website. There is no one to contact and there is no phone number to talk to a real person. For 81.64 I have no magic jack device and no refund either. This company is a total rip-off.

Magicjack did an upgrade last night on 12-15, got up tried to use phone, and magicjack said attention, you have to wait and fill out info form, well I'm still waiting, no one to call for a technical issue which has always been their problem, I have had for 3 or 4 years with intermittent problems, I think it would be wise for the FCC to take a hard look at Magicjacks business practices, especially customer support.

My wife and I are both disabled. We ordered the Magic Jack Plus and put a rush on it. Since our one year ran out a few days ago and they fudged our first order, they want us to pay another 20.00 to use the old one just until our new one gets here. Man, how mean and horrible is that that we cannot call out. That is a screwed up business model.

Magic jack is junk. Many times the voice is garbled and many times now there is no dial tone. You have to keep pulling plug and reinseerting and then it only lasts for a minute of dial tone and you must pull plug again. I want a refund and will try another company. Can you help me et a refund?

I purchased a magic jack and installed it on my computer and it worked for a little while. The volume of the calls were awful. It soon stopped working altogether. I have been trying for the longest to find a number for customer service but have not been able to find one anywhere. I was ripped off and I am pisted off!

Been having problems ever since i purchased the magicjack about 8 mths ago. having to dial the area code for local calls, if cable goes out or has noise in their line calls will develop tons of static or drop calls all together. having to reload the app every time i bring my computer out of hibernation & other little annoyances. save your few pennies. i'm a certified electronic tech.

It is one of the most frustrating experiences I have ever had. There is only a chatting service. People giving you totally different advice, not solving the problem.I lost connection with them several times. It was really bad. It is not as simple to use as it is advertised. I think that they are underserviced when it comes to tech support.Yes, you save money but you will be very frustrated...

Magic jack works fine most of the time but with some incoming and outgoing calls you get a long piano like ring tone which doesn't let you answer the phone and my answering party can't answer me either.

I agree with all of your complaint, if it doesn't work you should get a refund. I know some of these complaint are old but that doesn't matter. The average cost is $39.95 there are 793 complaints on this board that totals out to $31, 680.35. Don`t you think that Magic Jack owes you all some money. Contact the FTC and your state attorney general. they will do something about this. I bet it may be even higher because some people just don`t complain so that amount may just double or more... I bet the news media would have a field day with this. Plus this isn't the only complaint board. Just look at your TV set and see their add they are not cheap and there their using your money to suck more people in...

You can file a complaint on line, just goggle the FTC and your state attorney general office and go to the link and file a complaint. Complaining here won`t get any results. There is nothing wrong with warming others about getting ripped off, I know I almost got sucked in, but checked out any complaint first, and all of your 793 complaints saved me from getting stiffed...

Here`s a link just go down the list until you find your state...Good luck

Everyone here appears to have a valid complaint.

Keep in mind, these people, Magic Jack, are crossing state lines AND using the U.S. Mails and wires to conduct their business. As such, you can file federal complaints against them with the FTC and your state attorney general. You can obtain information on filing complaints by searching for the FTC and your state AG's web site and complaint forms.

Judging by the complaints I see here, it is a strong probability the AG's of more than one state would join forces to chase these people down and drag them to court.

Majic Jack is a magical joke. I too bought mj to save money on my phone bill, I ended up wasting that money anyway. $39.95 plus tax is what I paid, I could've used that money to pay on a REAL phone service. Everyday is another day of not being able to hear the person on the other end, saying "huh, what did you say, I cant hear you"..

The cable provider I use just went up in price, I was thinking of switching to Magic Jack and saving some money. But after reading some of these complaints. I`ll stay with the service I have now, its still cheaper then AT&T. I`m sorry you all got ripped off, using their service. Thankfully I read these complaints first. I would think that your states attorney generals office could help get your money back.

Thankful in CT.

I have had MJ since Dec 08, during this time static, dropped calls and not being able to hear or being heard but stuck with it because there was no phone bill. Now I have moved and went to load my MJ and now my computer does not reconize the MJ, I have cleaned up my computer, loaded drivers, live chat etc. with no luck. I was telling all my friends about MJ, I wish I haden't now. I will not renew my MJ, not worth the stress.

MagicJack They robbed us

We tried Magic Jack for the free 30 day trial (free... lol). Even when it was working, there was at least a 30-60 second delay on outgoing calls, as well as incoming... you answer the phone and hear nothing (on the callers end it is still ringing, even though you have picked up). Then it just stopped working altogether. Don't even get me started on customer service, what customer service? When we did get a live chat tech, we went back and forth for hours, with 0 resolve. We finally returned the device, with in our 30 days, so not to be charged the $50. We got delivery confirmation to prove when they received the magic jack back, and we know they received it. Well, they still charged our bank account for $50. They got their product back and our $50, that is where the scam comes in! I called my bank, and they advised us to file a dispute once the charge clears (its still a pending transaction right now). Hopefully we will get our money back that way. Magic Jack robbed us!

When I bought the magicJack I was excited, but then as I began to use the MagicJack it became very unpredictable as to how it was going to operate when it booted up, sometimes it would come on right away, then sometimes I would look at " starting please wait" for 20 minutes or so, I might also add than my computer was completely inoperable during the time of waiting and waiting for a dial tone.

Sometimes after it came on I would make a call and hear the phone ringing thru my speakers, then sometimes I would get thru to who I was calling and they couldn't hear me, sometimes I would dial a number and nothing would happen, sometimes I would try to use the voice mail and hit the * key when I heard a voice and the voice kept talking, I hit the * key many times and nothing. This MagicJack is obviously a scam and has stressed me out terribly.

I can't believe I cancelled my phone service for this piece of crap, there is absolutely no consistency when you turn it on, as to what it's going to do, I have no way of getting my money back, I think I'm stuck with this little devil, anybody have any idea's.

When I emailed Greg at greg.wood@magicjack.com he accused me of being very sarcastic and told me that my complaints about the MagiJack were of an unusual nature, I have since emailed him many times and he has yet to answer.

I tried installing 2 magicjacks into 2 computers, used 2 different phones
for about 10 hours and to no avail.

But I have Norton by Symantec and UNINSTALLED it...

And Wallah... IT WORKED!

I think that it is incompatible with any NORTON software.

Just try it, uninstall norton, hook up y9our magicjack and see what happens.

Let me know if it works fo you guys.

I would not recommend MagicJack to anyone. I was Charged $47 when i ordered but charged $66 on my credit card. After chatting with Magic rep (i am pretty sure that first rep is a automated system - then you get send to next level after 15 min of useless chatting), they said they would refunded my second year subscription that i didn't order. But reading other threads, I am doubtful that i will actually be getting my refund. In my opinion, this company lacks integrity and is not a reliable company - especially to provide a necessary service.

MagicJack Scam and cheating

I ordered this from a TV ad on 5/15/08 which stated that you had 30 days to use it before being charged. I was charged immediately in the amount of $47.90. I finally received the Magic Jack and it does not work on my computer. There is not a telephone number for the company with the package nor is there one provided on their website.

Please advise smb!

I have had my Magic jack for years now and have never had a problem of any kind with it.
Maybe I am one of the lucky ones or maybe the Company has changed it's ethics codes.
I have been on their chat lines regarding hookup and setup without any problems.
It has been hooked to my desktop computer, my laptop and my netbook without any problems whatever.
And it still works well to this day!
Would I buy another one...Yes I would
But hopefully I will have as much good luck with the new one as I have had with the old one.

I have bought 4 magic jacks over the past several years and encouraged several others to do the same. and I am also the proud owner of 5 years of service plus 1000 hrs of long distance calling. In 2013 I received an email advising of the new best magic jack adapter, you know the new 2014 model. Well don't buy it.Its bigger doesn't fit the usb ports on your computer well and It doesn't work as a stand alone device either. I have spent countless hours on the phone with MJ's techies and would get it set up so it works but the minute you shut it off your back at square one again. So I decided that the stand alone version wouldn't work . I plugged it into my deck top which was new at the end of 2013. It worked for a bit but gradually that " the best sound quality ever " couldn't be heard any more, People were calling in, it would ring but the line would be dead when you answered It. I called Magic Jack and asked if I could go back my previous model, Nope not unless I set it up on a new account. Finally after 3 years of trial and error I gave up and ordered a residential service from my local carrier. i have spent 350.00 for cheap crappy phone service so I guess you could say what a bargain that's 116.66 a year for phone service but truth be told it's frustratingly unreliable, it drops calls, nothing is free in the end, You only get what you pay for.

Magic Jack is a joke. I bought the new magic jack plus last year, they sent me four and billed me for five! My bank reimbursed me for two and I returned two to Magic Jack. I am now trying to register my new product and I cannot. I was told my account is under review. I was told to wait 24-48 hours. Its now been a week. I try contacting them everyday and it's just a joke. They say you can ask at anytime to have your matter escalated to a manager, but that is a lie. I ask everyday and I am told the same thing. They'll get back to me. They are never going to get back to me. Their chat representatives can barely have a conversation with you. They barely speak any English, and when I asked where they were, they got offended and ended our chat. This is a joke. They are dishonest and unprofessional. What kind of company makes it this hard for their customers to actually be able to get a hold of them and speak with someone who can actually help them? How are they able to continue doing business this way? I see the endless amount of complaints here. Something has to be done about this!

I ordered the magic jack due to free trial and would not bill for 30 days however at the end said it would bill immediately. so i closed out without hitting the ship now. guess what order still go processed and shipped out even after I replied to the order email within hours saying I didn't want it if it was billing me now. I then talked to a customer service rep who assured me that i would get a credit back on my card until my 30 day trial and allow 3 days what a shock nothing was done about it after all most a week so i ask today and he says well no credit so i said fine I am shipping it back would have just put return to sender on it previously. I explained don't want to do business with a company that is not standing behind its word for the get go. the red flag should have really been for me when they shipped it without conformation. I even contacted my bank about the charges as well. Customer service is a scam. I highly doubt I will see my money back now even after i return this thing.

I ordered a Magic Jack in August. It worked reasonably well for the first month and a half. A week or so after they got my payment, the program went crazy, with constant "Autorun.exe" errors. The program also kept cycling on and off, so if it ever did log on, it shut itself down before you could make a call, then restarted itself, ad-infinitum.

I spent two hours online with a high level tech support, deleting and reloading the program, installing "fixes", making deep tweaks and modifications to my computer (such as changing permissions on the USB ports, deleting files and folders, turning off the fire wall, etc.).

Next, they asked if I was using the extension they provided to reach the USB port, and told me to plug Magic Jack directly into the USB. Unfortunately, the thing's so fat that it wouldn't fit in my port, unless I removed every other USB jack.

Then they tried to get me to delete all unnecessary games and files from my computer. When none of that worked, they told me to run a speed test (which showed my download speed to be 5023, and upload to be 286. Then they tried to blame it on my service provider, and claim I should request them to improve my upload speeds. They said if that doesn't work, try it on a friend's computer. I don't have any problems with any other applications running on my computer, and used Vonage for years without any such incident.

Sorry, but if two hours of deep tech support can't resolve the problem, MagicJack is not ready from prime-time, as far as I'm concerned. Back to Vonage for me.

My parents got one, thinking it might make a good backup phone. They are not strong on computer skills, so they thought it was not set up properly, asked for some help. It was set up properly. It would not accept calls. A message said that the number [protected])(why an extra 01 on the end?) is not available, offers to put you into voicemail. It made one call using a headset. It was very distorted and echoed. It could not get a dial tone or make a call from a telephone.

Later it would not work at all.

Magic jack advertised unlimited calling for Local and longdistance calls in USA, after using it for one and half months they blocked the service and asked to call a given number(automated) when I call this number after lot of trials got to a rep who says my magic jack was blocked due to high call volume (advertised as unlimited) and referred me to fineprint in agreement saying they can cancel the service if they F****ing feel its over used... the rep refused to give me what my usage was and what the limit which they call as over usage.

The Magic Jack website is very misleading. I activated my Magic Jack today. I wanted to upgrade to the 5 yr plan and purchased what I thought was the upgrade. Instead, I received a confirmation email stating that I'd purchased a new magic jack and the address listed in the order lacked a house number.

The confirmation email stated that if I wanted to change the order, I need only reply to the email, but upon sending a reply I received another message telling me that the reply address is no longer active. This new message had a 'Contact Support' link. Upon clicking the link, you receive a another message stating 'The resource you are requesting was not found. Please contact our site', and you're immediately transferred to: http://www.magicjack.com/9/index.asp where the video of the daughter of the inventor of Magic Jack echoes the praises of Magic Jack, such a pathetic move by Magic Jack. I really feel sorry for that little girl. It'll be quite an eye opener for her to find out that her dad is a fraud, and used her to promote community trust. And, of course, on that page you have many links of information that will get you no where.

I telephoned my bank to cancel the transaction, but was advised that since the transaction was pending, there was nothing they could do until the money posted. My bank gave me a telephone number for Magic Jack billing: [protected]. When I telephoned Magic Jack billing, I received a recording giving me a choice to either go to back to the website or to telephone another billing number where a live operator would answer 24/7. That number is: [protected] . Needless to say, when I telephoned, I was placed on hold for over 15 minutes listening to their holiday music. Then the music went off and it appeared that my call was picked up, but no one would say a word, the silence went on for an additional 5 minutes, and then I was hung up on. I never spoke to anyone. I made an attempt three times to reach a live billing representative, only to net the same results.

I trust that my bank will assist me in the return of my money, so I'll chalk it up as a 'lesson learned'. However, I do want to blast Los Angeles Times, CNBC, The Boston Globe, The New York Times, BBC, LAPTOP, and PC Magazine for continuing to allow them to use their company name and logos as endorsements on the Magic Jack site. I really believe that as consumers we should also hold these companies accountable for the scam we have been subjected to. We trust these entities to provide us accurate and trustworthy information, and Magic Jack knows that, that's why these companies are listed on the Magic Jack site.

As SCAMMED consumers, I hope you will take the time to write the companies listed above and let them know how they have assisted in scamming and hurting the community. And, insist that they remove their company logo from the Magic Jack website.

MagicJack Beware

If you want to be scammed MagicJack is the right company for you. They advertise your credit card will not be charged give a 30 date but they fail to tell you is your 30 free trial starts the day of your order and in two days they bill your cc the full amount they don’t have customer service except for chat no address or phone number.

Better keep you RMA number and all emails so you can dispute with your Credit Card Company which I plan to do. It might be a good product but the way the company rounds it business *** big time so beware!

We purchased a magicjack to try at our home. I own a small business and my home # is also my business #. Since we installed the magicjack i have had no phone service. Anytime someone calls in or i call out its so distorted you cant hear anything. I tried to get customer service but have been unable to even get any help from any one unless i pay 38. 00 to have a question answered. There is no phone # to be found to call and spesk to any one about whats happening. I decided to go with another phone carrier and now magicjack is telling me that the only way to port my # to the company i have chosen is if i pay 32. 50 to have the number ported. I am so dissatisfied with magicjack. My business has suffered due to the fact that the magicjack hasnt worked like they advertiseed it would. I think magicjack is a serious rip off to a lot of people and they should be ashamed of their selfs. I hope and pray that i never run my business in the manner in which they have. If they arent even willing to provide a customer service # they shouldnt sell the product. Magicjack is a ripoff and i suggest anyone thinking about using magicjack not to get wrapped up in their mess.

MagicJack Will not give refund

I had ordered Magicjack off of their website. Once I received the device I realized that it would not work with my area code. Once I contacted magicjack; via their chat sessions. (Since they don't have a phone number you can call.) They insisted that I keep the device but could not tell me when my area code would become available. So, I should just hold onto the thing not knowing when or if I would ever be able to use it. I went through their website to obtain an RMA number to return the product. I wrote this number on the outside of the package but failed to keep this number for myself. I had returned the device before my 30 day trial period was up. They advertise that if you return their product before the 30 days that you will not be charged. HA! They charged me $46.90 right on schedule. I have chatted with about 6 different "agents" and still have not gotten anywhere. They keep asking me for my RMA number. (Which I didn't keep) I told them they should be able to retreive that information off of their website. The last agent told me that it was my credit card company that was the hold up. Something to do with their refund policy. I told him that I did not pay for this item with a credit card and that it was debited out of my checking account. He replied that it was all the same. I told him that it has been almost 2 months now that they have had their product and it was time to give me my money. I threatened to contact the BBB. I told him that any other normal place of business; when confronted with a return, does not have the option to keep the product and the money. He just left the conversation with please be patient and I will TRY to resolve this issue. I advise everyone to stay clear of this company! If they can't even afford a phone to handle customer calls that should be a red flag! Not only that, but you have to wonder what kind of people they are hiring to be their "agents". Half of them can't spell and the other half of them keep saying the same thing over and over. You begin to wonder if it a computer programmed to say the same thing over and over. Buyer Beware!

I ordered the MagicJack, received it, but never opened it because I was still trying to ascertain the cost/involvement of dropping my land line. Turns out that I would not be able to drop my land line without a ton of hassle, so I opted to return the MagicJack. When I requested an RMA, they refused me because I was past the 30-day return deadline. Their customer service was HORRIBLE. I even spoke to a "supervisor" who was more rude than the customer rep! They were not interested at all in my plight and would not provide me any info about management or anyone else to contact. To date, I am stuck with the unopened product and the bill for the product. WHAT A HUGE RIP OFF! I even e-mailed their site and of course got no response... Companies like this should be illegal.

I have been hung up on (in chat window) twice now. If you are wanting to get the upgraded version of magic jack, DON'T
you can have your own upgrade by plugging yours into a usb adapter.

I renewed my subscription and magicjack billed me 32.07 for automatic renewal fees that I never requested. They also add 3.27 regulatory charges to my accounts twice so that instead of paying $29.00 plus $10.00 for canadian number I was instead billed for $43.07 and 32.00 for the service. I called and had the shock of my life when the agent of line divulged these charges to me and could not tell me when if ever my money will be refunded.
I was asked to connect to an email address to confirm my cancellation and the was a site error message on the link. I do not know how magic jack can just bill their customers for services they never requested and then add regulatory charges on my account without first informing me. Is their anyone who has had this problem that can advise me on how I can get subscription cancelled and my refund

I really like my Magicjack, maybe you could sell yours on Craigslist and get some of your money back?

It does not sound right to me.
I have had the same situation. I ordered the product from the television, and was billed the same day. I was told that I was over 30 days trial period. During the free trail I had a difficulty to use the service. Because the quality of service was very poor and I was not able to communicate properly. Line was disconnected during the conversation and took a while to get a signal back. There is no telephone number to communicate with customer service. I do not know what I should do. Does any body know the customer service telephone number that I can communicate with. tnamjou@yahoo.com
Does that sound right to you?

I have had the same situation. I ordered the product from the television, and was billed the same day. Charges of $46.90 appeared on my bank statement within four days. I have discovered that I am in an area that only offers Dial Up Service and the product won't work with it. I was told that I was over 30 days trial period, even though they know that I never used the product. Had not set up anything, no phone number, etc. Yet, was told that they could not refund my money and product could not be returned. They would not even accept the completed RMA form. Instead, I was told, "you are not in the trial anymore so better use the product and save hundreds of dollars every year".
Does that sound right to you?

It has been over a week since i shipped by magicjack back and have the usps verification that it was received. Per a chat session i was assured that as soon as it was received I would receive my refund...but it is the bank that holds up the refund process (BS...but ok). To date I have not received the email from magicjack that I was told I would receive once the item was returned. The contact live support on their website does not seem to work. Guess I'll be disputing all charges with the bank in the morning! Be very careful when dealing with this company.

I have the same experience chatting with the MJ agents they keep on asking the same things, though I have not returned it yet but I am going to do so soon if I don't hear from them, the 2 business days are over 3 days back and still have not heard from them.
