I am an avid watch collector and recently moved to Edmonton for work. To begin, Edmonton is not an international city with too many high end luxury watch retailers. Having seen a Gemoro billboard on the city streets, I went into their lower level store in West Edmonton Mall only to be greeted by rude stares from a black haired and blonde haired sales woman. After receiving their glances, being ignored, I noticed a young dark haired salesman across the counter eyed the Breitling for Bentley on my wrist and came over to ask what he could do for me. I told him that I was looking for a gold rolex GMT. He was rude, not helpful, scoffed at me, and walked away. I was completely caught off guard by his attitude and behavior. Having purchased over a dozen watches from Blancpain to Zenith, I have never been so belittled until I stepped into Gemoro. Having done a great deal of research on the Rolex on watch forums and talking to GMT owners, I expected to pay a certain price. I talked to the watchmaker who made himself available to me after 18 minutes of waiting. He then proceeded to dismiss me after I asked him some questions on cash pricing. The following week after talking to colleagues at work about recommending to me an AD's in Edmonton for Rolex watches. They pointed me to Swedish Jewelers across from Holt in downtown and also Independent Jewelers that re-sell used Rolex's. I wanted all new and I had a specific model in mind so I proceeded to Swedish, was warmly greeted by a grey haired salesman and they beat my price expectation for the gold Rolex GMT PLUS they gave me a free gift. Wow! I was really taken away with their level of customer service, professionalism, and friendliness. The one thing that I wasn't so fond of was looking for a parking space but the entire shopping experience was very pleasurable. Gemoro staff is unprofessional, rude, dismissive, and uninformed on product lineups. Gemoro will never see my business or my presence ever again nor will I ever recommend them to anybody.

There's more than one complain about this goldsmith but hear my story on this thread cause I like hi-end watches to. I live in Banff and sometimes do shopping trips in edmonton. I enjoy omega watches and there are some jewelery stores in calgary that sell them but I want to try my luck in edmonton gemoro in edmonton west mall. Like edmonton west malls a big deal cause its an attraction so it gets lots of people. Maybe its me cause I dress shabby that day? I never walked into a jewelery store with any thing more than jeans on anyways. I pretty much knew what I wanted but I wanted to try on the midsize watch and the full size watch just to get a feel for them cause I only saw them on the website. The sales opened up the display case and took out the watch but wouldn't hand it over to me. I was like "are you going to let me try it on?" and then sales put it back in the display case even before I asked about price and then greeted an older guy beside me and helped him instead. I got enough money to buy that watch. So I guess its not only me cause I was wearing jeans in that store. I got the watch I wanted at costco in calgary. LOL

i can agree with you gents that the service is terrible audatious and bluntly to needy like you must buy something witch is not how i like shopping, the minute someone says may i help you and i say not yet and they leave me be then im happy. this place they attack you like your a calf getting a drink of water, but i recently went there again looking at a zenith zero gravity and this brand new young guy named charles helped me he doesnt know all about all the watches but he tries his best to make you have a good experience and thats what i liked so if you do decide to go here a shop ask for him and be patient.
he doesnt care if you buy he just likes helping and making sure your happy.
But make sure your adiment about having him help you cause the others will try and take over from him.

I WOULD HAVE GIVER NO STARS IF POSSIBLE... I BROUGHT MY TENNIS BRACELET TO THE GEMOLOGIST ON STAFF MICHEAL. HE TOLD ME HE WOULD LOOK AT IT, AFTER 20MIN HE CAME BACK AND TOLD ME THAT MY 5CT TENNIS BRACELET ONLY HAD 4CT. HE THEN PROCEEDED TO TELL ME THAT I WAS RIPPED OFF. WHEN I QUESTIONED HIM IF HE WAS SURE IT DIDN'T HAVE 5CT HE TOLD ME HE WASN'T CERTAIN IT WAS HIS ESTIMATE. I WAS VERY UPSET AND TOLD HIM THAT I DIDN'T WANT AN APPRAISAL THAT WASN'T GIVING AN ACCURATE VALUE TO MY BRACELET. THAT'S WHEN HE REACHED INTO MY BABY STROLLER AND GRABBED MY CAR KEYS. I WAS COMPLETELY SHOCKED, THEN HE STARTED WALKING OUT OF THE STORE AND INTO THE MALL WITH MY KEYS. I HAD TO CALL SECURITY TO GET MY KEYS RETURNED TO ME. HE KEPT DEMANDING THAT I PAY HIM 40 CASH BECAUSE HE DIDN'T TRULY WORK THERE, HE WAS CONTRACTING HIS SERVICES OUT. IT WAS CRAZY, HE DIDN'T EVEN DEMAND I PAY, HE JUST GRABBED MY KEYS FROM MY STROLLER.

PLEASE DON'T GIVE THESE PEOPLE ANY OF YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY. THEY ARE VERY UNCONSCIONABLE AND SHOULD BE PUT OUT OF BUSINESS. IF THEY COULD TREAT ME THIS WAY, BEING VERY NON THREATENING, THEY CAN DO IT TO YOU TOO. I WAS WITH MY 7MONTH OLD AND THIS GEMOLOGIST WAS COMPLETELY CRAZED.

I have had mixed experiences when buying products here, some of the sales people are fairly knowledgable and helpful (some know next to nothing about the products however), but on the whole they are quite rude and snotty, and they clearly do ignore potential customers based on their appearance.

Worse than this though is their after-sales service, they tried to charge me $75 'shipping' for in-warranty service on an Omega watch that I purchased there. When I phoned Omega Toronto's customer service they sounded quite shocked at this.

They are the only authorised dealer in Edmonton for several brands, however based on their terrible after-sales service (I basically have to ship the watch back to Omega myself), I would buy instead from any other authorised dealer in Canada or the U.S. - there is no advantage to buying from Gemoro as they have no interest in you once they have taken your money.

I agree with the 1st post. the sales people there are outright rude and classless. my wife and I went there and I was really looking to buy a submariner as a gift for myself after getting my professional commissions done. we were dressed casually and was looking at the display cases where the rolexes were when I noticed somebody staring at me from the door. I turned and I saw this lady looking at us and smirking as if wondering what the hell we were doing there! we continued to look at some displays when my wife said she overheard the lady talk to the other girl and said "oh, they're just dreaming!" we were furious! I would have bought a watch right there and then, but composed myself and reminded myself that these "sales" agents earn their money by commission! so in short, we went out there knowing that I had the last laugh since they didn't earn a penny off of me! I went to to their competition downtown, an AD in holt and I am very happy!

I felt the same way when I went to Gemoro in the mall. I was followed around by the sales person from counter to counter. I was looking at buying a 5K Omega so wanted to take my time. I was shown the Omega watch and liked it a lot but the salesman treated me like I knew nothing about watches (maybe it was my jeans and dirty shoes?). We started talking about price and the most he could to was a %10 discount. I tried talking him down more but he would not budge. I left the store at this point. I then came back later with my wife and we looked at the watch again and the salesman started talking about how the bracelet won't pull the hair out on my wrist. Wow. I'm going to drop 5K on a watch and you try and sell me on the fact it won't pull out my hair. He also did not know it has a screw down crown. Needless to say I left. I went to the Gemoro downtown on Jasper Ave. and when I walked in the sales lady immediately asked me what I was looking for. I told her the Omega's and she asked me what model and she showed it to me. I know my watches and she knew it too so she did not treat me like i'm stupid and patronize me. I saw the model I wanted and it was more expensive than the one in the mall AND she gave me a better discount. After I tried it on she did not ask me 'do you want to buy it?' but asked if she should start sizing it for me which I though was polite. I said yes and went and got the cash. When I came back she had it sized up and started filling out the cards and did not even mention the money. She just took the cash after all was done and that was it. She was excellent and professional. If you shop at Gemoro go to the one downtown on Jasper.

I question the neutrality of a couple of the posters... this software offers a spell check, but doesn't help if you don't know which witch is which. I suspect the same people wrote a couple of the reports. That said, I've never had issue with Gemoro and I have barely purchased anything from them. Its true - hungry people sometimes are goofy people and sales people that can't sell you a Rolex may be miffed that you aren't interested in the area that they govern. Not an excuse - just saying people are people, and sometimes hunger affects them in funny ways.

High end watches are overpriced mostly because so few people are wiling to spend the time even if they can afford them. And because most people want to kick tires before they take the plunge, a lot of man hours are spent devoted to show and tell. And as far as Swedish giving you a super break - may give some insight as to why they went bankrupt a year ago. Just sayin...

Yesterday, I went to look at Ritani engagement rings at GemOro Goldsmith at 187-10150 Jasper Ave NW, Edmonton AB, as they're the exclusive retailer in Edmonton. I had priced out comparable rings in Tacori and Veragio and experienced nothing but exceptional customer service at their retailers. This was not the case at GemOro. I was appalled by the poor customer service. When we came into the store the staff were on the phone and didn't acknowledge us. I made the horrendous commute downtown, and found and paid for parking, for a very specific reason. I smiled at two other staff near the back of the store who gave me a dirty look. In their defence, one of the women was helpful enough to show me two rings I had come to compare; however, when I asked her for an approximate price she scowled me, saying that I should come back with my boyfriend when I am ready to purchase! I wasted the next 15 minutes building a case for the importance of having an approximate price so that we could budget, etc... In the two minutes it took to generate a price using a computer system I tried to reconcile the relationship. I tried building rapport by asking meaningful questions. Again I received a hasty response that left me feeling belittled and underappreciated. The Ritani ring lived up to be everything I was expecting but unfortunately, I will not be supporting this store with a $10, 0000 purchase. There is a lot of good competition in the engagement sector and I am determined to take my business elsewhere, even if it means paying more!
