Culligan faulty installation

I purchased a home with an installed/leased Reverse Osmosis System installed from Culligan Water Systems in Kennewick, WA.

Shortly after purchasing the home I requested a service call to my house from the local CW office, when the appointment was made I requested the service technician to run a hook up from the RO system installed under my sink to the refrigerator on the other side of my kitchen, that entailed running tubing along the beams in the basement and then thought the floor to therefrigerator.

Shortly after installing the new tubing/fittings to the refrigerator I noticed water puddling up on my floor. I called Culligan and asked them to send investigate the leak and make repairs as needed. They sent a service tech and office manager to my house, looked at the fittings and determined the fitting they installed was faulty and accepted responsibility for the resulting water damage caused by the faulty connection. The local Culligan office also said they would make repairs to the hard wood flooring damaged by the leaky fitting.

They later reneged on the offer to make the repairs they promised. I turned it over to my insurance company along with pictures taken during the time Culligan was at my house. My insurance company attempted to make them pay for the damages but they still refused saying the damage was accidental and they had no way of knowing the fittings would leak.

My insurance company paid for the repairs and I had Culligan come remove their leased RO from my house. I installed a new system and connection to the fridge myself.

Do not use Culligan Water Systems from Kennewick, WA.

Culligan snotty and rude

Stopped at my local Culligan store. Asked about purchasing a new part which I had with me. Store manager said that a man would have to come out and check the whole softener. I said the softener is getting old and I did not want to put alot of money back into it with the sevice call and everything. He then suggested that all the cost done could be put towards a new one if we decided not to fix it. I then asked him what the part would cost? He said "*** I don't know". He then asked when the last time was that they looked at it? So he went to the file and then went on how we have had it for 20 yrs. and it should be looked at and also our water needs to be tested. I asked again, "how much for the part?" He said again "***, I don't know. I'll have to look it up on the computer." He finally came back and said it would be 30 some dollars for the part and another $20.00 for his time. I asked, "are you serious?" He said, you bet I am serious!. I set the part on the counter and walked out. Will never have any dealings with Culligan again!

Most Culligan dealerships are run this way. Just curious what location did this to you? You should find out if it was a corporate owned store or a local franchise. If it was a corporate owned store I would recommend calling and filing a complaint with the corporate offices in Rosemont, IL. Unfortunately, if it is a franchise they can pretty much do whatever they want. I have a Culligan system but I looked around for small, local water treatment companies and found many that will repair Culligan units for much cheaper or they would be happy to simply sell you a part. These big corporations think that you have no choice but to deal with them but in reality you can find a company to help you outside of a Culligan dealership. Good Luck!

Culligan bad service

I rented a new Iron Plus Water softner from Culligan of Northwest Ohio in Feb. 2009. They were charging us $61.00 a month + the salt.

We have had nothing but problems with it. It never took out any of the iron from our water well system. They were here numerous times taking water samples and making ajustments. We finally got tired of it and told them to come take their softner out and reinstall our old one. They did come and remove it finally. Two days later I get a bill for $247.00 for reinstalling our old unit. I am extremeely disapointed in the whole situation.

I had Culligan from Corriganville, Md. come to my home to install their unit Replacing a Rain soft unit that never worked . That was in 7/27/07 . Unit was using 6-7 bags of salt a month & I had them come out numerous times to correct, repair or service it (with a charge each visit of $100.00 min. some more. After 5 yrs. of this I was told I needed the tanks relined (Cost me $500.00) . Oh! I failed to say that for the last two yrs. I was using NO SALT AT ALL . They installed a temp. tank (from 2 tanks to 1 tank now) during that time system worked fine . Brought my 2 (now relined) tanks back. system worked for about 2 weeks before I added salt. It's now been about 4 months Now & it still ain't using salt. Also turning everything red . Is there no answer to this or am I dealing with imbeciles...or am I one?

Culligan do not do business with this company

Culligan Water of Nokomis Florida left a small empty bottle on my door claiming free water testing in your area. This was the start to a nightmare with this company. After they test your water they come out to "talk to about the test" which is actually a sales call. They told us we had an iron problem and bacteria ridden water which could harm our 2 year old daughter The system was almost $6500.00. After saying no way this system suddenly he had something that could do the job for $1600.00 because he had it left over from a deal that didn't fall through. We stupidly agreed to buy the system which was only available today of course. On top of all this their salesmen then told us our water softener was not set properly, he made some small adjustments which we found out in weeks to come he actually shut it off so it would not cycle. You decide accidental or purposely? Then when he came back four weeks later to retest the water we complained that our water was worse not better. He stated we probably needed our water softener rebedded. Yes more money! With my appliances not working properly I made several calls to Culligan to get the problem rectified, their own service rep agreed something just wasn't right but he couldn't help us. After getting a manager to our home we were basically told to deal with it they won't take the system back. The quality of our water is worse then when we started and we still owe them $1660.00. DON'T DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY, IF YOU DON"T HAVE A PROBLEM THEY'LL CREATE ONE!

Culligan poor service

This is the second time Culligan has provided wrong product to their water filtration system. In addition the Culligan office also did not inform me TWICE that they had not received the parts they "ordered." I called then when I had not heard from them. And they assured me the parts were coming in. I had to cancel the plumber call twice. Finally, they said they had the parts. They didn't! They gave me a used part and a part they fit a different model. I still had to pay for the plumber and now I'll have to pay thousands to put in a new system. And when I brought this up with the HQ Office secretary she was beyond rude.

Culligan scam and cheating

I contacted Culligan about installing a water softener in early 2006. We subsequently signed a contract and they came to my house and installed the required units.

Three weeks ago, during a plumbing inspection related to an addition to the house, the inspector saw that the installation was done improperly and issued a citation. The building code calls for a backflow preventer be installed on the main water supply line and an expansion tank on the hot water heater. He mentioned that only liscenced plumbers are allowed by code to make new installations of water softeners and that Culligan's technicians do not have any sort of plumbing qualifications to do they installation that they did.

I spoke to both the Operations Manager (who came to our house) and the Genral Manager on four separate occasions. The Operations Manager acknowledged that the code calls for the indicated backflow preventer and and expansion tank, even though they did not serve any value. He promised to contact the building inspector and contact me which he never did despite numerous messages left with him. I escalated to the General manager at the office who also indicated he would investigate and respond, which he never did. I called him back and he repeatedly said Culligan is authorized to do the installation that they did even though it was in contravention of the building code. He finally said that it was the homeowner's responsibility to know the building code and to make arrangements for a proper installation. It appears they are blatantly performing installations and hoping not to get caught.

Culligan will find every way they can to screw you. I had a system put in 15 years ago and it has cost me a fortune to maintain. I have their house water filter unit too. The clear housing cracked so I called the Irving, TX Culligan office and asked if they sell the housing replacement which they said they did. I happened to ask how much before I drove over there, and boy, am I glad I did. They wanted $350.00 for the piece. You can buy the whole Culligan unit from Amazon for $29.80, with free shipping.
You had better watch out doing business with this company.

I recently purchased a 4-story apartment building in Santa Ana, CA, and we are in the midst of remodeling and repairs. We are contemplating adding water treatment systems to the units for marketing purposes, and this information is making us second guess things. Spending upwards of $50, 000 for equipment that may ultimately lead to water quality issues and unhappy tenants is not a wise business decision! Thank you for posting this information, and I will be speaking to friends about the lack of regulations in this industry as well as calling Culligan to respond to these details. I find it alarming that a company as large as Culligan is knowingly installing systems without proper licensing and training.

Culligan improperly installed a water softener in our house. The culligan-treated water was harder than our untreated water & very corrosive. Corrosive water causes leaching of copper from copper pipes. The Culligan-treated water contained acetone and a very high copper level (15mg/L) - more than 10 times the EPA's safe limit of 1.3mg/L. The untreated household water had copper levels at .05mg/L & contained no acetone. My daughter & I both had symptoms which were consistent with copper poisoning. My daughter now has ulcerative colitis. Culligan was negligent when they incorrectly installed the softener. There are currently no federal/state safety regulations on these devices. Culligan is installing plumbing without a plumbers license, they are failing to obtain city permits, and in our city, they are installing units which are prohibited by the city. I have reported Culligan to the city, state, and federal authorities. We have spent over $50, 000 in litigation fees & medical costs and in the end, we may end up with nothing. We removed the "gag order" in our settlement. Our settlement is still pending & we may void it & decide to go to trial. I can't tell you how frustrating this has been for us. Culligan was negligent and we got hurt. I wonder how many others there are out there who are being exposed to their negligence and are suffering from the same symptoms as we did. Companies like Culligan need to be regulated and there needs to be enforcement of safe and legal installation procedures. If any of this sounds like something that you've experienced or, you have anything to add please contact me

We recently attempted to sue Culligan water, Inc. for a faulty whole house potassium water treatment system that poisoned our drinking water. We rented a potassium whole house water softener which was maintained by Culligan. My daughter was physically harmed, and while Culligan admitted to their negligence causing the poisoned water, they refuse to take action to prevent further damage to others. We requested that Culligan locate the faulty unit that was taken out of our home, they refused and admitted that they don't know where it is & it could be in someone else's home right now!
Culligan offered us money to keep this incident confidential but we refused, and removed any confidentiality clauses so that we may tell our story & prevent others from being harmed by Culligan's negligence.
Culligan "sold" us on the potassium whole house water softener, claiming that it would be safe for our family, even our 12yo daughter who has a kidney condition. I later discovered that The W.H.O. warns that those with cardiac or kidney disease should talk to their doctor before using potassium water softeners. Culligan should have known this!
Toxicologist & water analysis reports from Associated Labs verify that Culligan-treated water had copper sulphate values at 14.9mg/L, which is more than 10-fold the EPA 's MCL of 1.3mg/L (untreated household water had copper levels of .05mg/L). Culligan-treated water also contained acetone (maybe from glue on filters?), untreated household water had no acetone detected. The culligan-treated water had a very high hardness level (the culligan system was suppose to be softening the water) & the untreated household water had a much lower total hardness level than the treated water. The culligan treated water was harder and more corrosive than untreated water & it caused leaching from our copper pipes, which caused copper levels to be at toxic levels in our drinking water. My 12yo daughter & I had documented symptoms which were consistant with copper poisoning. My daughter's symptoms were worse, she had bloody diarrhea and was anemic. After the system was removed by culligan, our symptoms got better.

My goal is to prevent others from being harmed by Culligan's negligence & to make them be accountable for providing safe treated water. Maybe they should be required to perform water analysis testing to be sure their systems are working properly. These companies are not regulated and therefore, have no accountability. Consumers like myself, take for granted that corporations like Culligan are making our drinking water safer to consume.

Our city drinking water districts have strict safety regulations to follow to be sure it is safe to ingest, as does bottled water. It is unbelievable that a company can come in and chemically alter our regulated city water and not have any safety standards to follow.

most water meters have a back flow valve on them do you know who plumbers call when it comes to working on equipment ?they call culligan just like you did when you had a water problem plumbers are great for some jobs just most dont know water conditioning like someone that does that only... a plumber can plumb it in for you but ask him how many gallons of water you can get out of a full cubic ft of resin before you reach max capacity and he will probably say uhh i dunno

Culligan billing for service they do not provide

I used to have water softener exchange service with Culligan. The local dealer decided to stop providing that service as of November 30, 2006. However the Carol Stream, IL, Culligan office continues to bill me for that service. They have not responded to written complaints, one of which I sent certified mail so I have proof of delivery. They have just sent a notice threatening to place my account with a collections agency.

Culligan Bad business practice

Culligan charged me for service on a house I no longer own for service I discontinued two months ago. Culligan stated that I signed a 6-month contract, however there are two checked boxes. One states that service is provided month to month and one month notice is required for change of service. The other box does state the term as 6 months, so I suppose I legally have no recourse.

When I called to cancel service I was not informed that I would be billed through July - otherwise I would have asked that it be discontinued when my contract ran out. This way they get to collect twice for the same service!

I also had no choice. When I signed up for Culligan I said I was selling the house I needed the service so the water would not be black and sulfur smelling. No one told me a 6-month contract was required. And why should it be? Whats the skin off their nose? They charged me $75 for installation now theyll no doubt be charging the new owners the same.

I think their business practices stink.

Culligan Canada (Hamilton) took advantage of me. While I was ill I decided it was best that I start renting a water cooler again since the water in the building I was living in wasn't up to par. The sales rep came and convinced me a reverse osmosis unit was my best bet. No heavy bottles and that I could rent it for $26 a month! He had me sign on the papers for a rental unit. Stating that it was a perfect choice for me since on rental units filters are replaced every year free of charge plus if I ever move they move it for free leaving the old one as an option for the landlord and placing a new one at the new residence. I was thrilled. He pulled out a second form stating I had to sign it so that the head office would authorize the rental. I signed without reading it. Two years later when I went to move they told me I wasn't renting, I was rent-to-own and would be paying $26 a month for 7 years. They also added that the cost to move the unit would be over $300. I've moved twice now so I've paid close to $700 for moving costs...which btw it takes a total of 10 minutes to hook up the unit for a bill over $300. Culligan cannot produce a contract.. since I did not sign one... just that one paper... the rent-to-own agreement with the finance company. The one I apparently was signing to allow the local store to obtain the rental unit. In the end I'll be paying nearly $3000 once it's all paid for. That's if it doesn't break down again. Cost to fix a $10 relay = $170. Cost to replace filters = $179.00 and that doesn't include the membrane filter so yeah.. rip off. So thanks Peter (I'll spare you the shame of adding your last name) from the Hamilton, ON store on Rymal. YOU SUCK and Culligan will never have my business again. Keep paying by commission... it really keeps those employees honest. Karma times three - so mote it be.

Be warned that Culligan Canada (Kitchener area) is hampering me from buying a home by having me in collections for a $175 bill which I do not owe for stopping payment on a broken unit! They are thieves, liars and do not care what havoc they wreak on your life! Do not EVER deal with these people as their record keeping and inability to take responsibility for their own equipment is inexcusable! They have no compassion or sense of fairplay whatsoever! How can a company justify continuing to bill you after you have stopped payment to them and informed them to come pick up their equipment? Then put you in collections for not paying something you stopped payment on but they were too stupid to stop?

Your right... these "corporations" stink! the little guy always gets screwed... I bought a no-salt softener (a hydroflow system...) and when I called culligan to remove their system... I got such a "backlashing"! I cant repeat what they said to me. they charged me up the bum with all costs associated with cancellation/removal etc... I will never deal with culligan ever again... bye bye culligan man! oh and im telling my friends about how good a no-salt softener is instead of anything "culligan"...

The reason they make you sign a contract is because water conditioning equipment is expensive ask the same dealer what his cost to do your instalation was including gas, labor, parts, insurance, workers comp... plus on rental units the dealer performs any and all maitnence the equipment requires for the term of your contract and they do require maitnence the culligan dealer I work for will not rent a until without a one year minimum contract unless you work out a deal and pay the first 6 months up front. so really the dealer could have told you to buy your own equipment and maintain it with your back and wallet

Culligan billing for discontinued service

Culligan, PO Box 5277, Carol Stream, IL, is billing me for service that they do not provide. I used to have a water softener exchange service with them. The local Culligan dealer decided to stop providing that service as of November 30, 2006. However the Carol Stream, IL Culligan office has continued to bill me, and they have just sent a notice threatening to send my account to a collections agency. My written complaints to them have gone unanswered (one of which I sent certified mail so I have proof of delivery). I have also just filed a complaint with the BBB, but since their system says neither of the other complaints they have had against that office have been responded to I don't expect a response in my case either.

Culligan they have mistreated me

Moved in new house in 1987. Lots of rust in water. Called Culligan. They tested water and recommended their exchange tank rental unit. Despite acidity recommended no treatment of acidity.

Over years had far too many hot water heaters and new elements. Always lots of rust in heater (and some spots on clothes). They tested again...said all was fine; said I had right equipment.

Pipes started leaking. Plumber felt it might be from acid in water. Culligan came out--now they say I really need neutralizer, not their softener. They give estimate.

Call Aqua Science. They agree I need neutralizer, but indicate its output will be hard so a softener is needed. Give estimate for both less than Culligan's neutralizer!

Aqua Science installs; I cancel Culligan. They keep sending bill for one further year of service. I call them; they tell me they adjusted it for only two months--guy tells me I am reading billing date wrong. So now they want two months of money for a service that was not provided at all this year.

Retrospect: they never dealt with my problem

Recommend: go to any other vender...get better service at a cheaper price.

I purchased Platinum service from Culligan and would have expected priority service. I just called because one of my systems is not working and the soonest they can come out to fix it is 3 weeks. This is the second time this has happened.

Evidently Platinum service gives you no advantage over regular service. What a rip off.
