I opened a Commerce Bank checking account to qualify for their advertised cash bonus. I completed every requirement exactly as stated in the promotion, including meeting the direct deposit minimum and keeping the account in good standing. On November 17, 2025 Commerce Bank deposited a five hundred dollar incentive into my account. I already had one hundred dollars in the account, so I withdrew six hundred dollars because the bonus was fully posted and available.
A few days later Commerce Bank reversed two hundred dollars of the posted bonus without any explanation, notice, or reference to any promotional clause. This reversal immediately placed my account at negative two hundred dollars. Nothing in the published terms indicated that Commerce could revoke a portion of the bonus after posting it as completed.
When I contacted Commerce through their online chat, the representative refused to explain the reversal and abruptly ended the chat by telling me to call an 800 number. I still have not been given any reason or documentation for why the bank removed two hundred dollars after confirming the full bonus. This feels like a misleading promotional practice and improper handling of customer funds.
Claimed loss: $200
Desired outcome: refund
