Coinbase Wallet Long Time User Turned Enemy

There was a time where I would of argued that Coinbase and their various app/platforms were one of the greatest things to happen to Crypto. This past year or so I have dealt with some a mix of issues on the various Coinbase platforms ranking from minor annoyances all the way to absolutely inexcusable. I don’t want to have to write another novel in order to cover all of these issues so I’ll only explain the most recent one in as short of a way as possible.

Purchased some ETC via Coinbase Wallet through my connected Coinbase account that I was then planning on moving elsewhere immediately. App told me that the transaction could take up to 3 minutes to complete. Yeah so it took almost FOUR WEEKS to complete and become available in my wallet. I have then spent the last TWO MONTHS attempting to move that ETC from my Coinbase Wallet to another wallet of mine. Every time I try it just stays saying “calculating fees”. It doesn’t matter which device I try or where I’m sending it to.

Here’s the best part though. Since the issue with acquiring the ETC up until now I have nonstop attempted to get their support. Sometimes when I reach out and I get a response from their support team and they ask for more info and I take the time yet again to break it all down in detail and then back to nothing from them. Other times I receive nothing at all from them to begin with. A couple times I broke everything down perfectly and provided every single bit of info they could possibly need and even included screenshots with labeling and annotations and everything and their support team would either provide links to irrelevant “support articles” or show such a lack of understanding for crypto and even their own platforms that I’m actually concerned. The concern is because what that showed me was that either Coinbase and/or members of their team are toying with me or that they legitimately lacked that much training/education and support within their own ranks or are into stealing from their users. I have found so many people with almost identical issues and they seem to be recent as well and no one has been able to get help or get it resolved or access the crypto they purchased and legally own. And the amount of people reporting the issue is growing.

I’ve attempted to get help from them using EVERY option I could find. When I say every i mean every. Including constant pings to their social media and even numerous subreddits on Reddit with them tagged (yes their official subreddits as well) to try and get someone’s attention.

With just this issue, the ETC that’s sat there and was never intended to sit there or even remain ETC has lost around 50% of ifs value (that was as of the other day. I haven’t checked it the last couple of days). Each of the other prior issues all resulted in massive losses as well. Fortunes lost. Yes I am aware of investing risk. I’m no novice to this industry or the digital landscape. I founded and run an award winning digital creative agency. I am not some random guy who is fuming because I lost all my money in a meme coin Or because I got scammed by someone who told me they could turn $200 into $10k within 18 hours.

Coinbase Wallet Not a safe wallet!

Was using Coinbase wallet because I also had a Coinbase account, everything was going fine until it randomly logged me out and requested recovery from security phrase on October 5th, upon entering my security phrase now seems as wallet created a whole new wallet and all my assets were not showing! Contacted Coinbase but got a bunch of copy and pasted emails and no help at all. Funny how a company that big doesn’t even have a phone number! I have 9 assets in wallet valued at over 200,000 where now I have an attorney fighting for my assets.

This wallet allows you to create it without protecting yourself, kinda like buying a car with the option of adding breaks at a later date, after much research after loosing access to my wallet do too a glitch in the system, so since March I was using Coinbase wallet as mentioned above, I wanted to invest in some meme tokens. So I downloaded the app, went through the set up, at one point it gives you the option of backing up, writing down security phrase or skip it (they forget to tell you there wallet is unreliable and might log you out for no reason) well I set up my pin, two step authentication (not 100% sure was in wallet or app) so I thought I was safe. Backed up wallet on my cell and went on with my life, well on October 5th it all changed after being logged out (this is a wallet that Coinbase says we have control, but I guess it’s ok to get logged out with requesting to be logged out) and not being able to use pin to log back in. I went through the recovery process, using the back up data, requested I input PIN number again to protect wallet, and took me to a create username screen where I tried inputting my username and was already taken, so I inputted a new one thinking was part of recovery process. Once in wallet only thing showing was a transaction from March but rest of my assets where not there, at that point I contacted Coinbase support (can only contact via email) and kept getting same copy and paste replies with instructions on how to recover wallet, well my issue is looks like the security phrase split my wallet. Filed a complaint with coinbase and yet again no help and just copy and past replies based on the time of replies seems as there support team is based in the Middle East somewhere as all messages came in at early hours of day while we are still sleeping. So they are no help at all and seem not to care that their app logged thousands of people out and hundreds are going through same exact thing as me.

Now why can’t this wallet be more like meta mask when setting up? Why are we allowed to skip seeing or backing up wallet? Why when backing up and recovering from back up wallet glitch’s and creates a new wallet? After all this happen I moved all my remaining assets out of Coinbase App (not wallet as I still don’t have access) and created a metamask wallet to store my crypto so I’m not risking on losing more with coinbase, when creating their wallet it requires you to write down security phrase cause you will need to enter it in next step in order to activate your wallet. Yet when creating a Coinbase wallet gives you the option to skip and do it later but yet allows you to deposit and transfer assets in to it. Be careful people seems fishy to me how all this works, as it’s so important but yet you can opt to do it later, same thing as buying a car with the option of adding breaks at a later date but yet be allowed to drive it home.

I’d give it 0 stars if I could, do your research when opting for a wallet, I thought I was safe as I backed it up, created pin, and connected it to Coinbase but yet can’t seem to get help and my assets are just sitting there! Just not acceptable on developers behalf of creating something where thousands of new investors learn the hard way based on issues with the app. Developers should think about updating it to protect consumer instead of hurting consumers!
