Citroen — time taken to repair car under warranty & recall for faults not of our causing
Our Citreon Cactus had a "repair engine - service" message come up when we traveled 200 miles to Bath on 25/7/18. We rang Hartwell Citreon Garage on the Newbridge road in Bath to see if they thought we could drive back home before repair & they said no. We took it into them the following day. They said it was Adblue related, it wouldn't take long & as the car was under warranty still, wouldn't cost anything. They also said there were 2 recalls they would check - also free. We hired a car as there were no courtesy cars available & it seemed that we would have our car back to travel home on Saturday. This wasn't the case as the valve on the Adblue tank could not be bought alone so a new tank had to be ordered. We had to extend the car hire to go home as we were picking up a grandchild who would not otherwise be looked after. My husband had to return the car to Bath by 9.00am on 31st July so left home on Monday evening & stayed in an air bnb. The car was not ready. He returned by train while I hired another car in Colchester so that we could attend all the things booked for the week. It turned out that there was also a slow fuel leak which was sorted and recalls for the steering & fuel cap. I phone your national customer service in Coventry who rang the garage to see what was happening. They told us to save all our receipts to claim the money back that Citreon failures had caused us - £750 for 10 days car hire, two train trips & air bnb. My husband eventually picked up our car, after yet another train journey on 4th Aug. It had been ready 2 days earlier but we could not fit in an earlier trip with our holiday booked events for our granddaughter. We feel that Citreon is responsible for the actual faults happening in the first place, for lack of national provision of courtesy cars and the length of time ordered parts take. Do you agree that £750 for what is covered by warranty and shouldn't have happened in the first place is fair on customers who have only ever had citreons which have always been regularly serviced at our local dealer? It is not a very good advert is it & doesn't fill us with much confidence about long distance journeys in the future.
