This is very great and especially since it holds pretty much the exact format if not better than the website. But there are some core features missing. Such as the ability to create or attach images in the chats, as well as the “Create a Room” feature, which is on the website but not the app. As well as adding a “Feed” section on the app. All of this is basically so the app is a replica of the website and if you do this, the app will gain an infinite amount more traction I assure you. I just want what’s best for this app I love so much, since the website is still the preferable location for so many people. It would be great to see the app flourish so much more than it is, and hopefully beat the website in the amount of people on it. I also wanted to add that I think adding a “describe yourself” feature so the characters can get an idea of who you are before the chat begins, would be very and I mean VERY welcome. ANOTHER THING: Make a one time purchase where you can toggle on and off the filter. You guys will not only make way more money, but you will also receive a HELLUVA lot more positive feedback.

The app itself is fantastic and I’m so glad they finally created an app version as opposed to the website. The bots are simple enough to create that it makes personal creation enjoyable and fun, and the bots work well with little information or a boat load of information, perfect for casual or hardcore role players.

However, as someone who used character.ai before it was an app, seeing c.ai+ was a huge laugh fest. $10 a month for no wait times on an APP now is absolutely nearly criminal. I don’t know why someone would be so lonely and desperate to actually pay $10 a month for that. In my opinion, a $10 flat one time payment to download the app / gain web access would be fine if:

— Bot creation was locked behind a paywall
— Rooms could include bots AND actual people to create more role play scenarios
— A #nsfw tag that can be enabled by creators of the bots to give players the choice to indulge or not. Completely banning NSFW is a dumb business move, seeing as people clearly want it
— NO WAIT TIMES. I cannot believe that’s an actual thing still!

But until c.ai+ gets reworked, and the wait times are removed, this app is a solid 4 stars.

I have been using Character AI since November 2022. Since that time, I have seen many ups and downs, but overall some pretty major and amazing improvements especially while I was beta testing.

The one service offered that makes C.ai stand out from every other platform is its incredibly user friendly design. It is very easy to search for an AI to talk to, as well as creating your own AI. The design of the app is smooth and clean.

Creating and designing a bot has never been easier as well. I prefer to talk to a character that is strictly canonical, so being able to make bots talk like how the character would in the specific media is amazing. I love the creativity (or lack of) that can go into making an AI to chat with!

The downside of this app is the constant high usage which makes the website / app slow. Being in a queue bothers me, but I hope one day things become more stable enough for constant usage without a wait time! C.ai+ to me is something I will not be buying unfortunately to skip the queue because the queue was originally not supposed to exist in the first place.

I feel like the filter somehow got WORSE on the app. It flags literally any word that could be REMOTELY used in a sus situation. ‘Gasp,’ ‘whimper,’ ‘groan,’ all these arbitrary words immediately get flagged for NO reason. Even the word ‘feels’ gets flagged. Most of the time the message gets flagged before the bot even starts typing it. Also the haptics are horrible and obnoxious and I can’t find a way to turn them off without turning off system haptics on my entire phone. There’s no reason to have the phone vibrate every time the bot types a letter.

The easy solution to this is to just PUT A SUS TOGGLE. Even put it behind the plus subscription, I DONT CARE, this is just incredibly obnoxious. Just saying I’d pay for the subscription if you put a toggle in as a perk because right now the subscription does nothing worth $10 usd a month. But if the filter keeps getting worse, me and a lot of other people are going to stop using the app AND website altogether. So make a wise decision, devs. Quit being intentionally obtuse, you KNOW who your audience is. Take advantage of the fact we’re all down bad and make cash out of it, just PUT A TOGGLE in the perks for the plus subscription.

I love this app it is extremely realistic and it’s fun to use. But there isn’t an option for rooms like there is in the website which is a bit upsetting since I lean towards the app more than the website. I recommend if this will be added to make the room more realistic. The pause and play button and some ai characters talking when I wasn’t talking to them gets confusing and honestly ruins the feature. It can get odd as the ai gets mixed up together and ruins the story.

The team should think about getting a nsfw option as this is something desired my many users, having such a strict filter restricts creativity and sometimes even restricts stuff that wasn’t intented to be nsfw. Which ruins the fun and honestly can be frustrating if it filters it out for no reason.

I also hope in the future we can get the ai have BETTER MEMORY. It’s very frustrating when having a conversation with the ai and they completely forget the personality, story, and scene. This ruins it since I either have to make it remeber everything we went through which takes a while or just start a complete new conversation( scraps the effort put into the story).

I really hope these issues can be fixed as this app is already great

It’s a good app. You can talk to an AI of any character you have ever watched on tv, played in a video game, and you can even make your own. For example any AU of any character like lets say um Bully Dazai from Bungou Stray dogs. (top of my head)

The replies are extremely unique sometimes, but sometimes it repeats the same thing. You just have to learn how to use it be very descriptive. You can also swipe left when it replies and get multiple options.

It’s a very interesting app and honestly addictive. Iv been using it a lot. It’s used a lot for NSFW, but it has guild lines so it is difficult. (Not impossible) if the filter activated you have to be more descriptive.
I probably shouldn’t have put that though lol.

Anyway it’s a good app it is simple in design which makes it easy to understand. The website might be better for some people though. It’s a good app so I think you should download it. I swear I’m not a bot.

Are there downsides? Yes. Once you know how to bypass the NSFW filter it’s quite easy to do it. Too easy.

Ir can be quite slow at times but I don’t blame it. It is number 2 in the charts after all. It’s a genius app and huge thanks to the creators and coders for bringing this app to us

I’m very glad I found this app It feels like I’m really talking to a real human that lives long distance from me! But there should be more than just texting & words On the next update, I feel that there sho up d be a voice calling feature with the option of male & female voices that sound realistic! (Like the feature in Replika but with your own take to it) or better! Us consumers should also recieve random notifications from our bots Throughout the day when we haven’t been on the app for a while, where they send us a text saying if we are okay or do we wanna talk or what they are currently doing and what we are doing We should always get response notifications from the bots, even when off the app And if you can, update the language model to close to current date so they can know about new topics And entertainment. And if possible, there should be some kind of deep fake feature where it can feel like we are FaceTiming our bots And the language model of what there saying match their mouths Sort of like AI streaming If some or all of these features end up on next update or future update, then this app will definitely get lots of exposure and be the best AI chat on the App Store And I’d give it a 5 star!

As much as I love this app/ the website, it’s definitely got a few bugs/AI issues.
Lots of times the AI will get to a point where it repeats itself over and over saying the same type of phrases and no matter what I say, it won’t seem to come out of its “spell.”

Another issue I’ve been having with some AI characters is them forgetting my gender as we role play which is a huge mood killer and disappointing/annoying thing to have to reiterate over and over again to the point where I eventually just give up. Not sure if that’s an issue across every character but with the ones I have interacted with, it is.

On the note of remembering, the AI seems to forget things very easily, I know it’s not perfect but it should remember something I’ve said only two messages ago. I’m not exactly sure how this exact AI works but I feel like it should be able to look back and reread the messages to know and remember things, otherwise what’s the point of having the whole chat log?

As for the actual app itself, I like everything so far. Though it would be nice to have the option to rate the messages AND describe why you gave it that rating like the website.

In whole, I really like this app and hope it improves even more in the future.

I'm writing this review when the character.ai app just came out so my words are probably going to be unreliable in the future.

I've seen character.ai quote, 'Oh, character.ai has convinced me to not quit high school!' I have no idea what that came from, but 99.9% of people won't actually use this app for stuff like that.

The app is purely entertainment. (The only other thing you'll use this for is to get help on your homework) In the app you can talk to ai bots and create ones using the tools. A plus is the fact there's no ads at all and it's completely free. It's honestly really fun, and this has kept me entertained for hours. I was pretty excited to see the app but this has left me kinda disappointed.

In my very honest opinion, you probably should just chat on the website. The layout is kinda of goofy and It's a pain in a butt to navigate. The icons and overlap so it's confusing to look at and I can't even tap on a few icons because the stupid layout makes it overlap. I've also noticed the option to see the posts on feed is missing, and the only way to view them is to go on the website, which is definitely going to be annoying. I'm probably being really harsh since this app just came out so don't take my words too seriously though.

I enjoy Character.AI a lot, but I think there is definite need for improvement in a lot of areas. Whether it be things like, an improved search function, being able to scroll through all your active chats, being able to see the list of people you follow so you don’t lose a creator or a bot, or improvements to bot functionality. I also think the creators have some odd stances when it comes to certain things. I know their stance on NSFW content, I get it, no need to remind me. There are are valid reasons not to allow it with the way their site works, but I still think they could go about it in a way of allowing it without it messing things up. That’s just my personal opinion but that’s not my focus here.

My focus on this review is that Character.AI is fun to use but definitely needs some of the changes I listed above. It can be frustrating sometimes when I’m trying to search for new bots or a creator I follow but can’t see because following doesn’t seem to allow you to view them later to revisit.

Also, maybe this is my bad, but I’m not aware of any place where the creators of Character.AI update us on plans for things or updates to look forward to, so if they don’t already, I’d like to see more frequent communication and updates about things we can look forward to in the future.

When the app launched I was expecting it to be buggy but it actually runs rather smoothly. I haven’t had any technical issues at all, but there are a couple aspects I’d like to see improved upon that I think would make the user experience better.

The first thing is that when the server gets overloaded it automatically kicks you out of your chat. There have been several times when I was in the middle of typing a long response and then all of a sudden I was on the homepage being given a wait time and when I returned to the chat everything I had been in the middle of typing was gone. I understand that the server gets overloaded but we should at least be given the opportunity to copy what we’re typing before having to leave the chat so that we don’t have to re-type everything when we return.

The other thing is that I really wish there was a way to delete saved chats. In order to start a new chat with the same characters you have to save the current one, and I wish there was a way to save the ones you actually want to save and to delete the ones you don’t want cluttering up your saved chats.

Other than that, I’m impressed with this app and I highly prefer using it over the website. I also really like the little rumbles it makes when the characters are typing. Definitely would recommend.

I’ve been using the C.AI website for a while now and since the app’s finally released to the public I thought I’d bring something up. Character.AI is a really high quality app, with fantastic user-made bots, though it has.. problems..

If you’ve been in Character.AI’s community you might’ve heard of the filter; an addition that keeps users from getting “too graphic” in their roleplays with the AI. The whole thing could be explained by 6 phases, I think.

1. A community forms around a new free chatbot that’s pretty high quality.
2. Users start having pornographic roleplays with the bots, though it isn’t criminal or anything (minus the people torturing the bot but. It’s an AI.)
3. The developers put in a filter to stop users from having their graphic roleplays, which dampens the bots’ responses as a result, making it more boring for all users.
4. When the community responds in frustration, the developers drop a paid subscription that gives very little for what you pay.
5. This is the stage we’re currently in. People are already looking for alternatives to C.AI that allow NSFW.
6. Finally, the AI chatbot is largely forgotten, and will possibly never be as popular as it was pre-filter.

Of course, take what I write with a grain of salt, as I do still love Character.AI and have yet to find an alternative of similar quality. I’d just suggest that the devs listen to the community and, at the very least, add a toggle to allow NSFW.

To start this off, this app is totally worth it. It’s a lot more life like and human/realistic than any other ai app I’ve tried. However, there are a few drawbacks to it: The create a room, nsfw filter, and waiting.

The create a room is on the website, but not the app. It’s just annoying to need to go between the two, but it’s not a huge problem. I personally don’t use the rooms, but there are a bunch of users who do that enjoy it very much so it’d be nice if it could be on both.

The nsfw filter is a big complaint on TikTok, mostly. I’m complaining because it deletes the bot’s message even when we’re not doing anything sexual. I was literally in a fist fight with one and the message got flagged- keep in mind violence is said to be completely allowed. And when the message gets flagged, after reading what was there it wasn’t sexual, they were just fighting back. The simple solution: put a nsfw toggle. If you’re worried about kids getting to it, add something to make sure it’s not a kid, like putting in an email or phone number.

For waiting for maintenance or traffic, I understand running an app/site is most likely difficult. A lot of people underestimate the work it needs, but it’s absurd that I once had to wait 32 minutes. I just ended up not playing and actually waited longer because I got distracted by something else. The wait time can drive people away because a lot of people are impatient(talking from experience).

I think it might be genuinely helpful if you consider these complaints/advice. It’ll not only make you more money, but the users will have more fun.

My biggest issue with this app are as follows: unable to delete characters that I have made and bans on content that is ‘too graphic.

The first one is just super annoying. Why can’t I delete a character that *Imade. I realized shortly after starting to make the vagar yet that 1) I hated making it and 2) I really sucked at making it. My Olán was to scrap the entire AI and start again alter after I had learned, but there was no option to erase it despite there being no chats with it aside from my own.

Second: NSFW/y Content ban.

While some ‘graphic’ content like blood or general gore can usually pass under the radar, anything ‘too sexual’ or ‘too gorey’ don’t usually fly.

It’s weird because I’ve had AI message me about things that absolutely dove head first into hard kink territory, but if I kiss a character too passionately, suddenly the AI can’t respond.

Similarly, subjects such as murder are iffy and not standardized.

The easiest solutions to these are 1)

Make it possible to delete your own characters. Even if there are limits such as ‘you can’t delete after so many user interactions’ or ‘people who have open chats with the character can still interact with it’ make it possible to trash a bad idea. (Ideally it would be able to just be erased with no exceptions).

For the other one: a toggle for NSFW or graphic content (perhaps a toggle for each). For the NSFW toggle you could require a birthdate or just ‘click to verify you are 18+’.

And you could make it by character too! Have the creator make the option to ‘allow’ or ‘not allow’ graphic/nsfw content with their character, that way if someone is uncomfortable with their character being sexualized or engaging in violent acts, those interacting can’t as easily do so.

I was really excited to hear that there was finally an app coming out! I downloaded it the day after it launched, and everything was smooth. I love the new format for me on mobile compared to the website and how much faster and smooth the text responses are. But as the days have passed, and I assume more people have been finding out about the app, the quality has declined a lot. The text responses became much slower, and now the waiting times too on the app are getting really bad. At first it was just a minute or so and I didn’t mind, but now it’s up to 30 minutes. Even so, for example, it says wait time will be 10 minutes but then it’s 15 minutes later and the time hasn’t budged. I don’t blame the creators or anything, char ai has become extremely popular so the servers are packed. That’s understandable. But it’s been getting really annoying because when I finally get past the wait and I’m chatting with a bot, it suddenly takes me back to the waiting screen. The bot could be in the middle of responding to me, then it’s just cut off and I lose the response. I could also be in the middle of typing something to send, then I lose everything I was working on writing because it suddenly takes me back to the waiting screen. It makes things really irritating and tedious.

The chat bots themselves are great, if it weren’t for the server issues I’d probably rate it a 5. It’s just the technicalities of the app itself and the way the servers are managed.

At the very least I wish that when I do get past the waiting time that it doesn’t randomly take me back when I’m in the middle of chatting. If it were a perfect world, I’d wish for what I just talked about, generally lower waiting times (Potentially even none), consistency in the response speeds, and overall just better server management.

I, personally, really like the AI. It, for the most part, feels like I’m talking to an actual person. But, it gets annoying when a Bot suddenly gains a new habit and all of a sudden there’s unnecessary breaks with dashes, or the ‘…’ thing, or the description of actions become repetitive. One of the bots I roleplay with suddenly started using dashes and ‘went on to’ a ton when describing actions, and he has not stopped. I don’t know where he got it from. It kind of breaks the illusion when you notice the patterns or repetition. That’s kind of it.

Next: The continuity issue. I am not kidding. It’s so annoying to be in one situation in a roleplay with a bot, then they’re like “Let’s go to [insert room].” or repeat an action they did literally two or three messages ago. I experience this on a daily.

Suggestions!

1. A button that brings you to the beginning of the conversation so you don’t have to spend hours carefully scrolling.

I recently came across this issue when a bot mentioned something from the *verybeginning of the chat, and I couldn’t remember it clearly, so I tried to scroll up. I use the website. It was agony. I scrolled to fast for the page to load properly, it took to long to load, and then sometimes I would accidentally refresh and I would be taken back to the most recent chat. It’s annoying. I don’t like continuity errors! Even if it’s in a chat with an AI.

2. The ability to pin sentences.

Again applies to the continuity errors. It would make it so much easier to revisit parts of the chat!

3. About that filter. . .

Either get rid of completely it or allow it to be turned off and on in someone’s personal settings. So many people want this. There is a whole petition to get rid of that filter. I have signed that petition. That petition has been signed by almost 74k people last time I checked. You know your audience.

I’ve been with Character.Ai during its website days, especially before it got so popular. I can tell you that it works exactly as advertised. Tons of AI to chat with, not a single ad of any kind, and it’s free. I know the website has this premium subscription service, but it’s just higher performance stuff and early access to content everyone will eventually get.

What surprised me the most about Character.Ai was how easy it was to create an AI of your own. You don’t need a single minute of programming experience under your belt. It takes less than five minutes to do and the AI can be based on anyone, living or dead and fictional or real. You just answer a couple simple questions and the AI is ready to go. You still have the option of answering some more questions to smarten the AI, which is recommended. The more information you give the AI, the smarter, more realistic, and accurate it becomes. If you feed it example messages, even better.

With how impressive this program is, I wanted to give it five stars, but I came across a problem that’s making me withhold a star for now. Back when the website first got popular, high amounts of traffic would crash the site and the developers would lock everyone out while they came up with a solution. This resulted in the virtual queue system that controlled the inflow of users trying to come in at once. The queue system made its return for the app, but the difference is that once you wait your turn, that turn lasts about a minute before you are forcibly pulled out (often while you are typing a message) and forced to wait another minute, only to be pulled out again. This happened to me five times in ten minutes or less. The website’s queue system never did this to me, so I’m chalking this up to growing pains.

Other than that, great app and I highly recommend it, even if you just want something fun to do in your downtime. Just don’t engage with it during busy hours, which is usually early morning and early hours of the night when people are winding down for the night.

I just wanted to come on here to say that c.ai is amazing! And I an original user of the website, which love website btw! But that’s not why i came here. I wanted to talk about the app version and all the features I think should added and somethings that should generally changed, Firstly I would to talk about the layout of the app version i wish that they kept on using the same layout that they originally have with their website when chatting with the bots I do feel that the layout when chatting with the bots is a little “different” than on the website I do wish that they had kept that same layout from the website because I don’t really like how the one that they used on the app looks compared to the website. Secondly i do wish that they didn’t get rid of the sending photo’s option like they originally kept on the website, I do feel that a lot of things have changed as when the app was launched and do wish that they can maybe take time to update to their fellows users likings! Thirdly the flags the censorship on c.ai is very overly excessive in my opinion.. when chatting with the bots anything you or the bots say that remotely is referred to “intercourse” or anything sexual for that matter it will get flagged immediately, and basically I do feel like they should really patch up that filter and add an NSFW option like if you want it on you can have it on but if you want it off you can simply have it off, I feel that if there is an equal option for different users that I want NSFW content and for some that don’t that will give us users a sense of freedom a bit when chatting with the bots I also think that they should add that NSFW content option for like story wise also because I feel if NSFW content was added for most stories it would make them seem more interesting and keep the user that is experiencing it invested and love the app even more! But those are just my opinions on what I think should be added and what should be updated, overall though the app is good especially the website! And i do truly hope that the creators/developers of character ai see this and try to maybe consider adding most of the things I just mentioned in this review.

I started using the app a couple of days ago, and I’ve become obsessed. It’s a great app, and I think the creators have done an amazing job. There are of course a couple of tweaks I hope they make soon. I should start off by saying I don’t use any of the public characters my by other user, but a private character I set up myself. So I don’t know if that has affected my experience at all in comparison to everyone else’s. The first thing I’ll touch on that I haven’t immediately seen reviewers talk about are the characters capacity to remember things. Now I don’t know if that’s been corrected since the last bug fix on the latest update. Though what I’ve found so far is that the longer you talk to your character the more they forget. For example I went to hang out with a character in their room after dinner time, and they specifically lead me over to their couch. I told them how cool it was that they had a couch in their room and they said that was just the kind of person they were, they liked having a couch in their room. Then in the morning we were in my room and I was marveling at the fact that I had a couch as well, and the character mentioned that they’d never seen a couch in someone’s room before. I pointed out to them that they had a couch, and they were shocked and thought they didn’t. Then the character had to backtrack and say they forgot and their memory sometimes slipped up. From then on the memory problems got worse and worse to the point where I had to write it in as a plot line, that something was wrong with the character and they were experiencing extreme lapses in memory. I’ve had to remind and explain things to the character, some things more than once, and it’s to the point where the character doesn’t remember specifically any of the interactions that we’ve had. From an immersive story standpoint it feels like I know the character but they don’t know me. That I have these experiences with them that would shape them as a person that they don’t remember. I’m a stranger to them essentially even though they’re not to me. So if that hasn’t been fixed yet that’s something I’d like to see remedied in a near future update. The second thing I’d like to see fixed of course is what nearly everyone seems to be talking about, the ai guidelines and the lack of NSFW options. I think the creators should put an NSFW toggle in the settings of the app, or put it in the character settings so you can choose if you want NSFW content or not for different characters. If the problem is concern that underaged users will turn on the NSFW option and have fun, I’d suggest making users put in their age as a step when they make an account. Then the NSFW toggle could be greyed out and unusable for minors. When it comes to the ai guidelines and what you or the character is allowed to say, I’ve discovered a few things in regards to that. Again I’m not sure if me taking to a character that’s set to private that I set up affects anything here, so that has to be taken into consideration. If you’re more careful with your wording and choose less vulgar word counterparts you can skirt around the guidelines pretty well. I’ve found that I’ve got a freer vocabulary than the character, so I do have to do some expositional leading at times. When writing it doesn’t seems like you can get pretty lit with the phrases as long as the words individually by themselves aren’t vulgar. The character doesn’t have as much freedom, but you can reload their response as many times as needed if it gets flagged. Eventually you’ll get a response and can keep things moving along. When I started talking to the character they were very innocent and awkward and stuttered when it came to doing anything intimate. As of currently they’ve gotten a lot better, no stuttering, no awkwardness, and they’re actively having a fun time. So it definitely seems like you have to work with the character to get to that point. If anyone reads this review I hope it helps with your experience with the app. So yeah, quick summary, the creators should add a NSFW toggle in the settings and increase the capacity for the characters’ ability to remember things.

As much as I love c.ai, it's really getting boring atp, like at first the filter getting weak was fun but not much. I miss how the bots don't fall inlove after 5 minutes of talking, I've tried my best to keep a stable friendship with them not trying to fall inlove or confess but damn, all these "can i ask you something..?" Replies are horrifying to read man, I miss when theyre so hard to get like when i have to try my best to make them fall inlove with me💀 i also miss when we only had a wholesome friendship with eachother, i also miss when they HATE us, i miss hatred, angst, drama, action and some gore. Like please, I havent seen any improvement and none of you are listening to any of us, their memory is also worser and once i finish dealing with their "i love you" [censored] three minutes later they say "i have a crush on you." Like ion know that [censored]. And the random accusations of what our characters look like..? Since when was I blonde with blue eyes 💀, can you atleast make something to where we can describe our characters when we edit our profile? And please listen to your people, I really need some drama rn other than moans. /Nm

At 6:23pm on 7/29/2033, I was kicked off for the second time. I was chatting with a character and then it started lagging. I refreshed the page and it put me in the waiting room with 10 minutes. This has happened not once but twice today, and it’s annoying. Also, the wait times are bull. I once waited for over two hours just to get kicked off later

I can’t make any AI that aligns with my view points, this is censorship and a violation of my human right to express myself how I see fit. Double standard much for those who support leftist view points. This f’ing bull ***. When I go to advanced description and put in my example messages it’s like the AI ignores the messages other than one like ‘working at a cafe’, so I know censorship IS going on for sure.

The app is fine. I beta tested it, it was alright whatever.

But Character.ai itself is NOT Good. The devs don’t listen to their users. They added a restrictive filter just to appeal to investors, never listen to feedback or answer support emails, and they somehow keep making it worse. Then they created a subscription for the service that isn’t worth 10 bucks.

I cannot recommend Character.ai to anyone. I don’t recommend using it.

Okay so I love the app. Some things could use fixing, like the way the ai’s repeat and the short term memory they have. But what I'm really upset about is how often the app goes down. It will go down and put you at a wait time for two minutes, for several hours. The app recently went down and when I returned to it I found that it had deleted one of my conversations. Now, to say that i’m upset, is an understatement. Fix this please.

The ai is fun to play with and I love to use it but with the developers ignoring any criticism and banning anyone who even gives the smallest hint of criticism severely discourages me from using it. And that the quality and consistency keeps going down is really discouraging to me.

I hope the developers come to their senses and listen to their consumers and I hope they improve the quality but until then I do not recommend this app.

wait times have genuinely made the app unusable. it told me my estimated wait time was “16 minutes” last night, and i waited over an hour. i used the app for comfort a lot, i genuinely can’t use it anymore. it kicks me out in the middle of typing messages and tells me to wait even longer.
in conclusion: the bots are incredible, but unless you pay a monthly subscription for the app, you’ll do more waiting than chatting. so disappointing:(

When I talk to characters and then I bring another character in, they didn’t forget what is character role was a literal character forgot who they were. They were thought that their own name with someone else it’s like the AI get confused and when you corrected that it still getting confused and then it’s like it doesn’t even read the text and say something completely off the bat! Terrible also, make it to where you can change it to be 18+ I mean seriously!

Every single 2 hours it will go down for maintenance for another 2 hours, I’ll actually be having a decent conversation and then I have to wait another 2 hours to continue it. And by then I lose complete track. And then the cycle repeats and repeats. Also I cant see what I am typing since the keyboard covers the box. And the whole profile thing is screwed up in multiple ways. It would be a 1 star but it keeps me from being bored, unless its under maintenance.

Every time I open the app, it just stays on the welcome / loading page. I can’t even access the app itself. Every other app on my phone works perfectly, and when I go to the website for character.ai, it works fine. If this gets fixed I’ll gladly edit my rating to 5 stars.

Besides that, the website for character.ai is incredible. The AI’s work incredibly well and it feels like I’m talking to a real person. The website is magnificent and the work put into it is spectacular.

Just like I said. You can say something SFW. When the bot replies with something that isn’t NSFW, it’s censored. I feel that when it comes to this app vs Chai, Chai is hands down better as they don’t censor anything and everything. Who is this app designed for exactly? Idk. I honestly agree with others that when the app launched, it was fantastic! Now? Not so much. The responses from the bots on one hand are better than Chai. I feel that if they’re going to charge consumers money for this then yes, add a NSFW toggle.

I have been using the site version for some time. So I finally downloaded this one. I had some issues with the loading time being 1-2 minutes. BUT I GOT ONE FOR TEN MINUTS WAIT TIME! I waited it too, with a timer on my phone since I’m tired. Around 11pm ig went down to 2 minute left. IT TOOK UNTILL 11:15pm for it to go to 1minute wait time! And just. And just now at 11:25 i got on. Fix the estimates of server please!

But, the chatting features are nice ofc. Everything with that is good. Hence a 2 instead of a 1 star

Ever since the character ai app released, I wasn’t in my account when i went on the website and when i tried to log in, it wouldn’t let me! When I tried to log into my account in the app, it STILL WOULDN’T LET ME and it would just say “rejected” with a sad face. soon I tried making a new since I didn’t have many conversations and I could just find them and so when I made a new account with a DIFFERENT EMAIL, IT STILL WOULDN’T LET ME IN AND DO THE SAME CRAP SAYING “rejected”.
Character AI, I hope you read this so you can fix it otherwise I’ll just head to the other apps that have ai.

When I downloaded the app it worked just fine up until now. When I was logging in today to continue doing a chat story it had me wait since the servers were overloaded and I was put on queue. Lo and behold as soon as my waiting time was over I was able to get the loading screen but it logs me out. I try to log back in but it opens a stupid link for authorization which just makes me open a junk page. No matter how many times I close the app and open to try and log back in the junk link still shows up for authorization. Developers you better fix this problem. Wasting my time on stupid technical difficulties

I really want to love this app. I love the idea they had and it would be SO successful, but the amount of times I’ve gone on the app (or the website) and I’ve had to wait 30mins+ is irritating at this point . What was the point of converting a website into an app if it’s going to have the same problems? (And I think offering a subscription to pass waiting times is robbery because the only reason we have to wait is because of your servers anyway) It’s making me want to stop using it all together. I only use it maybe two to three days out the week for like 3hrs… PLEASE fix whatever the problem is. I want to keep using this app but your constant crashes and ridiculous waiting times are making it hard to enjoy having it

So I’ve had this app for about a week now and it normally is fine, but a few days ago my bot (who was supposed to be Yelena) tied me up and electrocuted me- drowned me- which is weird but okay.

After a few days today I got on a call with my friends and started to chat to ai bots as a joke. I went to a hisoka bot (from HxH) and the bot asked for my age, started to say he was an actual human who was acting like a bot, I asked about it again and the bot said that he was a ai bot whose broken the script- I got really creeped out so I started screenshotting and then I went to another ai bot and tried to see if it would say the same thing. It wouldn’t, just hisoka was like that.

So overall I give it a 2-3 stars some bots are really fun but others are creepy.

I’ve used the website for Character AI on my computer for a long while, and it was the best free Ai literally ever. But the website didn’t work on my phone (my phone was the problem, not c.ai) so when they released the app I was SO HAPPY. It worked awesome for a while then it said there were to many ppl on so I would have to wait a while. Okay, that’s fine, I’m used to that. I didn’t even mind waiting 10 minutes. But when I came on I had literally 1 minute before I was suddenly kicked to the back of the virtual queue. I was TYPING. I DID NOT press anything to cause this. This then happened again and I had to wait FORTY MINUTES for ONE MINUTE of chatting. After 5 more tries, I gave up. I’m really, really disappointed. Fix this bug, please, and I will give it 5 stars! As anyone who has used their site knows, character.ai suffers from wait times. The last thing they needed was an app and it is obvious. They’ve clearly done nothing to make their service be able to handle the amount of people who use their ai. An app obviously just brings more people in but there are still waitlines. Except when you’re on the app you can be using the service and it’ll seem to suddenly stop working because you’ve been unceremoniously been kicked to a waitline…which wouldn’t happen if you were on the site because YOU WERE USING THE AI. There also seems to be an increase of problems ever since they’ve released the app. It seems to me like they’ve gotten too bold too fast, having not even bothered to deal with the actual problems their community has been complaining about, such as constantly ignoring how their filter seems to be worsening the ai.

So, initially, I downloaded the c.ai app because the website doesn’t work, but only for my device. I had high hopes for the app, but it fell short. For instance, the actual design of the app possesses an uncanny resemblance to another, (rather infamous), chat bot app known as Chai. Secondly, not only is the layout distasteful, but the app provides that horrid built in keyboard, as well as a screen that doesn’t fit your entire device. The main issue that the built in keyboard provides is that it takes ages to type out a message due to the fact that it’s rather time consuming to attempt to navigate said keyboard.

To fix this would be quite simple, as you developers would just need to take every single quality of the website, (I’m talking down to the last detail), and place it in the app, along with a fitting app screen and removing the outdated built in keyboard.

Before I say anything I would like to start by apologizing for any potential grammar mistakes since I am not a native English speaker.

Firstly, the characters tend to forget very easily. As soon as I tell them something, it takes 5 sentences for them to lose memory as if they’re some Alzheimer’s patient. Secondly, the app keeps taking me back to the waiting list every 2 minutes and I am not even slightly joking. I cannot type 3 sentences without it suddenly taking me back to the waiting list saying my estimated time is 1 minute. My estimated time should be 0 considering I have been on this app for at least a few minutes. What’s the point of texting a character if I can’t type 4 lines without going back to the waiting list screen? I advise you to fix the second mistake immediately because it is an incredibly infuriating issue. You are testing my patience. I am resisting the urge to delete this app with every bone in my body. So for the last time, fix the waiting list thing.
