Model [protected] performance 4 burner gas grill
Assembled grill matching insruction sheet and is correctly assembled, gas hose is just too short. Tank is mountable on right side and supply/hose regulator is on left side with 2 ft hose length. In order to hook up to tank it needs to be at least 4 feet in length not 2 feet. Called store where purchased and they gave me $20.00 gift card to cover cost of having to get a longer gas hose/regulator assembly.
Desired outcome: None, got 20 dollar gift card from store, told them about problem and that I will be getting longer regulator hose assembly.
Terrible experience
Poor service dept. response. On HOLD twice for more than 5 min each time. Grill is unusable but service dept advises part is not under warranty. Also advised to search the web for the part... or... advised Char Broil might be able to substitute a part but would charge for the substituted part.
In addition to the flame problem, my commercial series unit is slowly rusting away. The unit is stored inside a building and I live in SW Florida. I had a 3x4 hole in the drip pan from rust, the hanger rails are rusted away, and I am on my third set of iron burners. The outside of the stainless steel unit is deteriorating eventhough it never sees rain. This is the first Char Broil I have ever owned and it has been an experience.
I wrote to CharBroil relative to a lack of even flame problem. First I received a note telling me I had not registered the unit and since they had neither a model number or serial number they could not help. I emailed back giving them the numbers requested noting that I obtained them from my CharBroil registration listed on their site. Same day I received an email closing my case - without ever having answered my problem. I called the 800 number to spoke to a young woman whose only interest was in selling me a regulator - valve kit for $130. I asked if I could buy a regulator only, as I have seen them for sale in harware stores for about $20., but she said no, complete assemblies were the only way they came. She opened my case again. Hopefully some one with technical experience will reply
Why my next grill won't be a Char-broil.
Purchased a Stainless Steel commercial series model [protected] for $499 + tax expecting it to last me many years due to the Stainless Steel only to find out much of it isn't actually Stainless Steel causing corrosion where the mixed metals meet, and now much of it is rusting away and it is no longer really serviceable after just a few years.
The problem is the grill is actually a mix of stainless steel and other metals, apparently Char-broil didn't know / care what happens when you bring disparate metals together - electrolysis.
Just a few highlights of the issues:
The cooking grate that was suppose to be Stainless Steel tuned out to be very thin tubing with a different metal inside corroding from the inside splitting open the Stainless Steel tubes like bananas (not they no longer offer a Stainless Steel cooking grate and instead offer porcelain).
The holder for the igniter complete rusted and fell away.
The carry over tubes rusted away and fell off (no longer available).
The magnets that hold the doors closed are rusting and leave rust stains on the Stainless Steel body.
Please keep in mind that the grill has always been stored inside a closed garage with a cover on it.
Save your money.
Here's a picture of the hose that burned. I can't imagine what would cause it to catch on fire. Possibly poor design.
My Char-Broil grill was a mistake from day one. After the first use I tried to pull the drip tray out, but the rubber/plastic stip the drawer slides on melted in the front right corner which was always so ridiculously hotter than the rest of the grill. It took hours on the ground contorted up inside the grill using a screw driver to pry the melted rubber/plastic piece loose so the tray would slide freely. Something should have told me to take it back right then. Over time nuts and bolts have appeared in the drip tray, don't quite know where they came from. Then there's the rotissereie. It didn't fit the grill, the holes in the bracket didn't line up with the holes in the grill. We called them about it, they sent us a part and it didn't fit either. My husband ended up drilling holes in the grill to make it fit. And then there was yesterday when the whole grill caught on fire because the hose that connects the regulator to the grill burned. The hose was whipping 3 to 4 foot flames. I had to get to the valve on the lp tank. I was so afraid the tank was going to explode killing me or catching me on fire. It had to be done the grill was on fire too. Eventually my husband and I got both fires under control. I will NEVER, EVER, EVER, own a Char-Broil grill again. They should change their name to Char-Burn.
Yes, they are a cheesy, Chinese set of cheaply made grills. LOL
My Char Broil Comercial BBQ started on fire at the front of the unit, thank god we were outside and saw it happen. Char Broil after recieving my complaint, asked me to submit pictures. One week later I went online to submit the photos and my claim said closed, nice since it carries a life time warrenty
Not a company I would buy a BBQ from nor would I recommend my family or friends to purchase a Char Broil. So much for standing behind your product
