ICandy / Canvas Corporation reviews and complaints
Non Payment of Wages
This Company does NOT pay employees. They post ads on Craiglist and all over the internet promising big money. So people get hireed via email/phone. Once the employee goes to work and HUSTLES and works very hard, they do not get paid. Complain to the venues since Canvas Corporation is an Independent Contractor hired by the venues. The venues do not pay Canvas Corporation but maybe if they get enough complaints from people they will stop hiring Cnvas Corporation. Complain to your labor board. Canvas Corporation is a losing venture. STAY AWAY. I heard someone is trying to form a class action lawsuit.

Beware!
I used to be an events manager for them in southern california. his strategy would be to hire people off craig's list, tell them they would get their first check in about three weeks, in that time they would work multiple events unpaid, and when it was time for them to get paid, it would take a few more weeks and lots of phone calls to get them paid. finally the vendors would stop working and he would hire more and do the same thing, occasionally his checks would bounce and it took threats of law suits to get them taken care of. they also never looked ahead of time to get the necessary inventory ready for the shows and the blame would fall on me from the venue manager. i finally left after a few months because i got really frustrated with having to tell the vendors to call mark and jonathan about them not getting their paychecks. about six months later i got a call from a long time vendor saying that all of them havent been paid in over three months, and jonathan kept telling them that the pay checks were coming. i am sorry ahead of time for anyone that does business with them because i see that it is a trend and pretty much a scam

Just be sure when you do go to the department of labor you make sure you have all possible addresses of the company and figure out which state the company is registered in. It's not New Jersey.
Do What i did I went to the Labor board if every one does this they will know that they are working a scam and put then in jail. No one does nothing and thats why the get away with it .

*A paycheck dated 4/10/2011 came in with no work dates on it in the amount of $631.49
**A paycheck dated 4/29/2011 came in with the work dates of 4/5, 6, 9, 11, 22 without the per-day payments itemized, for $64.57
The total of all my paychecks was $1979.54
Total commissions calculated as earned: $3082.158
The amount I was paid on those days that I don’t know what I earned: $453.87
· On Feb 28, the manager, Scott, failed to write down $100 that I had turned in during the game, and did not believe me when I told him I had.. He insisted that I cover the missing $100 with whatever money I had (tips and whatever I had in my pocket when I came in that day). After all the other vendors had turned in their sales and inventory was taken, it was discovered that I was right and he was wrong, but they only had $80 in cash to pay me back. Therefore I am owed $20 for that day.
· On March 24, I was called in the night before to work the NCAA fan fest in Championship Plaza. I sold nothing for 90 minutes in the cold at this poorly attended event at which there were other food vendors. I was told by the manager Bruce Herzog that what I did helped the company. I told him I wanted $20 for my time. He said to tell Mark and I would be “taken care of better than that.” I never got the chance to tell Mark, and I have been paid nothing. I will accept my original request of $20 for that day.
· After one game, late in the season (I can’t remember which game) the manager, Dave, failed to account for $108 in candy that I had sold when it was time for me to turn in the money. I waited and let him check over his figures several times, amnd encouraged him to do so, as I thought that it was an unusually large amount for me to have left over. He could not find anything wrong with his figures then so I left. About an hour later, when I was already halfway home, he called me to inform me of his mistake. I asked him to please take it out of my next paycheck. So that is $108 to me in addition to what I have been paid.
Total of commissions earned, both estimated and actual, plus monies owed for miscellaneous reasons, and including the amounts paid on days in which I do not have records: $3561.598 (the actual total should be higher due to estimations)
Total paid to me in commissions, plus the $108 mentioned above: $2180.92
Estimated total of unpaid commissions and other monies owed by Canvas Corp to me: $1380.678
The actual total should be higher due to estimations.
Anyone is welcome to check my math and let me know if I figured this out wrong. I have documentation to backup every figure.
I also worked for canvas and i agrree they are idiots i realty thought that this kind of thing go on on a third world country but no we find here in our owen back yard i starded working for them on october and still thave not goten paid on october commisions i don't know where some people find the time to say its a nice company wich is not i call the number on one of there checks today and the number has been disconnected do to none payment. I did report them to the labor commsion you incurage others to do the same thing
I worked for Canvas Corp at the Prudential Center from Nov 25, 2010 until May 25, 2011. I was never paid the commission for my first day's work, nor for many other days, either. The commissions would come in at various levels, almost always below the 13% I was told we were supposed to get. I asked Mark Sarnoff for the employer ID number so I could report the job the the Dept of Labor, from whom I was collecting unemployment, and he never got around to giving it to me. When I asked for a 1099 form so I could file my takes, he said they didn;t have to give one if the income was below a certain level, and that he was not going to give me one. I worked the NASCAR event in Las Vegas, which started out promising, but turned out to be very poorly organized. Mark Sarnoff all but accused me of lying when I told him about some of the things that went wrong in Las Vegas, and told people that I had stolen from customers when someone accused me of giving incorrect change (I would never deliberately short-change a customer, much less steal from anyone). I had been one of the best vendors there, putting up cotton candy numbers with sodas and popcorn, with never a complaint about the hard work. He said I would get the commissions I was owed in a matter of weeks after I stopped working there, and I have yet to see a penny since. When I applied for unemployment after I stopped working there, the Labor Dept. of NJ said they had no record of me working in NJ.I have filed a complaint with the Labor Dept for unpaid wages and am waiting for it to go through.
You speak for everyone who works for this company, really? If these incidents did occur...I'm sure you wouldn't have worked there as long as you did. Not everyone gets/got treated "badly" like you say/said. I never encountered any problems receiving a paycheck. Just quit next time. I'm content with working for the canvas corporation.
Wow, I do not agree! Why don't you all sit down and have a serious talk with your managers, and the higher ups? They have always been welcoming and able to adress any issues I have ever had (if any) and they are very nice people.
Haven't you all heard the phrase "Get a New Job."? Obviously this one is not for you. I have been with them for about a year, and I can't relate to this review or many of the comments on this string. I think it is a great company!
they are not people, pissednaz, it is a reputation management company combatting the negative publicity. The common denominator is these people are posting on various sites to combat negative all on the same day, in various cities from coast to coast. How the same person can work a game in New York and then in Los Angeles is quite amuzing. Get a bit more creative is what I say. The Reputation Management company, I hope you got paid. I am in the Rep Mgmt business and Social Media. This guy Mark is under investigation Federally, he is a criminal.
CollegeGraduate6, I'm with you. Maybe these people saying it's a great company didn't have a good amount due to them, like you and like me. Mark owes me $1, 009.27 and refuses to pay. He's a liar and a cheat and he tries to weasel out of paying peoples due. How dare he, and how stupid he is for doing it to me. I told him I was just warming up by going to the labor board. Since I sent my paperwork in; I've contacted the Government Fraud Task Force, then it'll be the FBI (committing fraud in multiple states), then it's the IRS. I've also started writing to the venues that I read he looking for workers. I tell them what he did to me and how unscrupulous of a person he is. And for you people who say it's all great, you need to see the big picture, there's far too many people with the same problem and the only common denominator is Mark Sarnoff
All you folks who have had such great experiences with Canvas Corp, please contact me. I would love to get in touch with the folks who are paying you on time and investigating reports of missed checks. I worked for ICandy/Canvas Corp at Prudential Center in NJ for 6 months and went on the trip to Las Vegas for a Nascar event and though I have been paid for morte than half of my work, I have not been paid for the rest of it, including the very first day I worked for them. I stopped working there in May and was told I would get all the money due me in a matter of weeks. It has been half a year now and I have not seen a single check. I have been at the same address and phone number all that time and have sent e-mails with my address and phone number repeated times, along with a reckoning of what I was due. I was one of the hardest workers, was repeatedly told I was one of the top guys, and would put up "cotton candy numbers" with drinks and popcorn. MsKye, RobYankeeFan, k8Ty87, BarreG, DustinMan1980, kermit44, please tell me who you worked for and who to contact to resolve the issue of my missing pay.
Canvas Corp ... does resolve their issues, maybe not in your time frame but they also investigate to see if a check was sent, and in many cases people move so do not receive their check in a timely manner or even get it as it is sent back, also many people in this business do not have a phone number or change them when the next bill collector gets it ... so I say the problem may be with you not them. Another thing is when people are hired they only hear what they want to hear not all the facts.
Really? Like where did you get your facts from dude/miss, whatever? I work from them in NYC right now, and never heard anything of it. And the friends I made while working for them like what they're doing. The canvas corporation is a good company, shame on all you people who bash them because you have nothing else better to do then complain. try getting a "real" job and see what its like...
To the Reviewer:
You probably don't know what "hard work" is. And, where did you "hear" your information? There is nothing wrong with their business practices, I have been with them for a year, and I have always been paid.
How could anyone "not" pay their employees. You clearly have some other more malicious agenda. There is nothing wrong with the Canvas Corporation whatsoever, they were completely honest with me the whole time I worked with the :)
I have also worked for the Canvas Corporation in New York. My checks were NEVER late, and I ALWAYS got paid on time. I am also a good worker, and I worked under a manager and she noticed I worked hard...
I have worked for Canvas Corporation both in LA and Seattle. Occasionally my check was late, but it was always there and when I had one disputer payroll took care of it right away. I have heard of people missing paychecks but then it always gets resolved.
