I first received a call from someone I thought was Better Tax Relief in January of 2026. I paid an initial fee of 500.00 dollars. I assumed that when I paid 500.00 that I was paying the money to pre-qualify for eligibility for Better Tax Relief Services. That is not what happened. Shortly after, I received a call from someone from Better Tax Relief who I believe was Vince Ruiz, who, from my perception, indicated that he could help me to receive help from Better Tax Relief. I was told that the cost was 6,439.46 for the service. I informed the agent that I could not afford to pay that fee. I was and am currently retired, and my only income is Social Security and a small pension payment benefit. He immediately said that he could set me up on a payment plan. It was my perception that he was setting me up for a payment plan with Better Tax Relief. This is not what he did. He secured a loan for 6, 439. 46, which was the cost of the service. If I really understood that he was applying for a loan on my behalf, I do not believe that I would have agreed. I worked really hard to get my debt down. Being retired, I cannot afford any more major debt with interest payments. I am paying 245.85 a month. Of course, because it is a loan, which I understand now is not a payment plan with Better Tax Relief as I originally believed, I am paying interest payments. It is a 36-month loan. I thought in the beginning that it was a payment plan with Better Tax Relief until after I received the loan details from United Consumer Financial Services (UCFS) on January 27, 2026. I accepted the terms, but again I did not believe at the time that it was a loan with interest payments, but a payment plan with Better Tax Relief. After paying 500.00 initially, I made an assumption that they could help me after answering pre-screened questions regarding my situation. As it turned out, they were not able to help me. Not only did they not help me with the IRS, but I also remain stuck with a $ 7,621.00 tax debt as well as monthly payments to UCFS. This should have been a red flag not to move forward with them, but I was desperate for help. I am a retired person living on Social Security only and a small pension. At the very least, after paying a 500.00 initial payment, I do not quite understand why my eligibility could not be determined for Better Tax Relief Services before taking on a loan that I cannot afford, along with a large tax debt. I ended up paying 6,439.46 dollars for virtually no help, or at least help that did me any good. Better Tax Relief is benefiting from this transaction, but I am not benefiting at all. The only thing that I received from this deal is a re-assessment of my 2021 taxes, which I re-submitted for before purchasing services with Better Tax Relief and having my 2025 taxes done. I am not sure why I am paying 6,439.46 dollars just for that. In the end, what did I really end up with? I paid 6,439.46 to have my taxes done and increase my debt-to-income ratio on Social Security and a small pension income.

Claimed loss: I received no help to reduce my tax debt. The service offered to me was done at a high cost. I could have paid less and still have the same out outcome. I ended up only increasing my debt-to-income ratio.

Desired outcome: To at least reduce some of the funds being paid to United Consumer Financial Services for the limited services received by Better Tax Relief
