I was admitted to hospital on July 21st with chest discomfort and trouble breathing. Upon being discharged, I was told I had to contact the doctors for follow-up apts with pulmonologist and primary care physician. In the past the hospital called and made all those appointments for you so you could get in asap. I asked about this in the hospital and they said they no longer did that and I had to do it. Well I started calling on the Monday morning after I was released from the hospital and was not allowed to talk to the Dr office but with an answering service that would do that for the dr office. The answering service said that doctor had no appointments available until a month and a half later. Hospitals require that the patient to get in to see whomever they referred the patient to within 14 days after their release from the hospital.
A month and a half is a far cry from 14 days. So I had to drive to the doctors office myself and ask for an appointment that they gave an appointment within a week of that day. These answering services is a disgrace to be allowed to make appointments for follow-ups and is not good practice for hospitals to allow.
Claimed loss: Mental anguish in trying to schedule appointments myself and listening to someone working from home that does not care if you see a doctor or not
Desired outcome: Get rid of the answering service and go back to what works, hospitals making the follow up appointments themselves.
