Ameriserve Repiping

My mom recently passed away at the age of 97. She was a retired school teacher on a fixed income, living in a mobile home.

I am getting her mobile home ready to sell, and the water heater tank failed. I searched through her old files to determine if it was still under warranty.

As luck would have it, it was a few months past it's 6 year warranty period. But the invoice I found surprised me, because Ameriserve had sold her an "extra" $5,400 in plumbing work. They said they would replace all of her galvanized pipe with copper pipe. As part of that work, they would also install a pressure regulator, which they charged her for.

Continuing to review her invoices, I found that all of the galvanized pipe had been replaced with copper 10 years prior. I also checked the manufactured date of the pressure regulator in place. It was also dated 10 years prior to the work date by Ameriserve.

I wish I had known about this at the time. The DA would have gone after Ameriserve for fraud and elder abuse.

You may have heard there radio ad with Bill Handel on KFI. Do not use this company! The work was completed by a crew of 4 men. Only one of them spoke English and seemed to know what he was doing. I was stuck watching all of them the best I could. I caught one of the workers cutting the pipe and fitting it without "deburring" the edge where pipe was just cut! If you do not know about plumbing, this is a very basic requirement which if not done will cause problems later on. All of the solder work around joints was inferior. Well, I must not have caught all there mistakes because within 2 years I had so many leaks I had to have the job redone by professionals. The workmanship was generally sloppy.
