At 8:10PM, 17/11/2016, at the Woolworths in Hurstville Westfield shopping centre, I bought bread that was on half price but the cashier Steven wanted to charge me the full price. I told him it was half price and that he could check the tag but he said it was not useful.
So I took a photo of the price tag and showed it to him but he said he didn't know which bread I took. I told him I understood English and understood that it said "all unpackaged single serve bakery products reduced to half price". He still refused rudely to give me the half price.
So I took the matter to the supervisor Stephanie and showed her the photo. She said she can give only me a discount and if I wanted to buy it, I should just pay now. She behaved very unprofessionally. I said to her I'm not a bargainer and didn't need her personal permission for the discount. Since the price tag displayed the discount, it should be provided to all customers, not just me. I requested to see the store manager to which she refused.
I have been a loyal customer of Woolworths for more than 20 years and before I have heard of similar stories of rude or racist staff members from my Chinese friends. For example one cashier only checked my friend's bag despite not checking anyone else's in the same queue. I did not believe that there would be cashiers like this. However today after my bad experience, I will no longer be happy to shop at Woolworths as I do not like to be disrespected or treated unfairly because of my race.
I am looking forward to an explanation and apology from the staff.
