My concern is the NOISE
My concern is the NOISE. When the A/C is on, we have to turn up the TV volume. When it stops, we have to turn it back down. The American Standard Silver 3 ton system was installed on December 3. I don't know if the noise can be reduced and I don't want to deal with this for the life of the A/C. The noise is louder than with the old system. If something can be done at a reasonable cost, I would give them 5 stars and be grateful! This is a review, not a complaint. I'm writing this to help others shopping for A/C and for Weather Engineers to consider. The new system was installed professionally and looks cleaner than other contractors' work. I'm very happy with it. I did a lot of research when our old system failed and chose a brand and model that seemed best. However, this was my first central A/C purchase, so I had no experience. Weather Engineers convinced me that a heat pump wasn't necessary in Florida, and I think they gave me good advice. But I also thought a two-speed system would be better. Here's the thing: Two-speed systems mostly refer to the outside compressor, not the air handler. Expensive systems often have variable speed air handlers, but I wasn't willing to spend that much. I couldn't find information about the indoor noise level. I wish they included indoor decibel information, like dishwashers! In the end, I chose American Standard over Carrier because their website says they're made in America. Now, I wish I had chosen Carrier instead. They had a single-speed Performance 16 model that would have cost about the same. Or, if I wanted a two-speed model, both Carrier and American Standard had options for $1,500-$2,000 more. Since I told Weather Engineers I planned to stay in the house for a long time, they could have done a better job of selling me the right system from the start. By the way, I replaced the air return grill and the living room register with egg crate designs that allow better airflow and it did reduce the noise a bit.
