Waste pick up
I sold my business so I called December 26th to cancel service because the new owner is going with another trash company. He tried to use my current trash company but they would not return his calls. I have called 5 times and have been told my rep Damien would call me to cancel the service. I have yet to get a phone call. I called again on Wednesday and Thursday and was told Damien was out that week but they will escalate it to a supervisor. I have not received a call back as of today. I called Friday to make it their last pick up because the new owner has canisters being delivered. I called again today and was told someone will reach out to me and as of 12:45 pm no one has called me. This is very unprofessional and I should not have to wait 6 days to receive a phone call, to me this seems to be a stall tactic in order to charge me for more service days. I need a resolution today!

Despite having a valid account, the customer had to contact them four times to have their trash picked up because they just don't show up. When my five-year contract with Waste Connections (WC) was about to come to an end, I decided to explore other options and see if I could get a better rate for my waste management. As expected, I found many other companies that offered rates cheaper than WC. However, I decided to reach out to WC sales person, Allan Valenzuela, with the hopes that he could come close to the quotes I had received from other companies. To my surprise, Allan quoted me a similar low price over email.
Fast forward to the start of my new contract with WC, and I was extremely disappointed to see that the bills I received were significantly higher than the quote provided by Allan. I was being charged late fees, and when I reached out to customer service to inquire about the sudden price increase, I was informed that since I hadn't signed a contract, the monthly rate was higher. I felt frustrated and helpless, as I had paid what I was quoted and had no idea that there was a possibility of the rate increasing just because I hadn't signed a contract.
Feeling like I had no other option, I was forced to pay the new, higher rate, as my tenants needed a place to put their trash. It felt very much like extortion, and left me with an extremely negative impression of WC. While I understand that businesses need to make a profit, it's essential that they are transparent about their pricing and don't leave their customers feeling deceived and taken advantage of.

However, from our latest bill covering Nov 2021-Jan 2022, we were surprised to see a staggering increase of almost 35% to $137.56.
To put this into perspective, a competitor that we had considered does not have yearly price increases like this. We had also just signed up for a $90.00 fee that was supposed to include all taxes and fees per quarter, which made this sudden hike in price feel all the more unsettling.
What's more, we've had multiple instances where our trash was not picked up by Waste Connections. In those instances, we had made requests on their app to address the issue, but unfortunately, our account does not reflect those requests. This only compounded our frustration with the service.
It is especially frustrating, then, to learn as we have recently attempted to cancel our service, that a $25.00 cancellation fee is being charged - without ever having been notified of such a fee at sign up or having a contract with WCI. This adds insult to injury and leaves a poor impression of the quality of customer service that this company offers.

On one occasion, I was asked to remove a piece of wood from the dumpster, which is apparently not allowed. Additionally, the driver did not even bother to wait for me to do so, which was very frustrating. It makes me wonder if the driver is just being lazy, especially considering that I used to give them $50 as a Christmas bonus, which I no longer do. As a result, there was no service provided on that particular day, as my bin was deemed “too full" and had a piece of 2X4 in it.
Given my negative experience, I would highly recommend forming a community garbage service with members, instead of dealing with Waste Connections as customers. Unfortunately, when I enquired about alternatives, I was informed that Waste Connections holds the sole garbage contract for our area and would prosecute anyone hauling garbage for hire. This certainly was not the outcome I was hoping for since it does not promote free enterprise. Overall, I would advise those considering this company to think twice and explore other options.

That said, my real issue with Waste Connections began in January 2022, when I decided to order an additional trash can for my residence. I tried to place my order online, sent numerous emails, and even had conversations with the customer service representatives. Sadly, even after waiting for over five months, I am yet to receive the can I requested.
While the company did start charging me for the additional trash can, their promise to deliver seems to have fallen on deaf ears. The customer care representatives and distribution centers have thus far proven to be unreliable and unhelpful in resolving the issue. I can only hope that management takes charge of the situation and brings the much-needed control to their operations.
It's quite disappointing to see such ineptitude and lack of accountability for a company whose services are meant to make our lives easier. As a concerned customer, I do hope that they'll improve their services and customer experience going forward.
